I thoroughly enjoyed my three weeks here and highly recommend this as a Workaway placement. I was responsible for the conversation clubs, which take place Monday through Thursday for four hours each afternoon. Since the students are mostly young adults, they are relatable and very eager to learn. You should expect to spend about an hour each day on preparation. As someone with no prior classroom experience who hopes to teach English professionally in Latin America in the future, I found this to be a brilliant introduction to the field. About half of your students will likely be beginners. While not strictly mandatory, you will benefit greatly from having at least some ability to explain yourself in Spanish. Beyond the classes, you can expect to attend Friday game nights at a local cafe for about two hours, join a few weekend excursions, and assist the school with its social media—all of which are easy and fun. Overall, the workload is manageable. In return, you receive free accommodation in a private, compact apartment just a few minutes’ walk from the school. I truly enjoyed life in Tehuacán. It had everything I needed: great cafes, excellent food, a variety of gyms, a perfect climate, and friendly people. The city feels safe, affordable, and well-maintained. It is authentically Mexican and offers a wonderful reprieve from the typical tourist bubbles found in Mexico City and other major hubs. Most of all, I will miss the students and the staff, particularly the founder, Oscar. I greatly appreciated their kindness and the trust they placed in me. I am certain I'll be tempted to return later in my trip.

We had Justine & Coline with us for two weeks and the girls were lovely. Even with the rainy weather they always had a smile on their faces and were willing to do any task

I stayed with Almendra and her son Munay for about a month, even though I originally planned only two weeks, and that already says a lot about the experience. From the start, I felt very welcome. Almendra is open-minded, warm, easygoing, and speaks excellent English, which made everything very smooth. We connected quickly and naturally, and it didn’t take long before it felt more like staying with friends than doing a Workaway. Munay is a great kid, and it was really nice spending time with both of them. I had a lot of freedom to organize my own working hours and choose the projects I preferred, which I really appreciated. Almendra trusted my ideas and valued my opinion, which made the work even more enjoyable. When other volunteers joined, we moved to a slightly more structured schedule, which actually worked well to keep things organized and social, especially around breakfast and lunch. She provides breakfast and lunch, and she’s a very good cook. Dinner is up to the volunteers, and there’s a separate kitchen to use, which gives a nice balance of shared and independent time. I stayed in a private cabin in the backyard, which was very comfortable. The house itself is like a small sanctuary, a green oasis in the middle of a huge city, with a really pleasant atmosphere and climate. It’s very easy to reach the city center, around 15 minutes by metro, although I often didn’t feel the need to leave because the house and neighborhood were so nice. Almendra was also very open to sharing her side of the city, taking me to cool places and introducing me to interesting and lovely people, which made the experience even richer. I really loved my time here and would absolutely recommend staying with this lively and welcoming family.

Michela was a wonderful Workaway. It didn't matter the task, Michela tackled it with enthusiasm and hard work. She was engaging, easy going, and a tremendous amount of help. She is invited anytime to stay. I'd give her more stars, if I could.

I had a really special week at Mark and Maz’s place. Their property is beautiful, and as many before have said, it feels like paradise! The work mainly consisted of weeding in the forest, but I also got to pick plums one day which was great fun. There is SO much fresh fruit and veg growing in the garden which we were encouraged to use, so we cooked many delicious meals (I love cooking so this was a dream). We were staying at the same time as lots of other amazing volunteers so there was a wonderful sense of community and we shared so much laughter together. Mark is a cool guy who has many impressive skills (and great fashion sense) - I was honestly in awe of the place he has built. Maz is also such a sweet and welcoming person. One highlight was our night at Rocky Spur platform, a unique and magical experience. I also loved having a daily swim in the pool. Overall it was an incredibly fulfilling week, it was hard for us to leave and we wished we could’ve stayed longer. Thank you Mark and Maz!

I stayed with Maria and Steven for over two weeks and had an amazing experience. They are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home from the start. They often invited me to family events like birthdays and BBQs and always provided transport. Steven was especially great—he took me snorkeling and cycling, which made my stay even more memorable. The volunteering work was very relaxed and enjoyable. I loved working on the farm, especially feeding the ducks and washing one of their horses. Transport to and from the farm was always arranged. On days we didn’t go, I helped the cleaning lady with Maria’s Airbnbs. I made so many great memories and would highly recommend staying with them.

It was so nice having Kaitlyn here helping us out with the project. She is a hard worker and has the willingness to help out wherever needed. We not only enjoyed her company but the creativity she brought! She even made the pups a hand made macrame toy. We’re grateful for her support during the beginning stages of the NGO and wishing her all the best during her travels!

Kathi, Gerald, Nino, Lottie, the sheep, and the four cats of their community in Wallsee are genuinely hosts like no other! The 6 weeks I spent in their home were grounding, gratifying, peaceful, hilarious, freeing, and warm. There was always food available, opportunities to cook, time to rest and to go for walks, many instances to learn about Austrian culture, and to find balance and a way to feel at home in the fun and filled daily routines of their life. Thank you to all of you for your patience, kindness, open-mindedness, global perspectives, humour, and understanding! I look forward to visiting again in the future :)

Staying with Sidsel over Christmas/New Years was a beautifully heartwarming experience! Sandefjord is a lovely town, and being cosy in the cottage was perfect during sunny and snowy weather. Following the initial adjustment of being 4 people in a small space, and navigating how the routines, and traditions of everyone could come together, the two weeks I spent there were filled with laughter, genuine connection, curiosity, exploration, walks, games, music, stories, and amazing food! Sidsel is an inspiring, energetic, spontaneous person who easily shares her passion for living a life filled with adventure and discovery, with all those around her. I look forward to visiting again in the future and a big thank you to Sidsel for having me and welcoming me into her Norwegian-Danish-global world.

Judy, Clark, Hazelle and Lilah made me feel at home for one week. I was able to lend a hand (mainly with painting and waterblasting) around the house and on the farm with the sheep. I also had the chance to explore this beautiful hilly region. The whole family were lovely to me and I really appreciated their hospitality, kindness, sense of humour and the good chats we had. A brilliant experience!

Really good experience with Vadim. Ethan enjoyed playing basketball with him and hanging out with him. He did check in and communicate on the WhatsApp group which helped coordinate activities.

It was a joy to have Isobel on the farm, very easy going, laid back hard worker. Always with a smile and happy to do whatever we needed. Totally capable of working solo but also fit in great with our little team for group work. Very self sufficient and capable person we would not hesitate to recommend to any host. Thanks for all of your hard work Isobel!

I truly had a great time at the kayala finca. Sandra and michael were super nice with us ( and also good cookers and poker players 😊). Also always helped if we had an issue. I worked on different missions such as painting walls and metal, grouting the tiles, doing a path near the river, and others. The afternoons were super chill, you can go to the city, have a walk, take a swim in the river. I learnt a lot surrounded by the nature! The city is a bit far but being able to enjoy a beautiful vue everyday was worth it. Thank you very much for everything

I can 100% recommend staying with Alejandro at his countryside house project. Ale is a generous, calm, open-minded, and friendly person. The house is located in a charming small town where you can find everything you need, including small grocery stores, restaurants, and bakeries. His dogs are sweet and well-behaved, and the property feels like a private little forest. The house and all facilities are clean and well maintained. He has a very well-organized and fair system for food, work, and cleaning. The meals were healthy, nutritious, and delicious. I stayed with him for almost a month and am truly grateful for his patience in teaching me Spanish. The work tasks were diverse, and I learned a lot—which is something I really value about Workaway.

Sarah and Crosby are both very fun to be around as well as very hard working. I truly enjoyed my time with them and I believe we will be friends for life. They were very invective and artistic in many aspects and they helped situate things better than before. Highly recommend!

I spent 10 days with Judith and Richard and had a great experience. I immediately felt welcome at their place, specially when Judith handed me a bag with things for my breakfast full of delicious surprises :). They were always making sure I could come to their place when I wanted. We had many conversations, many delicious food, many Fika :) and we went on a really nice tour one day. I could go hiking, cycling and even roller skating. I helped with the horses, cutting wood, piling up branches and some other indoors work. Thank you very much for receiving me and I wish you all the best!
