We loved having Tomi with us — he was a great person to have as part of the team. We had a range of different tasks to complete before opening our hotel, including general labour, cleaning, and setting things up. Tomi approached everything with diligence, efficiency, and a really positive attitude. The other staff also really enjoyed working with him, and he fit in very well with the team. We’d happily host him again and can definitely recommend him to other hosts.

Abi from the USA slotted into our family like we had known her for years. She was such a lovely person to have around that we actually didn’t want her to leave! She naturally helped out around the house without ever needing to be asked — jumping in to help with dishes, washing, and everyday jobs. Abi also came along to lots of family activities and events with us and the kids, including Halloween trick-or-treating, which was such a fun memory. She even helped us at a market we were running by making crafts and lending a hand on the day. On top of that, she helped us with some editing work in Adobe, which was a huge help. Abi brought such an easy, positive energy into our home and truly felt like part of the family while she was here. Abi, you can always come back and live with us anytime! Im glad we could take you on the boat and you could catch your first FISH!!!!!!!!! Thank you for everything, and we hope all is going well for you back in the USA. We can’t wait to visit you one day. Much love from Jacinda, Jason, Harlem, Kora and Sonnyjoe

Mark from the USA was such a kind soul and a wonderful workaway and guest to have with our whānau. He spent a lot of time helping us out at the marae with weeding and other jobs, and he was always happy to lend a hand wherever it was needed. Around the house he was great to have — always willing to learn new skills and get stuck in. While he was here he even learnt how to use the whipper snipper! Mark was also very easy to take along to family events and visits. He wasn’t shy to spark up conversations and connect with people, which made him a really natural fit with our wider whānau. The kids absolutely loved having Mark around. He is incredibly talented with Lego and would spend hours building and playing games with them right up until bedtime. He also spent lots of time jumping on the trampoline with Harlem until it got dark. One thing that really showed Mark’s kind nature was that he even left a few useful items from his self-contained car for us when he left, which we thought was incredibly thoughtful. Thank you Mark for being such a positive part of our home. We hope the rest of your travels have been amazing. Much love from Jacinda, Jason, Harlem, Kora and Sonnyjoe

My stay with Paul and Barb was my first as a WorkAway. Their home is in an exceptional place, and experiencing a tiny taste of what it is like to live off road and in a unique area of geography - very special. Paul and Barb are warm generous people who are experienced hosts. They work hard and also both have a great capacity for fun and relaxation which they share very freely. I helped out with tidying and sorting the greenhouse, sowing seeds, other gardening tasks alongside Barb and Paul, did a sanding and painting job, weed deadheading (more significant than it might sound!) and helped clear the track of stones. I had a beautiful morning kayak trip, and a few swims which I loved. The healthy and tasty dinners - an absolute bonus. It was unforgettable stay for me , and a great privilege to be included in Paul and Barb's life for 8 days.

Christina was a big help here on our little farm and especially in the kitchen. Her fun and upbeat personality made her stay with us a pleasure and memorable. We even celebrated Chinese New Year with her and our Chinese neighbors . Christina made all the decorations. We wish her all the best on her adventure!

Dominik stayed with us for two weeks and helped with a lot of different projects, from concreting , and building work, setting up a kitset shed, to house and animal sitting when we were away for a weekend. We got to know him as an open easy to connect with person. We can highly recommend Dominik to other hosts as a skilled, and very reliable workawayer. He fitted in well with everyone who was staying with us. We wish Dominik well for the remainder of his trip.

It was a pleasure to have Parris and Zach stay with us for the week. They are warm, easygoing guests with a great sense of humour who were fantastic to have around, and it was a joy sharing meals, conversations, and a few games together. Zach cooked some delicious meals during his stay – we were very happy taste-testers for his chef ambitions! He also did a great job reorganising the garage and shed, which was a huge work and help. Parris worked her magic indoors, reorganising cupboards and helping paint parts of the greenhouse we’re putting together. Big projects again. Both of them were proactive, thoughtful, and happy to lend a hand wherever it was needed. They quickly became an integral part of the household! We’d happily welcome them back anytime.

the work itself was enjoyable. most days, I rode more than once. the trail rides with guests were great, through sandy conifer forests, open beach, and tops of sand dunes! the horses are all fun to ride. I became familiar with the traditional Uruguayan riding style. getting the horses from the fields could sometimes be a pain because some would not let themselves be caught. there were times I spent hours trying to catch one horse. work would usually start between 7-9am and would not end until 6-8pm. I was regularly working 10-12 hour days, which they did not inform me would be the case before I came. additionally, I had to advocate for myself to even get ONE day off a week, while their profile promises 2 days off a week. they told me by asking for a day off (in order to explore the area outside of the ranch), that I must not be happy working there, and that previous volunteers never asked for days off. this was ridiculous in my mind, as the whole point of Workaway is as an exchange. indeed, the volunteer I overlapped with for a few days at the start told me that in her 2.5 months working there, she only got FOUR days off! the casita is pretty bad. there is only one layer of wooden shingles between you and the outside, with many cracks and holes in it. it leaks when it rains. many bugs and ants would get in. a brood of big beetles appeared when I was there, and there would be sometimes over 20 beetles flying around the casita each night. also little frogs would get in, and once even a snake. they do offer a mosquito net to cover the bed, but somehow I still had beetles crawling on me at night multiple times. there is a hot shower, stove, kettle, sink, and air frier. overall, I left a month and a half early because I was lonely being the only volunteer and because I could not deal with the casita anymore after a month.

I stayed 2 weeks here and it was the most amazing work away I could imagine to find. The kangaroos literaly become your everyday best friends : they sit on the couch, ask for cuddles and make the cutiest sound when they drink their bottles. As a volunteer, the work is mainly about feeding the kangoroos, cleaning the areas and also some other little chores. Manfred's place is surrounded by luxurioux nature where you can spot many wildlife animals as possums, birds, walabis or wombats. I had a great time cooking vegetarian dishes, discovering vegan food and chating with the other volunteers around a glass of wine...or cranberry juice. Indeed Manfred has been particulary helpful and patient, as I had some health issues. I wish I could stay more in this little paradise. Thank you for the warm welcome and for the work you do for the wildlife. See you one day if I come back in Australia 🦘🫶

I'm really grateful to have had the opportunity to have met and worked with Fulmar and the rest of her family. I'm going to miss the Sierra Nevadas and am excited to potentially visit again in the future.

It was a great pleasure to have Maria with us. From the very beginning, she was attentive to the daily work routines and was able to take care of the animals independently and reliably from very early on. Maria's handling of the animals was consistent and at the same time very friendly. She also helped us with gardening, trimming bushes and stacking wood. Thanks to Maria's careful storage, we still have very tasty walnuts. We were also repeatedly spoiled with cooked or baked treats. Her most significant work was redesigning our ageing front door. After sanding and glazing it, she transformed the door into a beautiful eye-catcher with her creative skills. We would be delighted to see her again.

I had the best times at Mandfreds place. Manfred is very sweet and welcoming in his very own way, a little chaotic in moments but thats what makes it the unique experience you won't find anywhere else. He's a great musician, playing the flute and the tuba almost daily. I liked his way of welcoming many people in an uncomplicated way. I met many nice characters. Nothing was expected but everything was great with the right dose of anarchy, freedom and creativity. I hope to be back someday!

This was a very special workaway, one that I was very sad to leave. I spent a wonderful three weeks volunteering at the language institute assisting teachers in their classes and having the occasional conversational class online. I was initially a little bit nervous as I don't speak Spanish and have no formal teaching background, but it didn't matter, the teachers were incredibly supportive, and students were excited to have the chance to practice their English with a real living breathing native English speaker. Eduin was a big part of why this experience was so wonderful, he was always checking in to make sure I felt comfortable or to see if I needed anything, he helped organise excursions to nearby towns and attractions, places not often visited by non-Colombian tourists. I felt incredibly safe here, the town of Mariquita is quaint, and the locals are friendly. It can get quite humid during the day, though the apartment and classrooms are all equipped with fans. I really enjoyed the classes, the teachers are very professional, kind and passionate. The students ranged in age from three years old right through to adults of all ages. I was genuinely inspired by the hard work the students put into learning English, it really inspired me on my own slow journey to learning Spanish. The accommodation is clean and comfortable, there's a supermarket very close to the apartment and there are even Spanish lessons available to take. I really treasure my experience here and would love to come back and volunteer again, if I'm back in Colombia. I would recommend this workaway to others. Thank you Eduin for giving me the opportunity to volunteer at your institute.

Jess and James were a great help to me during a busy and chaotic time. It was invaluable to host a trustworthy mature couple, to keep up with the daily chores, look after the animals and ensure that the house ran smoothly. Many odd jobs and repairs were also sorted out and a fun painting project that is definitely one of James super talents. I enjoyed Jess and James company, they are interesting and fun people to have around. I will look forward to future fires and good conversations. And lets not forget Bailey, who is a good boy and did really well to adjust in a large pack of dogs here. Thanks J n J for all the help and support I hope ye are having Happy onward Travels. X L

The work is fun and not stressful, Sophia explains everything regarding work or if you need anything else. I got the chence to meet other workawayers and we had a lot of fun. The area is close to the Ostsee as well. The food is healthy and tastes good. Thank you

I forgot to leave a review when I visited very briefly last spring but it was a lovely first workaway experience! The place feels like such a special hidden gem and I had so much fun with the two other travellers that were there at the time! Thank you Eric and Russell for the kind hospitality and souveniers, I hope I can come back for longer someday :)
