Description
I grew up in a small town in a rural area of the UK and have spent my last 5 years studying engineering in the city of Bristol. I have recently graduated, and I am currently planning a long trip to Central and South America, during which I would like to take part in a workaway. I am really keen to learn about new cultures as I have not travelled outside of Europe much. I chose Central and South America for my trip for the natural beauty, food, and friendly people.
I am a very outdoorsy and adventurous person, and I think that is partly due to where I grew up. As a teenager I was always outdoors with friends whether it was camping, hiking, surfing, cliff jumping, relaxing at the beach, or fishing. I am always trying to plan some kind of hiking trip, or more recently bike touring / bikepacking trips. Last summer I spent two and a half weeks cycling and camping through the Pyrenees with some friends and I absolutely loved it! It was a great adventure. I am hoping to do a few multi day hikes in Patagonia during my trip. I am bringing all my hiking and camping gear so would also love to do some hikes during my workaway.
After finishing university a few months ago, I have been living back at home just working to save money and I'm now keen for a big adventure. I have worked as an engineer within the renewable energy sector, and this is what I want to pursue a career as I am very passionate about making a difference in climate change. I really enjoyed my time in Bristol as it is nice and relaxed place, with lots of good music, and not too difficult to get into the outdoors. I am quite a social person - I really value spending time with friends and meeting new people and Bristol was great for this also.

More details about your skills
I have recently finished a masters degree in mechanical engineering, throughout which I have become very used to working with computers, working within a team, and coming up with solutions to all sorts of problems. Recently, I have been developing mapping / GIS and excel skills working for a wind farm developer in the US.
Outside of academics, I have worked several jobs that have been quite varied in nature. This includes various retail work where I've helped customers with any questions they had on products; many hospitality jobs in pubs and restaurants where I've had to work efficiently in a team and provide a high level of service to customers; warehouse work involving manual labour and moving heavy items; and more recently working in a bakery serving customers and preparing food. I also spent some time volunteering at a bike charity scheme in Bristol, repairing bikes and donating them to those in need. Last summer, I worked for a neighbour who runs a small-scale apple juice business helping them with maintaining their orchards, cutting back overgrown areas, and general manual labour tasks.
My parents have always been keen gardeners and I have helped them out with various gardening tasks. Growing up in a very rural part of the UK also meant that a lot of my friends were farmers, so I have some knowledge of general farming processes.
I really enjoy cooking and during university I learnt a lot from watching cooking YouTube videos and spent a lot of time making meals with / for friends. I enjoy the process of learning new skills and am always up for a challenge. I have also always been a very active person, playing lots of football and rugby growing up, and more recently transitioning into cycling.
