Description
We are Nimea (40 yo), Paolo (42 yo) and Oceano (one and something yo). We are Italians moved to Portugal since 2019. We estabilished our own life here. We are remote workers (Nimea is a graphic designer and Paolo is a sales manager) and we moved to our own place in April 2021 and we need to take care of our 6.5 hectars that has been left on his own for a while.
Our place is located in Algarve, the southernmost region of Portugal, close to the city of Aljezur and the beaches of Arrifana, Amoreira and Monteclerigo.
We would like to run our own rural project, based on Permaculture logics. To be there we have to prepare the place, so make the necessary space to start gardens, proper accomodations for more workers.
We love to live in the nature and enjoy what the area offers, mostly walking and surfing. The place is well know for both activities.
With us you will find animals too, 2 small dogs and several cats, all belonging to the family and with access to the whole property as it is theirs! :-)Types of help and learning opportunities

You can experience to live in full nature, the space is 65000 sqm and you can enjoy all of it;
Plenty of trails around the area, Rota Vicentina is not far, we can show you the paths we already know and explore together the new ones;
With a car you can reach the beaches for surfing, by bike you can reach a couple of beaches too to enjoy the beach-life.
You can enjoy both the Portuguese typical life style of the surrounding mixed with our Italian culture;
We can have a good chatting together;
We share with pleasure our knowledge about permaculture and you can experience part of it; longer you stay with us, more you can see about it because every step of the project can last months;
Remember that plant plants is just the smallest part of a permaculture project, most of the job is observing, preparing the areas and dig! Don't be shy to ask what is the purpose of the tasks if seems to you that are not connected to permaculture.Help
We just start a big area with the agroforestry/synergistic gardening tecnique, to recover a very exploited and sandy ground. We have in plan to plant more than 400 trees (we already planted some of them) respecting the ecological succession and the species already present in the area.
In addition we would like to arrange one of our pinewoods to welcome some tourists and courses/workshop/retreets, with some light wood building to make it more confortable. -This part is not related to volunteers job, is just to let you know our vision-
For this year we need mostly help for:
- construction works:
• finishes of the wood building for volunteers (external wall, doors...)
• put the gravel around the house to prevent the fire
• maintenance of the paths
• build a woodshed
• install a playground for the kids
- agricolture and outcome from the land:
• taking care of the agroforest
• taking care of the trees that were already there
• maintenance and enlargement of the watering system
• fruits picking
• making jams and label the jars
• collecting aromatic plants
• making products from the aromatic like smudges, infuses, scented sachets...
• collecting vegetables, save the seeds
• come with us at the market
- when friends come to visit us and share the space with the volunteers:
• cleaning the common kitchen every day
• cleaning the common bathroom every day
• tidy the common outside area every day
- general maintenance:
• clean the land from the fallen trees
• cut the wood and put it in place in the wood pile
• trim the grass
• clean the land from the brambles
• clean the paths from the weeds
• make chips from the small branches for the dry toilets and to mulch the agroforest and the trees.
• ecc...
We ask to help 4 hours per day (start around 8.00 in the morning) with a coffee break in the middle, from monday to friday.
Just to be honest, the work is hard 💪🏼, but we hope to pay back with a beautiful experience and new knowledge for everybody.
