Description
Hi!
My name is Fanni. I’m Dominican–Spanish, I studied Fine Arts and I run a small guesthouse in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
I started this project three years ago and it’s going very well, but there’s always room for improvement. The house is a quiet place with a lovely patio, and I enjoy improving the space with art and plants.
* Short-term help (3–6 days)
For February and March I’m looking for someone for short stays (3 to 6 days) to help specifically with:
-Painting walls
-Gardening
For this short-term, the exchange is 3 hours of work per day.
I provide accommodation, food is not included.
*Long-term / periodic help
During certain periods when I travel outside the country, I’m looking for someone to help take care of the house, including:
-Check-ins and check-outs
-Preparing rooms
-Making sure everything runs smoothly
-Coordinating with the cleaning lady
-Being a friendly and reliable point of contact for guests
-Taking care of Fixi, the cat, and the plants
I’m looking for someone autonomous, proactive, and able to work independently.
If you’re planning to visit the Dominican Republic and have experience in hostels, guesthouses, or practical maintenance work, feel free to contact me!

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
The house is in the Colonial Zone, close to all the main historical places but also in a very familiar neighbourhood.
I am Dominican and although I have only lived in the country for a couple of years I am able to share everything I know about Dominican history and way of life (bachata included) with travelers. In addition, there are some social/cultural/artistic movements in the area that may be of interest to assistants.
I love languages so it would be interesting to share the house with someone who speaks another one.
Help
* Short-term help (3–6 days)
-I need to repaint the walls of some rooms
-I have a lot of plants and I need somebody to help me taking care of the and repotting some
The exchange is 3 hours of work per day.
*Long-term / periodic help
I would like help with
- check-in and check-out's
- assisting the cleaning lady
- assisting guests
- prepare the rooms
- keep the common areas clean during the day
- take care of the plants
The working hours can change a lot as it depends on guest arrivals, it would never be more than 3 hours a day as there are not so many things to do, but you have to be available almost all the time (I mean there are not fixed hours) because check-ins can be at any time during the day (we also have a lock box so you can leave the key there for the guest, but you have to be available in case there is a problem).
There would be a woman coming every Monday for the general cleaning of the house, but in the other days you will have to check that everything is in clean and in order. It is very very important that the house is tidy and clean.
I need a very responsible, and autonomous person, ideally over 25 years old and with some experience in similar positions.

I can share my Spanish ( from Spain) with you, as it is my mother tongue.
Accommodation
The accommodation is in a house that used to be a hostel. Now I live there and rent the other rooms.
The helper/s will have a private room with two twin beds or maybe my room when I am away.
In the house there are a kitchen, a dinning room, that we use mostly for working, and a big patio with some plants. It is a 5 rooms house, I live in one and rent the other ones. Four of the rooms share 2 bathrooms ( one of them with hot water in the shower).
As it is a little hostel, the visits are not allowed, the space has to be always tidy and clean and the guests respected.
The food is not included, as I don´t really cook and my schedules for having lunch/dinner change so much the helpers will have their meals by their own. Close to the house are several "comedores" where you can have the typical dominican meal by 200 pesos ( less than 4$), The travellers can also cook in the house but the fridge is not very big and there is not a lot of space in the kitchen so please don´t buy a looot of food ( the supermarket is close!).
