What an experience ! A huge TAK to Coralie Anton and their two little sweet kids (without forgetting the cute dog Karu). I started Workaway a year ago in a white paradise in the Yukon, but clearly I have known here another white paradise, Swedish lapland in Vittangi, and an amazing human and cultural exchange ! Thanks a lot for your warm welcome, I felt since day one being part of the family. I understand why Coralie and Anton are part of Workaway, and I am so glad cause they really are what we expect from hosts to be : sharing a lot of stories from this great Swedish north, make you discovering the surroundings and their community and having fun and very good memories ! I coud say I have lived for a few days the Swedish lapland lifestyle ! Thank you for the recommandations (dogsledding, Ice hotel, Kiruna spa), for the daytrip to Kiruna for the snow festival, for the ice-hockey game, for the daytrip to Lannavaara, for your help to arrive and leave from Vittangi/Kiruna and last but not least for the Tuesday innebandy nights ; and for all the time spent together. All the best in your little piece of paradise !

To my lovely friends at Xinzo, apologies for taking so long to write an appreciation note and say thank you for your kindness. From the first moment that I arrived the communication was great, the people were open and they tried to make me feel welcome and create lifetime memories. If you want a unique experience and want to immerse in Galician culture , this is the one. The place is very well organised , the duties , timetable and activities are all respected and communicated well in advance from Janira and the other staff. There was a nice balance between the activities that we had in the schedule and the games that you could recommend. I had the chance to visit the outdoor pool(once per week ), i also delivered wellbeing and activities session with the adults and the kids of the centre, which was a great fun and they were very engaged. We also had a Greek lunch together , the whole team gathered together and everyone helped in preparation in order to enjoy this meal, it was a beautiful moment. Also , I did improve my Galician a lot within this month , which was great. The people keep on talking you in Galician although you seem to not understand which I found it awesome and lovely. Xinzo is a small town centrally located and you can reach other nearby cities with Monbus within couple of hours. If you have a car of course you will be more mobile and be able to explore the region easier. The city itself and the people are very welcoming in and they support this place and the activities a lot, Regarding accommodation , the apartment was nice and spacious with everything that you need inside.(only 5 mins walk to the centre). The rest of volunteers where top notch -sending hugs to my chicas. Muchos Gracias Janira, Olga , Stefi and all the people for the incredible moments, till we mee again!

This has truly been a rewarding experience for me. I learned many things and met wonderful people like Andrew, Shane, and all the staff at the complex, everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming. I carried out artistic activities and supported social media tasks, and it was truly meaningful work for me. I definitely recommend this volunteer experience, and I’m very grateful to Andrew for the opportunity to open the doors of his resort to me. God bless you, Andrew. 🤗❤️

Dear Sarah and Mark, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful and encouraging review. We truly appreciate your kind words and the positive energy you brought to the wetland restoration project in Kasese. Your support in waste collection, community engagement, and discussions with municipal leaders played an important role in advancing the vision for wetland restoration and sustainable tourism. We really valued your ideas, commitment, and the meaningful conversations we shared—along with the laughs 😊. It was a pleasure hosting you, and we’re glad you enjoyed the accommodation and meals. Naboth and the entire team were very happy to be part of your experience. On behalf of Goodman, Moris, Samson, Raimon and the whole project team, thank you once again for your hard work, belief in our mission, and friendship. We wish you safe travels and great success in your future adventures. You will always be welcome back in Kasese. Warm regards, Raimon

An excellent and amazing experience. We highly recommend! First of all, the location is a beautiful natural preserve located along the ocean in a relatively unknown area. It is indeed a very special and unique place. The people here are another asset. Marco is a sincere and committed host who is committed to finding a role for all of his volunteers. The locals and staff are also all very friendly and helpful. But of course, the highpoint is really the wonderful horses: they are beautiful, full of character and wonderful teachers about life. Riding the horses along the beach or the ridges is a truly unique experience, and so is taking care of the horses. We are immensely grateful for the opportunity.

Grazie.

Krishna is a very enthusiastic person and passionate about travelling. He has big dreams that can only be admired. His circumstances are not yet ideal, but he and his family open their home and hearts to foreign visitors. He went to a lot of trouble to fetch me from the bus in the early morning hours. Although very busy with a building project, he took the time to show me around the farming community. I also enjoyed exploring on my own and went for long walks. This WorkAway is excellent exposure to rural India. I went on a family outing with them and saw the Sun Temple of Modhera and the amazing Rank ki Vav Stepwell. This trip was much appreciated, thank you again Krishna. My best wishes for all the plans ahead. I think this will have the potential to become an excellent placement.

I stayed with Blai for about a month last summer. He lives in a truly amazing place, a secluded spot surrounded by forest, but also not too far from the nearby villages. I was mostly helping with the outdoor kitchen/workshop structure he was building and a bit of work on the clay house. The work was very fair and there was always a healthy balance. Blai is a great guy and we became good friends over those few weeks. I also got to meet some of his family and friends who were all really nice. I'd highly recommend staying with Blai, his land is a very special place, and you'll be in good company.

My time with Siİ is one I will never forget! They truly embody the Turkish tradition of being hospitable, inviting, and overall genuinely kind people. Cansu and Evın, the current branch managers, are some of the most dedicated, driven, and hard working women I have ever met! I always felt I had someone I trusted around as they offered assistance and open mindedness when the volunteers were in need. Additionally, the energy they curated at each location really gave the speaking club the vibe that made it what it is. I am forever grateful to Cansu for reaching out to me and giving such an amazing opportunity. After a month and a half, I struggled to leave because of connections I made with them, the students, and my fellow volunteers. The students are down to earth and dedicated people who will insist they treat you Istanbul life such as Çorba ve Ekmek for dinner. Their kindness, focus and desire to become fluent in English inspired me to have more structure and self discipline in learning a second language. Grateful to all the wonderful students I met during my time here :) The living situation was more than ideal for a workaway, being a shared space in a nice apartment that was pretty central to Istanbul! I shared a room with one other person ( men and women were in separate rooms) and shared cleaning with all other volunteers, making the dynamic smooth and conventional. I had the opportunity to explore many neighborhoods of Istanbul including Şişli, Beşiktas, Karakoy, Kadıkoy, Taksim, and more! Honestly, a month and a half was just not enough time to explore such a big city, which is all the more reason to go back :) The Metro bus was a 15-20 minute from the apartment but you could reach local food, cafes, and shops within a 5 minute walk. The budget provided by Siİ for food is plenty if you're thoughtful of your purchases, occasionally leaving you with enough to go to a local restaurant or cafe. If you're a social person who enjoys city life, this is a great opportunity. If and when I find myself back in Istanbul, I will be sure to reach out to Siİ. Thank you all again and I wish you all the best!!!! <3

Sara & Matteo are amazing volunteers on Workaway. They are kind, friendly, and truly dedicated to teaching the children. They always prepare their lessons carefully before each class. The kids enjoy learning with them because they make the activities fun and engaging. They even taught the children how to make pasta, which was a wonderful hands-on experience. Both of them are very helpful and supportive to everyone around them. They also cook incredibly delicious food – we were so lucky to have them. Wishing them all the best in everything they do in the future!

This school is a sacred space where love and discipline flow together in a beautiful harmony. It is more than just a place of learning; it is a family. The children are deeply connected to one another, and the spirit of mutual support is felt in every corner. Their eagerness to learn and explore new things is truly inspiring, and their energy is a reminder of the joy in every moment. If you are considering volunteering here, I encourage you to bring movement into your time with the children – whether through yoga, dance, gymnastics, or any activity that allows them to feel free and present. These activities help cultivate not just the body, but also the mind and spirit. The teachers are incredibly nurturing, welcoming every volunteer with warmth, like a sister joining the circle. Although I spent only two weeks at this school, leaving was not easy. The school creates an environment where you feel truly integrated, and they care deeply for your well-being. I stayed in a nearby hotel, surrounded by nourishing restaurants and a large supermarket. Everything you need is within reach, allowing you to feel fully supported in your journey here. Please note that while the school does not provide meals, you’ll need to bring your own lunch if you wish to spend more time with the children. However, the food here is very affordable, and you won’t find it hard to nourish yourself. This school is a place of light and growth. The children speak English with grace and fluency, and their presence will fill your heart with joy. I offer my deepest gratitude to the director of the school for their unwavering support and loving guidance throughout my time here.

Jaiselmer is an experienced not to be missed on the India route. This WorkAway hotel has a breathtaking view of the fort. It is in a safe and quiet street. It is an advantage to live outside of the fort. The entrance to the fort got so congested that one could hardly enter during the December holidays. The hotel is a quick walk away to have a sunrise coffee at a café on the fort walls. The hotel is artistically decorated and Sammy appreciated my suggestion to renovate the two wooden elephants at the front door. The staff made me feel welcome in the kitchen, where I helped making chapatis with lots of teasing and laughter. The accommodation was excellent and Sammy was generous in offering meals. I was unfortunately there during peak season and a trip to the desert did not materialize. It was easy enough to organize it myself. Hit that heart and put this on your favorites list!

I have stayed at Daniel’s place for three weeks and it is amazing. Although there have been some changes in plans, Daniel was always very flexible and welcoming. Most of my work involved weeding in the back yard, cleaning up at the zocalo and washing the windows. The workload was light and flexible. Daniel is a wonderful cook who prepares different dishes everyday with no repetition, each of them undoubtedly delicious. It’s fun watching all these food being made from scratch and I will always remember the quiche and the pizzas. Also, he has an amazing rice cooker! (It is Asian certified) Music always flows in this family. Some mornings I will just wake up, walk downstairs and find yet another one of their friends visiting and they were jamming together. Daniel and his son, Ezra, also took me to contra dance, where I then grew to love dancing. I have never realized before that dancing can connect you with people in such a short time. English is my second language but Daniel has always been patient with me. We played games to help expand my vocabulary. I also discovered that Ezra and I have so much in common due to our love for anime, rockclimbing and nerdy math problems. We had some fun movie nights together! This is a wonderful place and a family full of love. I would highly recommend it to everyone. Thank you again, Daniel, and best of luck with everything!

I did two Workaways at Petru and Ines’s house. Gardening and carpentry tasks: cleaning beds, taking care of young trees, carpentry, feeding the ducks and geese.
The first time, I mainly worked on carpentry with Petru. It was a great experience: good teamwork, exchange of ideas, working both in a team and independently, which was the perfect balance for me. The second time was more about house-sitting and feeding the animals. I really enjoyed spending time in the garden: cleaning the beds, spotting possible diseases (and of course snails!), and taking care of the soil, bushes and compost. The land is amazing, and there is always something to do: full of trees, well-maintained areas, ponds, animals, and even a wild forest.
The house and apartments are super comfortable and offer a lot of privacy, with lovely terraces. Petru is very friendly, enthousiastic and is able to delegate work easily. He knows a lot about trees, nature, carpentry, which makes him a great work companion.
Ines is incredibly sweet and always ready to help when needed — a lovely mum to everyone! 😉
They both give great advice about daily life and know the area very well. The kids are so sweet, polite, and easy-going once you find the right topic with them. The whole family is discreet, calm, and very easy to live with. During my stay, volunteers used to work only 3 to 4 hours per day, which gives plenty of time to discover beautiful beaches, viewpoints, trails, and lovely towns like Óbidos, Nazaré, Alcobaça, etc. I traveled with my car, which made things easier, but there are also trains, buses, and Bolt/Uber/taxis that allow you to get around quite easily. Tip for travelers: Salir do Porto and the surrounding area are quite touristic, which makes prices (food, supermarkets, bars,…) a bit higher than in more rural areas. I warmly recommend Ines and Petru’s place to anyone who loves working with wood, soil, and nature. It’s an ideal place for families, solo travelers, and couples that seek for privacy and calm. Thanks Ines, Petru and kids for your kindness and help when needed. Hope to meet you again 🌺

I had a lovely time here, I got the chance to stay in a beautiful, rural part of the country and spent some lovely days with some really nice people. I enjoyed cooking and eating together every lunch and dinner and every night the sounds of the jungle are right outside. I had everything I needed and the cats here are the best cats in the world. Thank you to Amir for welcoming me and making sure I was able to get to where I needed.

This Workaway experience exceeded my expectations! Viola is a lovely woman and host. She is genuinely caring, sociable, respectful and very interesting. She has been a volunteer herself which says a lot I think. I felt really safe and comfortable at her place where I got my own private bedroom and all modern amenities in her flat. We shared great conversations, morning coffee and great vibes at her artistic bar. The work is so cool, I met lovely, interesting and sociable local people while behind the bar at Centrala! I had homemade delicious pizza made by Ewa on every shift and I felt really taken care of both at the bar and at Viola's home. She really believes in healthy, fresh ingredients and eating which was a huge plus for me, she almost intuitively knew what foods I like and she bought them for me! Extremely generous of her. I had my own privacy and lots of free time to explore the city and some customers took me exploring the nearby towns and we shared a meal together. The events taking place at the bar are really successful, with great vibes and quite big crowds attending, I thoroughly enjoyed the variety of events, the great atmosphere and laid back energy while at work. Viola patiently showed me how to prepare the most common requests and I got to practice some Polish with the locals although there was no real language barrier as most of her customers speak very good English. I am really lucky and grateful for this opportunity and I am forever thankful to Viola for hosting me this past few weeks!
