Lara and Tony are wonderful hosts. They are such great conversationalists and have loads of knowledge about the flora, fauna, and destinations that surround their home. This was my first Workaway experience--I felt so safe the whole time and it was absolutely wonderful all around. They let me structure my time with tasks that were within my strengths, and were extremely flexible when I needed to change up my schedule. I will remember this experience extremely fondly, especially our day trip to the beach, walking around their beautiful property, having dinner together, the wolf game, talking about the bugs and plants, and petting their sweet kitten!

Fredi and Angie were the most hardworking, friendly, enthusiastic workawayers to date. They got stuck into any task. They brought more light and joy into our community. I cant praise them enough. If they apply to join your workaway, you should definitely take them. No matter the mission, they will go above and beyond. They will take initiative. Just good people, doing good, being good, and they added a lot of value to our space. They were consistent with the practice, and it was a pleasure to work and train along side them. Gracias. Orkun charan. Thanks. Big love from Team GZ.

From the very first day, Tatiana was a breath of fresh air for all of us. It is rare to meet a volunteer who arrives with such genuine motivation, positive energy, and a truly beautiful attitude and Tatiana brought all of that and more. She didn’t just help; she uplifted the entire shelter. Her good vibe, willingness to step in wherever needed, and natural kindness changed the atmosphere around her. She worked with care, thoughtfulness, and respect for the dogs, for the people, and for the space. Everything she did came from a place of sincerity and responsibility. Tatiana is the definition of what a volunteer should be: motivated, kind, present, emotionally intelligent, and deeply supportive. She didn’t need guidance to do the right thing she simply knew how to be there, how to help, and how to contribute in a meaningful way. Beyond her help, she is simply a very beautiful person, inside and out. Having her with us was a privilege, and her presence left a lasting, positive mark on the shelter. We are truly grateful for her time, her energy, and her heart.

Ailsa was so kind, we could stay with her spontaneously and she picket us up from the bus station. We learned a lot about Australian culture and the best place to visit 😍 Food was bought as desired or a joint shopping list was created. Work was never too hard and around noon when it got hot we could also have free time. It was a very good time and We would come back immediately if we are in the area!!

I stayed with Alison for about 10 days and I had a really good time! I didn't know what to expect since it was my first time using workaway, but I immediately felt welcomed and cared for. I had a private room with a simple bathroom and Alison wasn't just giving me ingredients to cook for myself, but she was preparing all my (delicious) meals from scratch. I really didn't need to work much, I helped her and her husband with cleaning some of their houses that they rent and that was a way to explore the town. I had my own car but this is the perfect place if you don't have one because Alison will take you with her, she really cares about safety in general. I was also pleasantly surprised to see how active she is; she surfs everyday, kayaks, swims, she was learning how to skateboard and she will happily take you with her! Her dog Coco was also pretty cute :) I really enjoyed my time with Alison and I would recommend her to anyone that wants to explore Mackay and have a good time!

I love Boulder Colorado, probably my most favorite place in America! I strongly need you to check it out... As a local host, Joel has an infinite knowledge of what's happening in the area, from all the hiking trails to fun cultural events in town and around. It's always fun to hangout with Joel, good vibes indeed. He is just a wonderful musician as well. It is a convenient location, everything you need is accessible on the bike. There's always a cool project around the house, I love Joel's cat, she's a sweetheart. And finally, it's easy to communicate with Joel, have a great time in Boulder Colorado!

It was so lovely hosting Alfred & Lukas for a fortnight, first for a week of house minding, followed by garden help upon my return. Both are highly personable, warm hearted, and sincere young men. They were reliable, trustworthy, passionate, and enthusiastic. Particularly impressive was their ability to adapt quickly to my home, which they were left to look after a matter of hours after meeting me. The cultural exchange was lovely, with the boys showing me many YouTube clips on Swedish life, sport and culture. Both are easy to converse with, and radiate passion for life. They are true ambassadors for their country, and I felt blessed to have them for the time I did. I wish them both the very best for their future adventures and endeavours, and most recommend them.

Gregory was a great help during his stay here. He worked hard on our fence project, helped with animal care, and was wonderful with our kids. We trusted him to look after our home and farm, and he proved to be responsible, supportive, and reliable. We’d gladly host him again and recommend him to other hosts.

We had such a great stay with P and Stuart! They were very welcoming and we're very grateful for our time spent here! The property itself is beautiful, and the work we did around the grounds was very reasonable. The sleepout was very comfortable and a nice break from being on the road! P was awesome about making sure we had everything we needed!

I stepped into this family’s life for a short break from my full-time job, and the little wonder here is two-year-old Kismet. She remembered our tricky Asian names in a day. When instruments came out, she naturally became an improvising chanting poet. She loves spinning, rice, tea, soy sauce, and bread — and even someone like me, usually not melted by kids, couldn’t help but notice the sweet connection forming between us. Meanwhile, Alexia and Steven’s little Leela is growing organically in their care. I was so surprised that in here a well-designed fireplace beats heating a hundred times over. Life is alive and organic: the best homemade kombucha I’ve ever had, winter apples still on the trees, Salt Spring Island kiwis, wild herbal teas, chili sauce, and a surprisingly cozy indoor compost toilet. The island’s contact improvisation community is completely different from urban jams — warm, and energizing. Travel and workaway always stir the heart, sometimes making you dream of quitting your job. We explored forests and ocean-view ridges with another workawayer, watched clouds rise from the valley, and smelled the crisp, icy air. Before leaving, I watched others take a night sea swim with the ferry entering the harbor behind them. Thinking of the conversations, sourdough bread, and the house life itself — I can only recommend coming to experience life here for yourself!

Severin is the perfect workawayer! An open minded, calm, very eager personallity, that sees the work to be done and adjusts to your needs. She is a happy and empathic lady with a big heart for animals and people. We laughed, cried and worked together as if we knew one another for a long time already. She kept her personal space vert tidy and enjoyed her free time dancing, writing or doing yoga. We had a hard time letting her go and will for sure see her again! All the best for you Severin and enjoy your chocolate :-)

Constantin did lots of weeding, cleaned gutters and helped with basic daily housework. He looked after my dog Maddie with genuine care for her well-being. Clearly he's a 'dog AND cat person!' He was very affectionate and attentive to Maddie and Tibbles, our aloof cat. I enjoyed language teaching during Constantin's stay - I'm not sure I've ever met a more eager student! 'Short Language Lesson...' is how he started his enquiries about vocab, structure, idioms, Australianisms and pronunciation. Good onya, mate 👍! Constantin aimed to please and to fit in with how things are done round here. If you like cake, Constantin's your man! Using our garden lemons and plums, he baked delicious sponges, a lot like my nonna used to make! He also cooked some really yummy meals. I have no hesitation recommending this well-seasoned traveller 😀

It was a great time with Rebecca. We did some garden work but also work in the house, which was not hard. The meals Rebecca cooked were amazing. We had lovely evenings, great concersations about New Zealand, our home country, but also many other things. Sometimes friends or family of Rebecca visited which was also very nice. Rebecca was very respectful, cared for us and gave us awsome reccommodations for Nelson and the surroundings. Thank you very much for hosting us!

We absolutely loved having Cam at the sanctuary! He is one of those rare volunteers who is not only incredibly hard-working and super reliable, but also brings such a friendly, positive energy to the team every single day. His genuine love for the animals is clear in everything he does, and he was always willing to jump into any project with enthusiasm. And of course, having Chedz the super cute dog here was a highlight - what an absolute star! Cam is a fantastic human and a brilliant worker. We are so grateful for his time here and can’t wait for the next visit!

We cannot recommend Ellie highly enough. During her three-month stay, she proved herself to be an exceptionally responsible and reliable team member who we fully entrusted with the complex care of our animals. Whether it was routine feeding or more intensive projects like enclosure building and land clearing, she was consistently thorough and often went above and beyond without being asked. It’s rare to find someone who balances such a lovely, easy-going personality with such a deep, genuine devotion to animal welfare. She truly made a difference here, and any host would be lucky to have her. She is a huge asset to any host, and we can’t wait to have her back!
