Description
🌿 Welcome to Tuscany – Spring & Summer 2026 🌞
Hi Workawayers – I’m Dominic, and this is Juno, my four-legged partner in crime 🐕. We live in my restored family home in Tuscany, just outside Lucca, surrounded by olive groves, woodland, gardens, and (in the summer) a swimming pool.
It’s a peaceful, inspiring place – a bit of an oasis – and over the past few years I’ve been lucky to host some fantastic people, many of whom have become great friends. A wonderful couple called Massimo and Maria help me out and are here nearly every day - they speak no English so if improving your Italian is a goal then that is a great starting point - but don’t worry communicating they are used to workawayers and friends that don’t speak any Italian :-)
Spring is here, summer is ahead, and I’m now looking for some fabulous 2026 Workawayers to come and be part of it.
I like to keep things relaxed and flexible – I’m looking for people who can genuinely help with specific things, so it would really help if you’re clear about where you can support.
The main focus over the coming months is outside . There is an ongoing battle with bamboo, and we need to dig a trench and install an underground barrier to stop it spreading. If you’re happy digging, getting dirty – then this could be for you. Alongside that, there is plenty of gardening if you enjoy the spring preparations for that and we are getting the outside ready for the summer.
Someone organised who is happy sorting everything from small nuts and bolts to cupboards, crates, and drawers would be amazing. Please tell me what experiences and skills you have. It's important that Massimo understands what you are comfortable doing but more importantly what machinery you know how to use - safety is a priority.
Inside the house, the work is more occasional but can include organising an office, sorting storage areas, or general house organisation.
That said, I’m always open to something different. If you don’t fit neatly into the above, tell me your “superpower”. Whether it’s creative skills, music, singing, fitness, yoga, cooking, digital work, or something completely unexpected – I’m open to ideas, and we might find something interesting to collaborate on together.
These days I’m also particularly interested in welcoming remote workers who want a calm, beautiful base with good Wi-Fi, fresh air, and a bit of company alongside their work.
The house is about 15 minutes from Lucca (20–30 minutes by bus), with easy train links to Florence, Pisa, Siena, and the coast. The local village has everything you need – a supermarket, pharmacy, and bar – while Lucca itself is lively all year round with festivals, language schools, and a great atmosphere.
In return, for your help - you’ll have your own comfortable room, access to the kitchen (and often shared meals), Wi-Fi, use of the pool when it’s open, a small gym, and beautiful surroundings. Many meals are prepared for by Maria and we eat together. There’s also the chance to practise Italian if you can pin Massimo and Maria down for a chat – the wonderful Italian couple who help keep things running here.
A little about me – I’ve worked internationally across a range of industries, but life here is a bit more balanced, combining work, projects, and enjoying Tuscany. It’s worth mentioning that I am gay – I say this simply so people know upfront, as it can matter depending on background. The most important thing for me is that people are open-minded, respectful, and comfortable in themselves and with others.
From other workawayers - the feedback is that this is seen as a comfortable experience and I provide a lot from all your food, drink and even outings sometimes. All I ask in return is that people staying are easy-going and sociable, enjoy being part of things rather than disappearing into their rooms all the time, and who are happy to share meals, stories, walks, or a glass of wine.
Tell me what you can bring to the party – whether that’s practical skills, creativity, or just good humour – and let’s see if Tuscany is calling you. 🌿

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Tuscany is one of the most beautiful areas and sitting near Lucca a beautiful completely walled town - once voted one of the best places to live in the world - will give any traverller a fabulous start on Tuscany. Near Florence, Siena, San Gimigano and Pisa there is an endless supply of options. Or go to the language schools in Lucca.

Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.

Help
There is so much to do - clearing the woods, replanting in the garden, painting an outhouse, preparing a field, sorting inside, filing, reorganising office, and more. Just tell me what you can do and we can see if they’re something relevant. My goal is to provide a fair exchange, enjoy a break or explore Tuscany with free board in exchange for help and conversation.

We spent almost three weeks with Dominic and helped him with all kinds of tasks, in good weather in the garden (digging, cleaning, mowing, painting etc.) and in bad weather in the house (cleaning, sorting). The work was a lot of fun, we could divide it up as it suited, as long as everything was done at the end of the… read more

During his time here he was involved in a range of different projects - clearing bamboos and overgrowth, making cement, filling in ditches and generally helping around the property. Nothing phased him and he was keen to get stuck in regardless of the… read more
