Jacob's strength was a great help for wood axing, for an olive harvest and for some landscaping jobs involving moving rocks and digging earth. The weather (wet and extremely windy) meant that it wasn't really until his last day here that I could witness his stamina, and we achieved a good chunk of work together. I felt at ease in our communication and enjoyed it when he made his highly informed contributions during our non-work related conversations. His skill in playing the guitar provided a lovely and varied background to our time inside and he respected my requests around music (no heavy metal please!) and house guidelines.

Maike and Daniel are such lovely guests to have in the home. Clean and tidy, happy to fit into the household routine, friendly and easy going. They worked hard in my overgrown gardens and pathways, and sanded and painted a fence for me, all jobs I was glad to have done and which relieved me of some of the pressure of being on a lifestyle block without helpers. They were willing and generous with their time, putting up with my free ranging nosey chickens and being kind and loving to the other member of the household.... the dog! It was easy to have them stay. I'm glad the weather was reasonably OK so they could enjoy the beauty of South Taranaki and enjoy the holiday side of their travels. I'd welcome them back any time and recommend Maike and Daniel to other hosts as they enjoy this time to explore this side of the world.

Jill was my first Workaway host, and she definitely set the bar high 😉 I spent two weeks with her, and the time went by so fast. The place is beautiful, and you feel very safe there, Jill has done a really great job!! Moreover, spending time with her was very enjoyable. She loves telling stories and has so many to share!! The best moments with her were in the evenings when we could talk for hours. So go for it, guys, it’s absolutely worth it! Ps: She has a lovely dog

Yuho and Shota were wonderful hosts, and it was amazing getting to know them, their playful daughter Ai, and Preethi and her adorable cat Chaya over my three week stay! I had a lot of fun spending time with other volunteers and participating in a lot of cultural activities in Kimino. Being a more rural community, it was great to see how involved Shota, Yuho and Preethi are in preserving and reviving the local culture, and how welcoming they were to us by sharing it. They included us in a lot of activities like New Years celebration, mochi and miso making, etc. Life was very peaceful and steady, and being from the city, it was a great experience living in the countryside for the first time. I can’t wait to come back!

I had such a beautiful experience working with Danny. From the very beginning, he made me feel welcome and appreciated. His passion for eco-living and creating a food forest around his family farm is truly inspiring. You can really feel that this is not just a project for him, but a way of life. He shares his knowledge openly and creates a space where learning feels natural and enjoyable. The work never felt like “just work” it felt meaningful, peaceful, and connected to something bigger. I especially appreciated the balance between working together and having space to enjoy the surroundings and good conversations. If you are curious about sustainable living, gardening, or simply want to be part of a positive and creative environment, I highly recommend staying with him. Thank you for the experience, the lessons, and the coconut moments at the farm 🌿🥥

I've been volunteering in Alexandra's place for five weeks. The food was super healthy and tasty. The ingredients are mostly organic. We ate our meals together and shared experiences. Alexandra is a very smart person with a big soul so you can be sure that you will learn and absorb good values and energy. The work is not hard, and very flexible. Since I'm not a great cook, I've been working around the garden, cleaning the house, grocery shopping, cleaning and walking the dog. The house is surrounded by beautiful fields and very close to a very nice town, Estavayer , so you won't be bored. Alexandra is a kind, honest, and generous host. She let us use the bikes, went with us to the lake, and even borrowed me some warm clothes 'cause I was lack in. Moreover, she let me participate in a healing session, it was a big pleasure. I'm genuinely grateful for my time with Alexandra, Natalina, and Hanna ( the other workaway). I was sad to leave but happy to have new friends.

Janine is a unique character, and I felt very comfortable having her in my house around me. She has a strong personality, a great sense of humor, and is open and honest in conversation. It was a new experience for me to have someone my own age to share all our life experiences with. I learned a lot from Janine, including how to deal with all kinds of situations. Janine did an excellent job working with the horses. Even at her age, she learns very quickly. She is a very good cook and also does a wonderful job around the house. She is a better housekeeper than I am. I can wholeheartedly recommend Janine. Thank you very much, Janine, I got a new friend.

It was great to have Annie here! She was always willing to get on with tasks and able to ask for clarity on instructions, if she needed. Annie took the initiative with the housework, which was fantastic! Her jolly temperament, her maturity and her willingness to share conversation while also observing the importance of quiet time, made her very easy to co-habit with.

This was my first experience with Workaway, and I can honestly say I couldn’t have asked for anything better. I was looking for an opportunity connected to animal welfare and care, especially with cats, which I have always loved deeply. After some searching, I found Greg and Amy, and with them I lived one of the most intense experiences of my life. I say “intense” because working in this kind of environment isn’t always easy or pleasant, especially when dealing with animals rescued from the streets, from abusive situations, or with serious health issues. But I can guarantee that the gratitude shown by our feline friends makes every effort worthwhile. Every extra hour you choose to give can truly make a difference in this mission. Many cats require special care and frequent attention, while others simply need some cuddles and companionship. Occasionally, there are also a few extra puppies ❤️ Greg and Amy are two amazing people and they really need support, as they currently manage everything on their own: over 60+ cats at the shelter, rescue missions around the city almost every day, social media pages, and much more. Every day there is a lot of work to keep the shelter running smoothly: general cleaning, organizing spaces, preparing cages for new arrivals, and more. Then there are adoption days (which are really fun!), usually every weekend, when the kittens are brought out to find them a new home. You’ll end up being “kitten salespeople” 😄 and it’s very important to help especially the youngest ones find families. Every adoption creates space to welcome new cats in need, and since the shelter has limited space, keeping everything well organized is essential for the animals’ well-being. Thanks to Greg and Amy, I also had the chance to meet many locals and enjoy a wonderful cultural and social exchange in the beautiful city of Kuching. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who truly loves cats and feels emotionally ready to handle situations that are not always easy. I originally planned to stay only two weeks, but I became deeply connected to their mission and decided to extend my volunteering to one month. I could talk much longer about my experience, but I’ll stop here for now. Feel free to contact me privately if you have any specific questions. Once again, thank you to the association and all the volunteers. A big hug, see you soon. Thank you again and keep up the good fight!

My stay in Stokkseyri with Guðni was one of my best life experiences. I loved the quietness of the town and the amazing views (I was during the beautiful midnight sunset). I really enjoyed cycling and walking around. Many times, we went to Reykjavik and Selfoss to run errands, I was so happy to be with him. He was so kind and generous; we got along very well and talked a lot, exchanged experiences, dishes and laughs. He took me to some tourist areas like Thingvellir National Park and waited for me when I went on a whale-watching tour in Reykjavik. Unfortunately, I didn’t spend much time with his family, but I met his son, brother, and grandchildren, and all of them are very nice. I just want to say thank you for the lovely and unforgettable time I had in one of my favorite countries. Without a doubt, I would do it again.

Jacob is a really lovely person and a great workawayer. He arrived and fitted right in from the start and always happy about the tasks given to him, whether in his own or in a group. He stood out as a surprisingly good carpenter 🪚. Kitting out out greenhouse with shelves a table and a raised bed. I need help just with the yearly fruit tree pruning. He cooked up some great meals and we're sad to see him go. A thoughtful proactive and caring volunteer overall.

I stayed for 1,5 months. It was such an intense and amazing time. But first things first: The dogs are incredible. It's 100 different furry personalities and it's incredible how Kishor and Jessica know each of them so well and care about them with passion. They try to find the best social group/cage, place, living situation for each of them. Kishor is a crazy talented craftsperson; he build almost all of the shelter and volunteer accommodation himself, it is super beautiful and well done. The nature also is insanely pretty, the forest, river and mountains are right there and you have so many great hiking opportunities, also with the doggies! Now I'll mention some aspects that at times were challenging for me: The communication seemed very indirect and avoidant to me. From my perspective, I did not receive feedback about my work, but then, towards the end of my stay and also part of the reason why I left earlier then planned, there was an unpleasant situation where I felt very suddenly very attacked by the way they communicated and as if they projected some of their stress and anger on me. Therefore, communication is an aspect about this Workaway I find important to be improved. I nevertheless believe Kishor and Jessica are great people and the place is 100% worth going. I do believe, from all sides, it is important to speak up for yourself and communicate respectfully - as it is neccessary so often when traveling and in general in life! We all want to create the best place possible for the dogs! We are all learn! :)

Margot arrived at our place in the middle of a goodbye party of other volunteers. She adapted very quickly to our team and made herself helpful with ease and cheerfulness. Our employees got along well with her as she had a lot of initiative and found her way to communicate, even if at times, with hands and feet. We appreciated her open and calm way and readiness to help as well as to have a laugh with others. Thank you, you are always welcome here, Margot!
