It was great having Belle come to visit and help out! She is caring, curious and creative: a wonderful "combo" of attributes! Belle was happy working in the garden (with minimal supervision most of the time, sorry about that Belle!), and cooked up lots of delicious food to share...she's mature, confident and easy-going. Happy to recommend to other hosts! Iona and Phil

Daniel and Hanna are very spiritual people and of course they know a Lot about the garden and helped me as nobody… I am grateful to both of them.

I would like to thank Nixon for welcoming us to his home and his community with incredible hospitality and warmth. He made sure we felt comfortable and prepared us for our volunteering experience at a local elementary school. The teachers were helpful, the kids were incredible and the work didn't even feel like work. We were there from 8am until about 1pm and had plenty of time to explore Homa Bay and the surrounding area afterwards. Nixon is extremely insightful, open and sociable, we've had many great conversations about cultural differences and daily life. His kids are also amazing, I send my best wishes to Skovje and Nigel! I appreciated the simple but delicious local dishes that they shared with us each morning and evening. If you want a real, authentic rural Kenyan experience and meet some genuine people, this is the place to be!

It was a very nice experience to have Neringa with us for almost two weeks. Neringa painted, took good care of animals and cooked delicious vegetarian food for us. She worked very carefully and was good at discussing her tasks with us. We found it very easy to be around Neringa; she was friendly and interesting to talk to. Neringa is an incredibly nice person who we can highly recommend as a workaway.

It was a last-minute Workaway, and Stefano welcomed me right away with great availability, for which I am very thankful! He has a good heart and always tries to help others. He also took me on a few trips to see the surrounding areas, which I really appreciated. When I arrived, it wasn’t exactly the type of volunteering I expected, but I understood right away that it would be a place where I could find a bit of inner peace, and that’s how it was-I stayed for a month. Even though I’m not a person who prays, Stefano will never make you do anything you don’t want, he lets you do only what you feel. In the same way, I respect his faith and his way of living his spirituality, and I felt comfortable helping out with everything that needed to be done in the daily activities. I am grateful for everything and hope that in the future there may also be an opportunity to come back. As for the mouse… it’s hard to fool him, he’s too clever!!! Maybe after a while I’ll get an epiphany and send you a message 😂😂😂

Dear Future Volunteers I wanted to share my wonderful experience as a volunteer at the hostel on the shores of the breathtaking Lago de Atitlán. It was an incredibly rewarding adventure, both personally and culturally. Overall Experience: The hostel offers a perfect balance between tranquility and activity, ideal for those seeking a mix of relaxation and exploration. The surrounding area is rich with opportunities for adventure, cultural immersion, and even creative retreats like the nearby Eagle’s Nest, which is perfect for artistic inspiration or quiet reflection. Cultural Exchange & Community: A huge thank at the wonderful ladies of the Kitchen and the Landry, *local from Guatemala*. Their kindness and warmth made every day special. Working alongside them was a magical experience, offering deep insights into the local culture and the Cakchiquel language. Their hospitality truly made me feel living a true authentic experience. Learning & Growth: This volunteer experience was a fantastic opportunity to learn about local communities and develop my reception skills. I’m especially grateful to Nina, the hotel director, for her patience and support. She was very flexible about adjusting my schedule to take Spanish lessons in the morning and improve my guest-welcoming techniques. Her calm and helpful nature was truly inspiring. Accuracy of the Hostel Profile: The hostel’s description is very accurate, though finding it for the first time can be a bit tricky. Once you arrive, everything is set up to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Recommendation: I wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a meaningful travel adventure, cultural exchange, and a chance to be part of a warm, authentic community. warm regards, Jérémy

We spent about two months with Andrew, and every day was very productive. He gave great support with the garden work and with the steel construction projects we were building in the garden. He is very skilled, punctual, and responsible. He also got along wonderfully with our dogs, who are part of our family. Because we trusted Andrew completely, we were even able to leave our home and dogs in his care when we had to go out of town. We are very grateful for all his help and truly appreciate the time we shared. Thank you, Andrew.

I spent eleven wonderful days on the farm and it was fantastic! I spontaneously extended my stay by a few days to see the rodeo in Lawrence and everything worked out great. My tasks were very diverse, depending on the weather. I photographed clothes and prepared them for online sale, I was allowed to polish Ann's silver, I stepped in for Cameron and helped on the farm when the sheep were weighed and sheared, and I worked in Ann's beautiful large garden! I had some wonderful days and I don't want to miss them, because they really completed my New Zealand experience! I got to try amazing local food and the meals were very healthy and fresh! Hamish and Cameron showed me different aspects of the farm several times: I was able to take beautiful pictures with my camera, we went swimming in the river and I even got to visit the cottage on the east coast. This allowed me to see Nugget Point and join Surfing for Farmers! I highly recommend staying with the family! Thank you for everything!

We had the big chance to join the wonderful theater in Skiathos. We left the island with excellent memories of Phaedra and Ben, who were warm, welcoming and very friendly. The work we were able to do with them was enjoyable and fun; some nights were a bit busier, but everything was so nice that working didn’t feel like working at all! We highly recommend Phaedra and Ben as hosts. Skiathos is a BEAUTIFUL island and all the big team made us feel welcome and part of the family. The project itself is the example of how culture and beauty can shape the society and make it better. It was amazing to contribute to it! We wish everyone the best and hope to be able to return again. ευχαριστώ <3

It is hard to describe how wonderful it was staying with John and Fiona. They welcomed our family of three despite our son having had an accident resulting in him being on crutches and a little more liability then the working force we promised. The accommodations they provide are unique, well built and designed, and spectacular! A short walk on winding paths through their incredibly well maintained native bush lot leads you to a pristine off grid cabin with solar power, hot open air showers, and a humanure toilet system. The lookout, birdsong, and even the chirp of the cicadas became the morning coffee break of my dreams. They graciously let our son stay in their house where he was able to recuperate (and use the wifi!). Our jobs were clearly instructed and we were able to bank ours and work at our own schedule which made a huge difference for our travel logistics. Better people you will not meet and, for me, the small exchange of some hours hard work for this eye opening experience was infinitely beneficial. I can't wait to go home and design my cabin!

A beautiful location and a very sweet host! Because of personal circumstances I only stayed a few days with Laura, but she made a very pleasant impression. She makes sure your stay is comfortable. For example; Tthe cooktop wasn’t working anymore and within a day she had replaced it with another one. The tasks were varied, times are flexible, and I also had the impression that many things were open for discussion. She gives you time to settle into the place and radiates a lot of trust. This place is very suitable if you are looking for a beautiful, safe place to do your Workaway and in your free time to explore the south of Portugal. There are fun things to do in the area; the beautiful Fishermen’s Trail to hike, of go to Lagos if you want to visit some shops, bars and cafés. Just keep in mind that you cook outside (under a shelter), but you’ll have a beautiful view while doing so and even in the wintertime that is easy to do, still warm enough. Do bring a warm sweater though.

Sophia and Klem stayed at my home in Samaipata for two weeks. During their stay, there was a friend visiting for few days and it was also another volunteer here with us. Together the three of them looked after the house and the dogs for four nights while I was workingin in town. During this time they took care of cooking and feeding the dogs and the daily cleaning... when I returned, everything was in perfect order! Unfortunately, both of them were quite sick during part of their stay, so we didn’t work as much as originally planned. The weather was also not always great. However, on the good days we spent time together and made some trips. We visited the waterfalls, saw the Helechos Gigantes, went to the river, and spent time in the village. Sophia and Klem really love the dogs🥰 and the dogs quickly grew very fond of them. The dogs clearly trusted them, and so did I. In one uncomfortable situation, Klem immediately stepped in and handled it calmly without any fear. Both of them are super kind, communicative and warm-hearted people 💜 They enjoy cooking and are very good at it. I’m grateful for their help in and around the house , the love they gave to the doggies and the moments we shared. I wish you many wonderful experiences on the rest of your journey. And I will keep you updated about the puppies 🐶🐾 Ganz viele bisouuuus und passt auf Euch auf. Espero poder visitarles en francia 😘

Joe is a very collaborative person who is always willing to help. Communication with him is very easy, and he is great to live and work with. He also contributed to creating a great environment for everyone on board. We would be happy to have him back on the Hidria anytime!

Julia and Lisandro were an absolute pleasure to have around. They were not only very helpful, independent, skillfull and capable, but also very funny and interesting. We shared many conversations and it was very easy to connect with them. Our list of tasks became much shorter thanks to their willingness to help. Lisandro is a great cook who "ruined" our boring diet completely and also has many "secret" skills and huge experience fixing stuff. Julia is the loveliest young woman; she is very resourceful and was of invaluable help with the animals. They are both very attentive and adapted perfectly and immediately to our routine. They became friends for us through their own merit, and we hope we can see them again soon. Consider yourself lucky if you can have them as volunteers!

My time here was truly an unforgettable experience. From the very first moment I arrived, Camilo, the manager, was incredibly welcoming and made me feel instantly part of the Po Family. The other volunteers, Luis, Diego, and Tati, quickly became more than just teammates, they became real friends. We shared so many laughs, good conversations, and great moments together. The hostel itself has such a warm atmosphere that it really felt like a home away from home. The work was exactly as described on the Workaway page, with no surprises, and the hours were always respected. It felt fair, organized, and enjoyable, which made the whole experience even better. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to experience the real spirit of Valparaíso, meet amazing people, and be part of a little family for a while. I’m so grateful for this experience. I’m gonna miss you guys! ❤️

It will be impossible to forget my time at Bayura despite the five weeks I spent there seeming to go by in a flash. From the day I arrived I was welcomed into their house as an equal and quickly felt completely at home. The project itself is incredibly fascinating, Max is very dedicated to the principles of permaculture, being a great source of knowledge on the area he was happy to answer all my questions. I thoroughly enjoyed every job I was given and really appreciated the level of autonomy that was allowed to me with much the work. Cooking was particularly fun since it often involved using up some exciting ingredients from the garden. On top of the fulfilling day to day life I was given an incredible tour of some of the highlights of Gijon and asturias such as its Caves, Bars, Clubs, Ski slopes, Chocolate y churros and folk events. I don't think I could've asked for a better introduction to Asturias.
