    Description

We're building a hostel. From the dirt up.
We found a lovely spot in a little rural community, just 2km from the waves at Sunzal and the nightlife in El Tunco, but far enough away that you can actually hear yourself think and see an authentic side of El Salvador.
The setup for now is a handful of 5m diameter teepees with comfortable beds. Last year, we built the main HQ—it’s got a full kitchen, fiber optic wifi, and plenty of space to chill. Since then, we built a bodega to get our materials and laundry room sorted. Right now we're building a patio area to give people more of an outdoor place to hangout.
Honestly, a lot of it is still a work in progress. But we know what we're aiming for: a laid-back spot for backpackers to land, recharge, and meet some genuine people. We're big on good food, good health, and good energy, and that's the vibe we're building. We've been documenting everything on YouTube so you can check out how far we've come so far.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

The purpose of this project is not the final design (we don't even have one). The main goal is to learn through doing. Everyday we're solving new problems and refining our skills.

As a Workawayer here, you'll be part of a small international crew working alongside locals and long-term travelers.

    skills you can learn/refine:
landscaping, construction, carpentry, gardening, cooking, BJJ,, yoga, breathwork, bitcoin, spanish/english exchange, DJing

You’ll leave with new friends, hands-on skills, a deeper connection to El Salvador, and (hopefully) a fresh sense of purpose.

The project is in the early construction phase of a new hostel. The work required is varied and will change as the project progresses.

Depending on current needs and the individual's skills, responsibilities may include the following:
Construction: Assisting with bamboo construction, framing, cabinet installation, and building small structures.
Landscaping: Preparing garden beds, planting, watering, and managing compost.
Finishing Work: Contributing to projects such as painting murals, creating signs, building furniture, and other decorative tasks.
Communal Support: Assisting with meal preparation and maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and shared areas.
General Duties: Organizing materials, site cleanup, and providing general assistance where required.
    Work Environment:
Tasks are typically completed in a small team setting. There will be opportunities for skill-sharing among participants.
We're looking for someone that has experience with basic manual labor or demonstrates a capacity to learn.
Is able to work cooperatively within a small group.
Is adaptable to changing tasks and project priorities.

The expected time commitment is 4–5 hours per day, 5 days per week. Weekends are off-duty.

This host offers a language exchange
🗣Language Exchange & Community Integration We’re actively integrating into the local community here, and language exchange is a big part of that. Whether you’re looking to improve your Spanish or help others with their English, there are plenty of opportunities to practice every day. We work closely with our Salvadoran neighbors, hire local help when possible, and support nearby businesses. Volunteers often join us for errands in town, community events, or casual chats with locals who stop by. It's a great environment for immersive, real-life language learning. Most people are friendly and patient if you’re still learning. We’d love to host Spanish speakers looking to improve their English or English speakers wanting to practice their Spanish. We believe language is one of the best ways to build deeper connections which is a huge part of our mission

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We sleep in spacious cotton teepees safe from the wind and rain, although they get very hot past 8am. They have proper beds and mattresses, clean bedding, and mosquito protection. It’s basic but comfortable. There’s also access to a shared bathroom, a shower, and a covered kitchen/lounge area with electricity and WiFi.

Expect fresh air, great views, and the sounds of nature and agriculture (roosters, cattle, ducks, dogs).

We offer breakfast and our fully equipped kitchen is at your disposal, so you can whip up your favorite meals whenever you want.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

On your days off, there’s plenty to explore nearby. We’re just a 25-minute walk from El Tunco — a popular surf town with great waves, bars, cafes, and live music. You can also explore waterfalls, local markets, natural hot springs, or head out on coastal hikes. We’re happy to share tips or help you plan mini-adventures.

As for life at the hostel, we try to live simply and mindfully, focusing on community, creativity, and respect for the space. A few things to note:

We keep communal areas clean and tidy. Everyone chips in

    Quiet hours after 10pm

We try to live sustainably — reusing, recycling, and minimizing waste

Most importantly, we value good vibes, teamwork, and open-mindedness. If you're easygoing, curious, and happy to get your hands dirty, you’ll fit right in.
