Steve is a 68 years young single English guy who has lived on a small farm in lush green Galicia since 2002. He was lucky to have a fabulous life of fun and variety, but hard work enabled him to retire early and live the good life of a peasant, with a few luxuries! He dabbles in self sufficiency, but is not an extremist, essentials like coffeee and whisky are much easier to buy than to produce, after all!
Over the years there have been goats, horses, rabbits and pigs, but 2017 sees about 60 sheep, poultry, cats and a dog called Widget. Most of the food is home produced, including a variety of vegetables.
Work obviously varies with the time of year. It can include planting, tending and harvesting crops; water management; poultry management/feeding, hunting for eggs and plucking roosters; haymaking and storing; bottle feeding of lambs, and shepherding; Walking Widget in the local scenic hills and vallies; house cleaning and renovation; land clearing; firewood production and storing; mushroom and fruit picking; wine and cider making,- and drinking! Those who want the experience can get involved in humane meat production, but no-one is forced to do work they do not want. And every day, there is sheep shit shovelling........
There is normally wifi internet and UK TV, and some wicked card playing! There are NOT bars and discos anywhere near. But Steve does treat workawayers to a restaurant meal once a week.
