no kids or pets to look after

We are a couple who live in Taranaki on a small farm together with our 3 sheep, 2 dogs and 6 chickens. We finished building our own home and now need help with projects around the garden and house. Although we work hard, life here is very good and fairly laid back. There are very comfortable seperate living quarters for helpers, all meals provided and there is a lake to swim in. Our property is beautiful with views of Mount Taranaki and we have planted hundreds of trees. We have space for a couple or two friends who are strong, hard working, healthy and easy to get along with. Please note that we only take helpers who have their own transport.

Skills we can transfer are weaving hurdles, pollarding, coppicing, propagating plants, planting live hedges, working in rammed earth and light straw clay (LSC). Also building decks and pergolas. You will see native NZ birds and forests every day and wake up to Tui's calling and fall asleep to the Ru Ru (a NZ owl) calling. We are happy to teach English and we speak some French, English and some Dutch. From here you can go and enjoy the Surf Coast, 45 minutes away, climb Mount Taranaki, walk the native forests and explore our local lakes (conservation areas). New Plymouth is a town which offers everything you may need. We hope to help you learn about NZ native fauna and flora if you are interested.

    Help

Work would include digging post holes, weeding the garden, moving piles of stuff (bricks, wood or gravel). Assisting in construction of decks and pergolas would be needed and help trimming trees (in winter there is pollarding and also coppicing).

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will have your own brand new accommodation with bathroom and two single beds. There is a basic area for kitchen stuff but not cooking - just snacking, tea and coffee (fridge, microwave, kettle etc). You have a large screen TV and a huge library of DVD's to choose from. All food is provided by the main house. We do not cater for vegans or vegetarians. We eat a full natural range of paddock to plate. We grow 99% of our food and meat is sourced locally from neighbouring farms or the forest.
