I had a wonderful two weeks with Colin and Luisa. They are incredibly generous, warm, and welcoming people who made me feel at home from the very beginning. I really enjoyed the time spent with them and the other Workawayers, it was such a beautiful and fulfilling experience. A special thanks to Colin for the delicious lunches every day, as well as all the great conversations and laughter we shared during work. I learned a lot during my stay and truly appreciate everything. I hope to see you again someday :)

I am incredibly glad to have had the opportunity to stay with Carla and Tonino’s beautiful family! My stay with them was six weeks long and there has never been a dreary day! All of them are insanely welcoming! Carla connected me to a few other people and helped me make friends! I visited them in a rather tranquil time but Raffa and Greta always made sure to take away any form of boredom. As I spent a lot of my time there with Carla I can say she is such a lovely person and I felt completely at ease with her! Therefore, I would 100% recommend them to any other Workawayer!

Eli and Pierre’s two-week stay was a valuable and meaningful experience for us. We are delighted to have been a stop on their cycling trip from Belgium via France, Sardinia and Sicily. We found them to be extremely well-organised, genuinely friendly, incredibly helpful, polite and health-conscious. They have both been working hard in the vineyard and preparing the soil for the vegetable garden. Our conversations in English were challenging at times, but very interesting and entertaining. We said our goodbyes with a feeling of gratitude for having hosted such wonderful people. A huge thank you, Eli and Pierre! We’re sorry we couldn’t add anything to your experiences with goats – that’s just how it was :) We wish you all the best for your important project with goats, and lots of love and happiness for your Life!

To show how much we enjoyed having Eliza around, she was the first worker we ever asked to stay longer. She was such a delight to have around - positive and ready for any task, wonderful company during meals and just a pleasure to have around. Smart, communicative and full of energy she was the perfect fit for us. Highly recommend her for any future work away hosts. Even the doggies who are usually standoffish to stranger took to her immediately.

Haylie was great - she did two separate stints with us house and animal sitting, as well as normal Workaway tasks while we were around. Great company, excellent dinner table conversations! No hesitation whatsoever recommending her to others, always welcome back! Cheers, travel well!

Dear Helena and Mutlu, Thank you so much for everything. You truly treated me like family during my stay. Helena is such a kind and wonderful person. She is always caring and gives her love to everyone around her. Whenever I needed help, you were always quick to check on me and support me, which made me feel very comfortable and welcomed. I was able to learn so much—not only about the food, but also about the history and culture. Mutlu’s cooking was honestly even better than the meals I had at restaurants!! I really hope to see you again someday. Thank you again for such a wonderful experience. Taichi

Daisy, sweet ferocious, Daisy! This woman and her beautiful family have shifted my perspective in priceless ways, from opening my eyes to the beauty of Irish culture, to educating me on holistic remedies, and randomly breaking into dance parties at anytime. I'm indebted to her generosity, truly, she has this astonishing ability to bring out the soft parts in people, to make them feel safe and seen which is a quality not many have. I will forever cherish those moments of afternoon tea, heating our bones in front of the furnace, playing with Cara and Mikey, ravishing chocolate covered dates, and many many more. Anyways, if you get an opportunity to visit Ireland, please choose Daisy as your host, you will not regret it. As for location, Clonakilty is a beautiful, quaint area on the coast. I was able to take the bus to other locations, which made transportation very accessible. There are a number of incredible hikes, short walks, and bodies of water. During my stay, we got to attend and participate in a Samhain parade, which was my number one goal of my trip. Clonakilty has amazing pubs, cafes, and cute little shops to spend your day discovering. There's many opportunities to learn about Irish history, artists, musicians, writers, actors, etc. You will leave fulfilled!! For work, Daisy allowed me to select what I wanted to help with based on my skillset. In the first week, a fellow workawayer and I redid her amazing daughter, Cara's, room which was a complicated yet fun project to focus on (plus we got to paint the room such cool colors). Then I moved towards more housework, like cleaning, organizing, and landscaping. Everything was very reasonable, and Daisy would give us the afternoons and weekends for free time. She reminded me that my experience there would always outweigh the work aspect, which was such a comforting shift from my previous workaday situation. The room is in a shed away from the house. It is cozy and small, with the amenities you will need. The bathroom is in the house which can be a bit of a journey at night, but not an issue. In addition, the wasn't any WiFi in the room but I was able to use the house during the day to get my online tasks done. Regardless, you will be fed, safe, well rested, and comfortable. Daisy, you are a magical, powerful woman that has changed my life. I would love to return sometime in the future!

Kevin was a delightful house guest and a huge help with the many jobs we asked him to help with . He worked hard and completed every job to a high standard. Gardening, weeding, mulching, cleaning out the barns, stacking firewood and more. When he was not working he was relaxing company, and independently went off exploring the area. Kevin was tidy and always left the kitchen immaculate when he prepared himself any meals. Kevin related well to all the animals and had a calming influence on them, even the pig fell under his spell. He has a great sense of humor and we enjoyed many deep and interesting conversations as well as just sharing stories. Do not hesitate to host Kevin if you get the opportunity. We miss his beautiful energy and would welcome him back in a heart beat

If your goal is to learn and develop fundamental skills for a self-sufficient life this is the place for you! From basics like wood fetching and gardening to niches like bee-keeping and forging, every day will be full of activities and truly fulfilling. Antoine is a master "falegname", an incredible musician and a remarkable host. With him and the other guys usually around you will support their renovation project, deeply intertwined with the respect of nature and landscapes. Celestial food, deep conversations, gaming nights and live music are just a few examples of what you can enjoy in your spare time at home. Beautiful views and relaxing walks await you outside in this wild part of the Appennini, places to discover, rivers to swim into, small villages where you can feel and touch the true italian culture. In no time you will call this place "home".

The two weeks Ahu spent with us in October were absolutely lovely. A perfect mix of work in and around the house, fun, moments of relaxation and good conversation. Her reliability, cheerful disposition, patience and sense of humour are particularly worth mentioning. We really enjoyed her stories about her roots, her interest in pistachios, and her enthusiasm during the grape harvest. Her light-hearted, witty and empathetic way of communicating was greatly appreciated. All in all, we highly recommend hosting Ahu! Thank you so much, Ahu!!! You globetrotter, feel free to come back!

I volunteered at the shelter for a month this winter and it was an experience. As mentioned in previous reviews, the work itself is very structured, usually from 8am to 1pm, only I worked mostly in the evening instead. There are a few employees who are nice but only speak French. If you already know some French and want to improve your skills, like me, that’s perfect. For people who “only” speak English it might be hard though, as nobody at work speaks English aside from the other volunteers. There are basically three different jobs to do at the refuge. One is to take care of cats and rabbits. Then you could do feeding of the birds, goats, sheep, cows, pigs, donkeys and horses, as well as cleaning the latter. The third job is the most physical one and involves cleaning the cow’s, donkey’s and some horse’s homes. To me, the work was fun but also very stressful at times. It was less because of the work itself but more because of the team’s dynamics. I felt like Sandra and her employees had some problems, also communication-wise, as there was not always someone to guide the volunteers through their tasks. From an outside perspective, I would say the refuge was understaffed a little and had team-intern issues so that the whole working atmosphere was hectic and sometimes frustrating. Opposing to other reviews, I’d say this affects the volunteers a lot and causes not having much time left to spend with the animals and get to know them so well. We volunteers lived about a kilometer away from the refuge, hence work and free time were very separated. However, it was a familial atmosphere in the house as we spent most of our free time together. Only sometimes it was exhausting to be surrounded by so many people all the time and not having personal space, especially when sleeping in the bedroom of five. But apart from that, the house is well equipped with washing machine, towels, vacuum etc. and we always received generous amounts of groceries. Avilley is on the countryside, without any real contact to the city life as there is no public transportation available at all and (during my time) almost everyone arrived without a car. Luckily, we could organise with Sandra to get a lift to Besançon on certain days, when the team picked up donations from there. Like that, I was able to visit Belfort, Besançon and Dijon on my days off. All in all, I would say this refuge is a volunteering spot with a lot of potential. Sandra is friendly and takes good care of the volunteers and their accommodation. The animals are amazing and the work can be fun but the atmosphere is sometimes really tense. You will have the chance to improve your French skills and meet a lot of people!

I had an amazing week staying with Lian and Kieran, along with their lovely daughter Ophelia. They are incredibly welcoming, communicative, and easygoing people. I really enjoyed all the conversations we had — we shared great moments, lots of laughs, and meaningful exchanges throughout the week. Their home is beautiful, and I found it especially interesting to learn about how their vegetable garden works. They also have a second property with a great project that I had the chance to be part of, which made the experience even more rewarding. The tasks were varied and interesting, and I learned a lot during my stay. On top of that, they are amazing cooks — I had some really delicious meals! There are also plenty of great activities to do around the area, especially beautiful hikes, which made the whole experience even better. I highly recommend staying with them — it was truly a wonderful experience.

Goodness, my time at this place was incredible. Originally thinking I would be spending only 1 month, I ended up being there for 4! I will never forget my experience at this beautiful place. During my time, I worked in reception and assisted with hotel needs. It was a special experience being able to interact with guests from all over the world that came to stay with us. And a great way to use my spanish skills! Along with hotel duties, there were many opportunities to be involved in the local community with beach cleans ups, puppy adoption fairs, and a local cultural center! Truly, I never had a boring moment. And of course being right on the beach was a HUGE plus! The hosts, Maria and Rodolfo, are extremely hospitable and accommodating. They made my Workaway experience comfortable and truly became family. They're passionate about their community and loving to all who meet them. The whole family is amazing! Including the 4 sweet dogs. 🥹 If you're looking for a Workaway with a relaxing environment, opportunity for meaningful cultural exchange, and a great location, this is it!! Thank you for all of your incredible memories!! See you soon 😊🤍

Our two week stay with Jayalakshmi was rejuvenating, joyful, and peaceful. After a chaotic month of travel it was exactly the quiet, welcoming place we needed. The property is beautiful and its abundance of trees and birdsong is a testament to the amazing work Jaylakshmi has done revitalizing the dry land. Her food is absolutely delicious and abundant (“No Jaylakshmi! We can’t eat any more!!”) and the mud/palm leaf guest house we stayed in was cool and delightful, a lovely place to rest during the heat of the afternoon. Only trouble were the mosquitos but installing nets over the beds dealt with that. Also, the three ladies who work with Jaylakshmi are absolutely delightful! (Mayalama!!) Even though they don’t speak much English, we found ways to laugh together every day. The work hours were clear and the tasks to choose from were interesting and abundant: tending to the cows, painting, making pots, irrigation, and making a video about her unique place. Thank you again Jayalakshmi for such a lovely stay!
