  • Description

    Description

We have an 85 acre mountain rainforest landscape in the hinterland behind Byron Bay and near the town of Mullumbimby.

It is a beautiful, ancient rainforest valley with fresh water creeks, swimming holes, waterfalls, rainforest and mountain plateaus.

We are a certified organic permaculture farm and grow various foods, herbal medicines and useful plants mostly for our own personal use rather than commercially. We have goats, sheep, chickens and cows but none of them are farmed or used for commercial or food and all animals are loved and part of our systems to eat down grass.

We have some yurts, domes, cabins and a few houses across the farm and a small handful of residents living here and paying guests whom enjoy short holidays and experiences.

Accommodation for workaway travellers is offered in a private, self contained space which is in either a self-contained, private cabin or dome depending on availability. They both have their own bathrooms and kitchens and beautiful views across the rainforest the valley with wifi internet access.

Help often varied and mixed each day and we ask for 4 to 4 and half hours each day with flexible times and no early starts unless someone wants to specifically.

The work/help is often a mix of things however at the moment, we the most important help is:-

Some daily help with housework, light cleaning, laundry, cooking, preserving food.

The rest of the time may be a mix of

Organic gardening - watering and planting vegetables, weeding, mulching, fertilising and seeding in the nursery.

Animal Care - chickens, sheep, goats, horse, cows - feeding etc.

    Cutting grass - mowing

Plant / Tree Care - feeding, pruning, planting and caring for fruit trees

Various Jobs - painting, sorting, moving,

Some jobs are done alone and some others with any other people working here.

However explanations, demonstrations and group sessions can allow opportunities for learning information and skills related to organic gardening / farming, permaculture, herbal medicine and sustainable living.

Good healthy food is supplied to suit your diet and preferences but you would need to be able to cook for yourself and make your own meals with food supplied.

Accommodation is in a nice self-contained guest space when available.
This may sometimes only be an option for 3-4 days, other times 1 week and sometimes longer or extended stays beyond one week when work and accommodation is available.

We have movies, books, magazines and internet access and the farm itself has beautiful mountain valley views, rainforest, animals and nearby are fresh water swimming holes which are great in summer, walks/hikes and other things to do.

Mullumbimby is great cosmopolitan, diverse rural town (7kms away) with people from around the world and lots going on with many activities, events, cafes and the beaches of Brunswick Heads nearby.

Byron Bay has even more going on 25 minutes away. HiItching is common and safe around here and there are often lifts available with residents going to town and back. Creeks and swimming are all close by in walking distance.

People willing to listen, help and work here can be rewarded with a beautiful place to stay in, nice food, meeting people and animals, learning skills, gaining knowledge, enjoying activities and making connections.
