Volunteering at this place was my very first Workaway experience and it was so above and beyond my expectations. Suzanna and Channy felt like being with family very quickly, they are so lovely to be around. It's a truly special place run by very special people. I was there for less than a month but in that short time, I fell in love with the jungle and all its inhabitants. I learned so much and feel lucky to have had such an enriching connection to Nature. Highly recommended.

I originally planned to stay at the animal shelter for 6 weeks but had to stay for another 2 weeks due to having such and incredible experience here. It is such a peaceful place (even when all the dogs bark) even when you've only been there for 3 days it feels like its been a whole week. With plenty of outstanding sunsets and star gazing and being surrounded by the most beautiful country side and animals it is truly a magical place. Immediately from the first handshake I was welcomed into their home and from there on out I felt part of their family with the staff and all of our fellow volunteers. The facilities were great having access to a full kitchen, AC for cold and hot nights and bikes for us to freely use. Whenever we needed anything for the kitchen or rooms they took great lengths to help as best as they. We were also provided quite a good budget for the food which allowed us to always have a fully stocked kitchen and plenty of options for vegetarians and other dietary needs. With the shared dining room too we could all come to eat together talk and have fun. It was our center stage for dancing and board!!! I'm going to miss all of the staff. Ivan our golden child always providing an endless supply of Börek and chocolate wafers bar and having the biggest collection of board games I've ever seen to always make a fun board games night or allowing us to us them for ourselves! Ivana our incredibly strong crazy boss lady. How she can run so many things at the same time and still have her high endless energy I'll never know, I will miss sharing Rakija with my drinking buddy! then we have, Barbra our fearless warrior, Tatjana our mother of the group, Sanela she may look mean but shes the sweetest gal and Mia having the best chat and introducing me to the world of wine and coca cola! Im going to miss all of them and they have left a lasting impression on me forever. <3 The work at animal shelter was extremely fair. I worked with the farm animals on the afternoon shift from 1pm to 6pm. I worked with a wide variety of animals from pigs, ducks, horses and more. Im going to miss the pigs as they had such great personalities and were always a laugh. Even when mainly working with the farm animals i still worked with the dogs and had plenty of time to give many, many hugs and kisses to all of them. At the shelter you make so many amazing bonds with the dogs and animals, you get to see their behavior and personalities in all of them, its such an unforgettable experience. But of course with working with so many different types of animals its natural for times to get stressful and with some animals they have some really tragic storys, but with the support of the staff and volunteers we can work through it and those feelings never lasted too long! I will forever love this place and will hold it in my heart forever as well. Thank you for experience and i will defiantly be back and will be the king of flip 7!

Simon was a great volunteer—responsible, punctual, focused, and very committed to his tasks. He worked consistently and without hesitation, always completing what was assigned to him with dedication and care. Unfortunately, he had to leave earlier than planned, and we truly wish he could have stayed longer, as we really appreciated having him with us.

Bethan and Adam completed the tasks assigned to them in a satisfactory manner. Their work was done as agreed and met expectations. During their stay, we would have appreciated more interaction and communication with the family, as well as a bit more engagement in daily life. Unfortunately, their time with us coincided with a difficult family situation. Overall, their contribution was acceptable, and we wish them well in their future experiences.

Hope was a wonderful addition to our home. She worked responsibly and consistently, completing her tasks with care and maintaining a positive attitude. She is very polite, respectful, and easy to live with. Although she is still learning Spanish and can be a bit quiet at times, she made a sincere effort to communicate and integrate, which we truly appreciated. Unfortunately, she had to leave earlier than planned, but we genuinely enjoyed having her with us. Her kind and calm personality created a very pleasant atmosphere in our home, and we are grateful for the time she spent here. We would happily recommend her to any future host and wish her all the best in her journey.

I had a great three weeks at the horse rescue! I formed really great friendships with the other volunteers, supporting the rescue’s mission feels meaningful, and spending time with animals is fun. The first few days might be a bit of an adjustment at first since the work is physically demanding if you’re out of shape like me. But if you are comfortable around animals and getting dirty you will be fine! The house is full of rescue dogs so you have to like dogs as it can get quite loud and smelly in the house. It is a farm, so don’t expect the house to be super clean. I was in a room with 6 beds but the number of people staying in the room changed as people came and left. Bring waterproof clothes and earplugs (the house is next to a busy road). In terms of cultural exchange, you will meet really amazing people from all over the world, but the location itself isn’t great for seeing other parts of Ireland. Although there is a bus to Dublin and Galway, it’s a 30 minute walk from the farm to the bus stop on the side of a busy 80km/h road. Most of the staff are really welcoming, hardworking, and want to make sure you’re comfortable.

My time at this place was unforgettable. This time allowed me to really tune in to a natural way of life - tending to the plants, helping to craft woodworks, maintaining the grounds and helping out during retreats as needed. Connecting with the people has been profound as everyone has their own unique skillset to offer. There is plenty of time to learn in the library, share stories and get your green thumb going. This place is like none other. Accommodation is simple and provides an immersive nature experience.

It's was a blessing to have Rae grace my home for an unforgettable week. It was full on belly aching laughter right from the start to the end. Rae is a very respectful young man who is sincerely on the spiritual path. He learns fast & shows great initiative. He does the work required regardless of the clock. Rae is exceptionally kind. He texted me one evening 'tomorrow you can sleep in - I'll make the breakfast and do all the work'. This is the 1st time anyone has said that to me! Rae, you have really touched my heart and I'd welcome you back without hesitation. Definitely a star-spangled workawayer I can recommend. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

We feel incredibly lucky that Amelia and Matt chose to spend their first Workaway experience with us. From the moment they arrived, they slipped into our home with such ease, warmth and good humour that it genuinely felt like having extended family to stay. They are thoughtful, capable and wonderfully self-directed. We could explain a task once and trust it would not only be completed, but completed beautifully and with care. Whether it was repairing bird boxes, mulching roses, planting eucalyptus under Ken’s guidance, rearranging hanging baskets, or tackling the endless joys of garden life, they approached everything with initiative and enthusiasm. And yes — they absolutely earned gold stars for washing the poodles. Amelia brought such creativity and generosity to the kitchen each evening, and Matt’s joy at finding any excuse to drive the tractor was a delight to witness. They balanced hard work with curiosity and appreciation for the environment around them, embracing the garden, the storms, the wildlife and the rhythm of Samford Valley life. They were flexible, respectful of our home, easy to communicate with, and genuinely lovely company over dinner conversations. We trusted them completely and felt very comfortable having them here. We’re so glad our paths crossed and that we’re still keeping in touch as they continue their Australian adventures. Any host would be fortunate to welcome them — they bring skill, positivity, and heart wherever they go. The rainforest regeneration now has two extra champions, and we’ll absolutely be sending photos of those eucalyptus trees as they grow tall.

Excellent communication all the way through. James and Andrea have a wealth of knowledge, skills and life experience to share with you along the way as you steward the land and care for the place. I spent time building retaining walls and garden beds, pruning back flowers and trees and overall ensuring the place is kept tidy and maintained. Plenty of opportunity to learn about the local culture while there. Plenty of bananas and fruit is grown on the land. James and Andrea are building an amazing place. I was able to get tons of hands-on experience with the fruit trees, working with concrete, using a machete and the work that goes on behind the scenes of running a place such as this one. Bring your work clothes and thirst for knowledge, this place has much to offer! Thank you for providing a good place for me to learn, share, grow and connect in so many ways. My heart is full!

Wow! Rosalie was a complete breath of fresh air! So delightful to have around, amazing with the animals and children. She would always complete any task given to her to a very high standard and never once complained about having to work in all different weather situations. She git one with the work even though sometimes it could have been repetitive. Easy to prepare meals for as she was not at all fussy. Always helping with the dishes after meals. We miss her every day and hope that we get to meet her again, or even better, have her back to visit!.

It has been a transformative journey for us, on a physical, emotional and spiritual level. There is definitely a magic in that place, whether it comes from the peaceful river in the forest abundant in fruits, the symphony of birds we can hear from our private house, the wisdom of the children and the elders, or the loving, sacred affection from Tanya herself, who we now hold deeply in our hearts. In addition to harvesting cacao, hosting visitors and guests, doing manual farm work or making chocolate everyday, we were also given the incredible opportunity to do what we love and film a little documentary film with Tanya, thanks to her amazing support and passion. Being surrounded by cacao everyday in many forms has opened new portals in our mind, body and soul, and we continue to carry this precious gift with us along our travels and throughout our lives. Words cannot equal the gratitude we feel for this journey, and everyone who finds this place are extremely lucky people who believe in destiny. Thank you Tanya and the whole community from the bottom of our hearts, we cannot wait for the Universe to bring us together again! <3 Martina and Josh

My stay in Berzona with Daniela, her o so playful son Atticus, her sweet dog and her kind friend was warm, wonderful and in some moments magical. From the moment I arrived, they all made me feel very welcome. Their village and house is like a fairytale, and the beautiful thing is: they seem to appreciate it daily. Everything they do is with so much attention, love, but also playfulness and humor, which made life there so calm, exciting and fun at the same time. I took part in their daily routine, and usually spent the afternoons playing with Atticus and learning from him about animals and Norse myths :) They all have very kind hearts, and when I drove away from the Onsernone valley, my heart pinched a bit. I take many beautiful memories with me, and have even more respect for humankind than I had before :) I hope to return one day!

Sarah stayed at home, helping me to fix many things in the garden, around the house and in my workshop construction proces. She did a hard job transplanting autoctonus threes into pots, also planting three seds. Preparing mulching where it's needed. Also working the wood in doing finishing jobs. She is very kind and responsable. Having her here it has been a super helping gifth and i really apreciate it. Hoping to see you here again that you can see the plantations you did.

Gurmeet stayed two weeks plus one extra week at the farm and quickly became 'part of the familiy'. She was highly motivated and helped where ever she could. We did a lot of things around the house, like painting, waterproofing, repairing little damages from the last rainy season, fixing a broken mud wall and much more. Gurmeet is so versatile that you never run out of topics to chat about and she discovered more of the surrounding hills (walking and running) than any workawayer before. An extremely pleasant company and a great helper ! Please show up again :-) .

Excellent experience. It is a very organized volunteer spot and the property is just stunning. Sergio, the manager of the grounds, was the one we worked with the most and he is a very friendly and positive person, it was a pleasure working with him. Vera and Cam are great hosts, always willing to make your stay there the best it can be. Initially we were going for 2 weeks and we stayed for one month. The work we did was varied, from painting, renewing the forest trail with log steps, planting vines and mostly sawing and shredding branches. Beside we were looking after their well behaved dogs and cat, while the hosts were on holiday. We are very grateful and hopefully one day we will see them again. We highly recommend doing this volunteering.

The stay with this family has been a genuinely positive and well-balanced experience. They are a warm and open-minded household, led by a General Physician and a Physiotherapist who manage clinics both from home and externally, while maintaining a structured and welcoming family environment. They have a teenage son and share a deep passion for equestrian life. Their beautifully maintained barn, horses, and ponies are part of a well-organized horse retreat that reflects discipline, care, and commitment. During the stay, responsibilities included assisting with horse retreat activities, cleaning the barn, caring for the animals, and occasionally preparing meals. The experience offered meaningful exposure to animal care, daily responsibility, and the steady rhythm required to manage such a space. The family is considerate and respectful, ensuring a comfortable and supportive environment throughout. Overall, it has been a grounded, practical, and enriching experience in a home that values both professionalism and a strong connection to nature and horses.

Sarah stayed with us in November and helped us pack up our horse equipment after the season. She worked very well on her own completing all the tasks asked of her and was able to find things to do without being asked. She was very neat and tidy with the accommodation and was a pleasure to have helping us. I would recommend Sarah as a Workawayer!
