Description
Kia ora (hello)! We’re Louis and Serena, an outgoing, fun-loving, and motivated couple from Aotearoa (New Zealand). We're currently planning our next travel episode and are excited about meeting new people and getting involved in meaningful projects along the way.
Louis is a hiking guide and conservationist with an educational background in sociology and political science. He loves the outdoors and New Zealand's conservation ethos, and relishes the opportunity to share his experiences with people. He’s hands-on and easy-going, and enjoys getting stuck into new challenges. He's quick to laugh and is equally happy sharing stories around a table or chilling out with a book.
Serena is dynamic, vivacious, and people-focused. She completed a double degree in Law and Arts (Sociology & Music) in 2020 and has since worked in human rights and complaint resolution. From volunteering teaching English in Nepal to weeding entire forests and painting houses in Australia, Serena is passionate about making life better for others and brings heaps of energy to whatever she’s doing. She’s as at home hiking in the hills as she is performing on stage and has recently been in two operas.
Together, we’re upbeat, respectful, well travelled and have plenty of experience volunteering together. We work well as a team, learn fast, and love pitching in wherever we’re needed. We’d love to be considered for any Workaway where we can help out, learn new skills, and be part of a local community.

More details about your skills
I possess a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, International Relations and Political Science achieving a spot on the deans list for Academic excellence. During this I developed excellent analytical skills and the ability to effectively process and communicate complex information.
I have 3 years experience working in practical conservation, predominantly pest animal / plant management. As a result of this I am outdoor first aid trained and comfortable working alone in rugged terrain with a GPS and have great navigational skills.
I have also worked in many kitchens ranging from big commercial restaurants to woodfired pizza food carts. This has taught me knife skills, understanding of the processes around preparing and cooking food, and strong communication skills. Additionally, I have a plethora of experience in practical work, including lawnmowing, gardening, landscaping, grape picking, nature walk guiding, and cleaning.
Finally, I have previously completed a couple of WWOOFing placements were I learnt about regenerative agriculture and permaculture practices.
As a side note I am also a keen (35mm) photographer.
