Description
Hi, I'm Mick. I'm at the end of the second season of this permaculture and send sufficiency project. About three hectares of meadow and orchard and a couple of acres of forest glades. Aiming for self sufficiency for about 5 people to start with, hoping for more ultimately, and involve cooperative efforts from the local and international community. Maybe it could become a space for teaching and learning. There is extra land for experimental permaculture agriculture projects too. DIY renewable electricity is also part of the plan.
I'm looking for bright people with initiative who can thrive working hard to create something of value.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Slovenia has a strong DIY culture and exceptionally green organic approach to agriculture and conservation. Locally here, most people I know are highly proactive and generous with sharing knowledge, loving life, good fun. Close to Italy, Austria and Croatia. Ljubljana has a great international community too.
Travelers will primarily learn permaculture techniques and have the opportunity to work on exploring and developing new techniques. Similar for the small farm scale renewable energy work. Also a fair bit of landscaping needs doing.
The location is very special and beautiful, views over the Karawanken mountain range and Ljubljana basin, Polhograjski Dolomiti, and as far as Triglav in the Julian Alps. Friendly locals. Many people from Ljubljana and the surrounding area hike up to the Sv. Jakob church on the hill by the house.Help
There is a long list of things to get started for this project. The idea is to enjoy the beautiful space and do some gratifying work. Still early days so allot of setting up the basics as well as room for experimentation.
Mushroom beds and logs inoculation. Done 100 logs, some starting to prodece. Ready to do another 50.

What else ...
Peaceful spot, simply perfect for relaxing away from the busy bustle. There is allot of action too if you want it. Lots of stunning hikes and bike rides in the area. Ljubljana 30-40 minutes by bicycle. About 80 minutes to return up the hill though. Or a 25 minute drive. Hitch hiking is common and easy here.
10 minutes walk through the forest to 3 gostilnas (restaurant/bistro) in the neighbouring village of Topol, all with excellent food. Nice swimming spots in the Sora river at nearby Medvode.A little more information

The work was pretty varied which we liked; we got to do quite a bit of project work which was of particular interest to us. The project is in its early stages so was very much a learning experience for everyone involved - learning about the land and developing infrastructure… read more
