Description
Our project is an NGO creating a network of self-sufficient sanctuary communities across the tropics focused on edible reforestation, ecological repair, and community living. Help create lasting change on the planet. We’ve just moved into a new location and the NGO building is in need of a make over. We are having fun using this new space as a fresh canvas that’s full of possibility! There’s still lots of work ahead, but we’re making steady progress everyday. You don’t need any special skills, just a willingness to help where it’s needed. If you’d like to be part of a small team bringing a bit of magic into this beautiful space, we look forward to meeting you. Check out our IG to learn more! @sanctuarytropicaledibleplants

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We often enjoy having conversations that are centred around community living, self exploration & plants! We offer work shops based on the Life Diet and the Seed to Seed Cycle. The Life Diet is learning how to create delicious nourishing meals using the Life Diet principles. The Life Diet is a guideline that supports the optimal life of the plants we eat and how it affects the human body. The Seed-to-Seed Cycle is learning how we grow edible plants from seeds using methods that support the plant’s full life cycle. You’ll join us in seasonal tasks like sowing, planting, harvesting, and soil building to better understand our long-term food production system. Beyond the project there are many ways to immerse yourself in the local culture here like visiting the nearby ruins, (including Tikal), exploring the abundant food markets and walking through Flores Island to watch the sunset.

Registered charity
This host is a registered charity in their country and is looking for volunteers to help with their project(s).

Help
Outdoors: watering plants and helping out in the vivero (plant nursery), prep building to be painted (scraping old paint off, sanding), help paint exterior & interior of surfaces, general yard work: cleaning debris, pressure washing, organizing outdoor spaces.
Indoors: assist in the kitchen (food prep plant based meals), helping with laundry, sweeping, mopping floors & general cleaning, scrubbing toilets, sinks, showers, emptying garbage & keeping communal areas tidy.
We are open to volunteers with other skillsets, such as carpentry, design, gardening & social media etc. We can discuss your strengths to find where your help can be most beneficial.
