Hello!
My name is Haylie and I'm a 31 year old physical therapist (physio) from the United States. I am in New Zealand for the first time on a working holiday and looking forward to exploring this beautiful country!
I am not new to traveling, before I went to graduate school I did volunteer work developing and running youth programs on US military bases around the world including Japan, Italy, Germany, Bahrain, and Hawaii. In regards to my career as a physical therapist, I started my career working in a top metropoitan hospital in the US and then transitioned into a travel-based role where I would fill vacancies for 3-5 months in hospital, nursing, and assisted living settings. All that to say, I am no stranger to arriving in an unfamiliar place and jumping straight into work, many times working in teams of people I have only just met!
In my free time I enjoy yoga, reading, hiking and camping, and just being outdoors in general. During my time in New Zealand I plan to travel via campervan and utilize workaway to create meaningful experiences and relationships during my travels. I am interested in learning new skills, deepening my mindfullness practices, and experiening authentic New Zealand life to see if it might be a good fit for me long-term. While I may not be able to act as a physical therapist without proper licensing here in New Zealand, I still carry many skills including excellent communication, empathy, responsibility, planning, and attention to detail. I also have loads of experience in childcare. I'm a self-sufficient and adaptable person and am able to be flexible within reason. Additionally, I am able-bodied and willing to learn. I also have some experience in painting (walls, not pretty portraits unfortunately) and like the opportunity to work with my hands and be creative.
