I spent an amazing month with Jane, Rob, and the adorable Maddie between February and March 2026. The house, nestled in the peaceful countryside near Melbourne, was the perfect escape from the city’s chaos, surrounded by nature, calm, and fresh air. From day one, Jane and Rob welcomed me like family. They were incredibly kind, supportive, and always available. They also invited me to join their friends and explore some lovely local places, which made my stay even more enjoyable. My daily tasks were varied and fair: caring for and walking Maddie, feeding Tibbles the royal cat, Penny the duck, and the chickens, checking that everyone was healthy, and helping out with housekeeping, gardening, and a few odd jobs around the property. My room was cozy, clean, and comfortable, and the meals were always delicious and generous. I highly recommend this host to anyone looking for peace, animal care experience, and genuine Aussie hospitality. Thank you so much for this month, I already miss Maddie!

My experience with Lautaro was amazing! We were only able to stay a week but we had an amazing time. The work was all over the place in a good way, from chopping wood/picking berries to loading and unloading a washer on to an ox pulled cart. Rupanco is an amazing place with beautiful views, and an awesome community. We worked for 4 hours or less a day and spent the rest of the day enjoying the scenery and relaxing. My one recommendation is to bring a bit of food if you're a big eater as it's hard to get food to the property as it is only boat access. Lautaro welcomed us warmly and shared his amazing home, as well as welcomed us into the Rupanco community. Couldn't recommend enough if you're interested in sustainable living and community building!

I stayed with them for over a week because I kept coming back to see them and spend time together ! They are such an extraordinary family, lovely and charming, a very welcoming family where I immediately felt at home so far to my country. They offer advice and guidance for your adventure, go out with them as a family and enjoy the Kiwi life. I had my own bedroom with bathroom and such amazing house with view! It was a little sad to leave. I look forward to seeing you again soon. Thank you so much for the wonderful time with you.

I spent six weeks here and it was one of my favorite Workaways ever! That is saying a lot because I've been to some really good ones. The herd is amazing. I would go out every day and brush them, play music with them (they like classical and country), talk to them - or just do nothing except Share Territory with them. I learned so much about horses and herd dynamics. I also got one of the most unique experiences of Galapagos in the world. A friend of mine was in the Galapagos at the same time as a tourist and comparing our experiences - they were worlds far apart. Mine was like a dream. Claudia's horse sanctuary is one of a kind anywhere. You will experience local Galapagos culture. If you speak Spanish, you can learn more; mine is limited but I still was able to communicate with other people using Google Translate. Claudia's English is impeccable. She is German. I did house cleaning - your house you stay in is big, and so are the rooms. With the windows open all the time (the most enjoyable way to experience), it gets dusty all the time. It's a really nice facility and everything you need is right there. The big tourist hot spot, Puerto Ayora, is a 30-minute bus ride away, $1 each way, where you can buy tourist souvenirs and food and travel to other islands. I also watered and monitored the horses daily. They need and welcome socialization with humans. Even in the pouring rain, we were sometimes out managing the horses. They need daily care, no matter the weather. Claudia has boots of all sizes that you will need. I got a lot of use out of my umbrella, too. I was there during rainy season. Remember that you are in a developing country, Ecuador, and things happen accordingly. Sometimes the electricity will go out for everybody, but usually not for very long. Sometimes the internet or the water also goes out. Again, this advice goes for every developing country that I've been to. There are no words that can express the fantastic experience I had and it's my ambition to find a way to come back again. You will have a friend for life with Claudia. <3

Sofia stayed with us for a long time and was really nice to have as a workawayer. Her english skills were great and she was a really hard worker. She cooked us some amazing italian meals and even gave us her pizza dough recipe for which we are very grateful. She often worked longer than was expected of her and was happy to help out around the house and garden when needed.

Edwina was kind enough to host me last minute. The setting is beautiful. I stayed at what is their holiday home and was given a generous load of groceries to tackle the overgrown lawns for a week. The job was great. It was picking up sticks, whipper snipping and mowing, with the birds looking for bugs around you as you work. The husqarna zero turn mower is great. It has been crashed on concrete structures by the street so they don't want it taken out that gate. The whipper snipper had no oil in it (4 stroke) when I arrived, so watch this and chuck one of the old towels under it if you put it on the garage floor. It's cord goes on following the LH arrow. (The little Ozito chainsaw that doesn't have brushless on its motor case leaks badly, avoid that). The red mower is cool to, if they get the starter sorted it will smoke a little at start-up because I put too much oil in topping it up. Clean linen and decent vacuum cleaners don't seem to be the highest priority. Edwina can seem stiff on initial messages, but becomes friendly once you meet and work progresses. If you have limited experience try and show up when her brother Warrick is around he does a lot of mowing and can answer questions. If you are closer to your twenties, hip and worldly then her kids would be cool to hang out with. Her dad talks a lot. Then once everything is done you can walk down the stairs and swim in Lake Macquarie. Overall tidying up four acres of lawn was a fun project.

Julia was a lovely addition to our family and fitted right in. She was hardworking and got stuck into working in our garden, cleaning it up and making it look amazing. She was very flexible, considerate and went out of her way to do extra things without being asked such as completing household chores. Being a child educator, she was awesome with our young daughter who adored her. She taught her some songs and games that we will continue. Julia would be welcome back at our place any time.

Hi everyone, For about two weeks I stayed at Sonia's place. I really enjoyed my time here; the work was pleasant, the food & accommodation was good. And most important of all, Sonia and Max are such kind and welcoming people. Sonia is also an AMAZING cook. (I NEED that curry recepy! ;) ) I was very happy with this WorkAway experience. If you love dogs, you will enjoy working here for sure. Thanks to Sonia and Max! cheers

I stayed at the Institute in Cuenca for two weeks, and it was a wonderful experience. Carolina, the contact person, was extremely helpful and always responded quickly to my questions. She made sure everything was ready before I arrived — even buying the breakfast items I needed — and whenever something came up, they were always happy to help. It was my first time teaching English, so I was a bit nervous at first, but there was really no reason to be. The students are kind, respectful, and very motivated to learn. I had a lot of freedom to organize my classes in the way I preferred, and the schedule was flexible and adjusted to accommodate my needs. Teaching students ranging from beginner level to C1 was both fun and rewarding. The location of the institute is also very convenient. It’s about a 25-minute walk to the historic center and the cathedral, and there are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. There are also several parks close to the institute, which is great if you enjoy working out or spending time outside. I honestly don’t have anything negative to say. The only small thing worth mentioning is that one of the volunteer rooms is a bit small, though it’s perfectly fine for a short stay. The staff and students are incredibly kind and a pleasure to work with. I hope to come back someday, and I would definitely recommend this volunteer experience.

I had such an amazing, but unfortunately short, 2 weeks staying with Dominik and his horses. Dominik is such a great guy, very kind and always making sure everything was going well! He taught me anything i needed to know and didn't and even some stuff i didn't need but wanted to know:) Getting to spend time with the horses was so great, they are incredibly gentle considering their size and always curious of what your doing and if they can nibble on it! The work isn't hard and there's plenty of time to do stuff you want to do, or just to chill. I really enjoyed my stay here and i very much recommend it!

Kay and Maxime helped in different areas of abbey life, especially in the park and in the kitchen, as well as with some other indoor and outdoor tasks. They were flexible and generally open to discovering the life and rhythm of the place. Kay also showed a real interest in learning French, which created some nice moments of exchange. Their stay was an opportunity for them to discover a new environment and way of life.

Alexandra stayed with us for a few weeks and it was a joy to have her around. She did different services with enthusiasm and an open heart, always attentive to others and often showing initiative. She take care finishing what she starts and works with care. She particularly enjoyed working in the park and helping with milking the cows. Thanks Alexandra for your help and your beautiful energy !

I had such a wonderful time at the farmhouse, memories of which will warm my heart for years to come. Not only did I meet a lot of great people who were a pleasure to be around but I also had an opportunity to reflect on my life while enjoying beautiful nature. Furthermore, I learnt new skills and plenty of interesting facts about the local way of life. Vielen Dank, Irene & Ruedi, Rosmarie & Peter! Bis bald!

Teuni and Pim stayed with us for a month and we did so much while they were with us. Lots of different projects, they were fast learners and got stuck into whatever needed doing. We enjoyed evening meals, nights around the bonfire with our neighbours and they helped with our Halloween party too. They stayed in our gite with their well behaved collie and left it absolutely spotless! Highly recommend them to other hosts!

We spent two weeks with Nano and the community at this place. It was such a pleasure and Nano really went above and beyond to make our time there the best we could have. We mentioned we like dancing, so he organised that we even danced salsa and bachata all together :) The neighbourhood is quiet and comfortable and the other volunteers were also very kind and sociable. The place Nano is creating feels like an oasis and we would love to come back. Muchas gracias por todo! 💞

Nico is probably the most generous person we met in our ten months of traveling. He is an amazing cook, and we shared many meals and fun days together in Puerto Natales. The hostel is like a second home, very warm and cozy. Many guests love it so much that they extend their stay and become a part of the family for a little while as well. The work was fun, mostly keeping the place clean and checking the guests in and out. Anyone would be lucky to be a volunteer here and get to know both Nico and the hostel! We would love to return one day:) Much love Nico!!

Aki came to my farm in November 2025 and stayed for over four months. He was a wonderful person to have around, positive, hardworking, easy to talk to and always resourceful. He fit in very well at home and was a real pleasure to have as part of daily life and in the household. He was great with animals, skilled with practical tasks and always willing to help. I have only good things to say about Aki and I would warmly recommend him to anyone thinking of welcoming him into their home.
