    Description

Pic of me is overlooking the harbour at Albany WA - not where I live, but well worth a visit! 😊 I have a house on 2000sqm in the Perth Hills - 20 minutes from Midland station and trains to the City. I have hosted couchsurfers for many years and the feedback is that it is a really relaxing spot to chill out after travelling. I am 3kms from major supermarkets (Mundaring), 15 minutes drive to Mundaring Weir and State Forest and Lake Leschenaultia. There are some buses pass by my place, but not many - and none that can get you back after 6pm or so. I can occasionally pick people up from Mundaring though which has a few more buses. I love the garden and location of my place - very peaceful, usually live alone but often have friends or family stay over. Good wifi and the usual kitchen and laundry facilities. I really enjoy meeting people from other States or countries and telling them all about the amazing spots in Western Australia.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I am originally from Scotland and moved to Oz in the 70s and have travelled widely here and lived in every State at some stage. I retired 15 years ago and usually go to the UK and Europe (and sometimes other spots) every year for 3 or 4 months, catching up with family and friends. Many friends are people I met when I hosted them as couchsurfers and we have stayed in touch. I really find people interesting and love to learn about different cultures and histories. I know a fair bit about Australian Aboriginal history and find may travellers would like to know more about it. My other interest is live music so if there is a local gig somewhere I am usually keen to go. I often go to live music in Fremantle as well. I am very flexible and comfortable communicating with people from all ages and backgrounds. I have a little bit of French and even littler bit of German but we always seem to manage😊

  • Help

    Help

I am keen to have someone help me maintain my garden - weeding, raking, blower etc, clearing gutters of leaves and possibly filling the trailer and taking it to the tip if they have a valid drivers licence. Any gender/single or couple. Sometimes I might need some inside work done - painting etc. I am usually around and if so can help - just have difficulty with heavy work. I will make a proper list so we are both on the same page😊 I can offer help with understanding systems in Australia like tax file numbers etc, and definitely offer info on good place to visit or road trip. I have travelled heaps myself so have a good idea of what it is like. I am happy to provide food for the Workawayer but you might be better to cook it yourself, cooking not being one of my strengths😁

    Accommodation

I have a spare room with a double bed, use of a private toilet and bathroom. I have another 2 bedrooms but no beds but ok if you have your swag or sleeping bag/mattress. Also have space for a tent, camper or caravan. My kitchen is small but has an induction stove and oven, microwave, coffee machine and the usual baking implements. I do cook but not particularly creatively so would prefer if I just provide the food (we can talk about what food😊) and you can cook your own. You are welcome to use the laundry facilties, wifi, bbq etc.

    What else ...

As I mentioned earlier, public transport isnt great around here. but is available. Plenty of opportunities to walk or cycle. I live a pretty relaxed lifestyle but some weeks get a bit hectic. Generally go to bed late and rise late but comfortable with others being different. No smoking in the house, house rules are common sense respect for each others space and tidy up after yourself☺

I don't have pets at the moment but the garden is dog proof unless it is a very good escape artist. Cats would need to be indoors to protect native animals.
