Natalya spent several months with us at the sanctuary, and she was an absolute gem. It is rare to find a volunteer who combines high-level technical competence with such genuine, deep-seated empathy for animals. She didn't just "do the work" she truly looked out for every animal here as if they were her own. As a vet her knowledge of animal care is extensive. She went above and beyond daily, particularly with environmental enrichment - making sure the animals were mentally engaged and happy, not just fed and cleaned. She also tackled the massive job of sorting and cataloguing our medication supplies, a detail-oriented task she handled perfectly. As a self-starter, she understands complex instructions immediately, you never have to tell her twice. Beyond the work, Natalya is a lovely person to have around. She is friendly, easy-going, and brought a wonderful energy to the sanctuary. A personal highlight for us was her special bond with the pigs - she absolutely adored them, and seeing that connection was a joy for everyone. We were incredibly lucky to have her. She is hardworking, highly competent, and genuinely cares. We would take her back in a heartbeat.

We absolutely loved hosting the K family, Keisuke, Kurumi, Kyosuke (Zac) and Konoka (Conny), and wish they could have stayed longer than the month they were with us. They were incredibly organised, thoughtful, conscientious, considerate and self motivated, and worked very well both independently and as a team. They all helped us with so many aspects of farm and home life including gardening, fencing, chickens, dogs, tractor work, mulching, painting, cleaning, tidying, baking and K was amazing with helping to construct our chicken caravan. Whatever was happening on the farm, they were involved and willing to help. The kids were fantastic, kind and helpful, and a joy to have around. They all played so well together, almost became like siblings. Zac and Conny helped so much in the garden, watering, growing seeds, protecting the tomatoes, weeding, helping me with dog training, and especially with Daisy's bandage changes and organising the study. Alannah enjoyed learning from Conny how to crochet, and she is now making a necklace for Pig. The kids also enjoyed spending time in the kitchen cooking, and also in the paddock with the horses together, it was beautiful to see their skills and confidence grow. We have so many treasured memories from their stay. We really enjoyed sharing a slice of farm life with your family, and spending time getting to know you all. We cannot thank you enough for everything you contributed and would highly recommend you to other hosts. We truly hope our paths cross again in the future and next time, as Alannah says, you will have to stay 88 days!

The workaway experience John and Micaëla provide at their gorgeous chateau goes absolutely above and beyond! What a wonderful two weeks I spent here, filled with fun, laughter, incredible food, even more incredible people, and work that was well suited to me and my skill set. If you're looking for more of a "family style" experience where you get lots of social & connection time with others, you are confident and you know how to take initiative- this is the right spot for you :) Thank you SO much John and Micaëla! I hope to see you both again, either in France or back in California <3

Guram is a kind, very friendly, relaxed, and calm guy. His work was perfect and helped me a lot in continuing my project with the New Campaign. He shared his time with the other three American guys, and I'm sure they had a lot of fun in their free time, too. He was also very nice with my three parrots. He's a calm guy who always performs the tasks assigned to him perfectly. I highly recommend him and hope to see him again in the future, even as a friend. I hope that the continuation of his journey in the future will be as wonderful as the days we spent together in Trieste. A hug and thank you for everything, for your help, and for your kindness. grazie Ciao Massimo

Our experience with Purcell was excellent, he is a very passionate gardener, loves getting his hands and feet into the soil. Has a lot of experience and knowledge about regenerative gardening and soil health. He always showed up on time and was ready to get started with whatever was needed in the garden. He was also very playful, and interactive with our daughter of 2 & half years at the time of his visit, singing, playing, etc. He has a big heart and a lot to share, he just needs to feel comfortable in a good environment to blossom. He taught me the basics of playing chess and we spent every moment learning and enjoying from each other.

It was lovely to have Maya staying with us. She was extremely good with our boys, helped in the gardens and orchards a lot and makes yummi food. We had some really good conversations about life and it was special to learn more from hearing about her experiences in life. She’s very independent and was always very respectful of our space and schedules. We hope you get to experience the best of New Zealand and make some amazing memories on your way. Thank you for all your help. Big hugs

I stayed in Costa Rica working for Mackenzie for 3 months in 2025! She runs a small homeschool out of her house with expat students. I taught English and Math during my stay. The curriculum is very clear so there wasn’t any confusion, but you also are given creative liberty as a teacher to adapt to student needs and focus on the process in addition to the outcome. The care Mackenzie has for her students and the students for one another was evident from the very beginning. It was such a fun and welcoming environment that encompassed the best elements of school: community, conversation, and creativity, while still maintaining expectations of effort and respect on all sides. Once a week I also had the chance to teach ESL to locals. This was such a nice and rewarding evening activity and one that I always miss when looking back. Learning a new language can be intimidating but Mackenzie does an amazing job creating a warm environment by setting up coffee and cookies for students and incorporating lots of games. In your free time off of work, you can enjoy being in a natural paradise. Nosara is a great place to be if you love nature. It is home to some of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. There are options to hike and explore on your own. In Guiones, there are incredible restaurants and coffee shops and I had some of the best food I have ever had! Mackenzie taught me how to surf and also took me to yoga classes. She also inspired me to lean further into my creative passions, and I found myself naturally spending lots of time painting, drawing, and writing. I am so grateful for the conversations we shared. This is a very wonderful opportunity to learn about yourself and grow while meeting some amazing people and being a part of something special.

Thank you for the great experience! I enjoyed my stay a lot. I learned new things about the garden, the chickens and about a healthy kitchen. I really liked the walks in the beautiful forest and I was really lucky to see a lot of wild animals too!! Greetings Nora

I had an incredible experience at the Sanctuary and I would go back with no hesitation. This is such a great opportunity to be involved with something that matters, and makes a difference for so many animals. Noah and Patty are incredible hosts, and it was really an honor to be able to help with their mission in any way. At this Workaway you’ll be able to help with feeding and taking care of over 120 animals and make a genuine difference for the animals, as well as assisting with the goals for the property, and the overall mission. It was so great to be in a vegan environment, and be able to cook for people each night to learn new recipes and new ideas that I will keep with me. This was such a gratifying experience for me, and I highly recommend it! I’m really so grateful for my time here and I miss it already :( I will always have such great memories to look back on, and I am so thankful. We also had so many incredible game nights. It was such a pleasure to get to know the other volunteers too, who I will hopefully get to see again. Thank you so much for having me, and I wish you all the best!

i loved the opportunity of housesitting such a pretty and peaceful house. the family was very understanding and available. i’ve had the chance to meet people staying in the homestay before meeting lê’s family, so i got to communicate and exchange with a lot of different people. i’ve learned a lot about the vietnamese culture. in the week i was by myself and the village isn’t really lively. its quiet, full of nature and it has all the convenience one needs (and a very cute garden coffee shop!).

Jordan and Jack arrived with a friendly smile, a respectful manner and loads of knowledge and energy! Regardless of the tasks - fertilise and top dress the lawn, empty the (very large) compost pile onto the garden, constant "leaf patrol", demolish back verandah, fix the back fence, chainsaw wood for the wood pile ... & more! - they were diligent with their work and my tools and always went above and beyond. Jordan and Jack were perfect WorkAways in every way ... except that they learned, surpassed & beat me at Rummikubs! I would highly recommend welcoming Jordan and Jack into your home as WorkAways :)

I spent several weeks at Yael's farm. She was very kind and considerate, and an excellent cook. I was treated like royalty. If you want to spend some time in a relaxed and friendly environment, don't hesitate to contact her; I highly recommend her.

This was my first Workaway experience, and I immediately felt comfortable and at home with them. From the very beginning, they gave me such a warm welcome that it honestly felt less like volunteering and more like visiting friends. We shared lots of fun moments together like a trip through Vancouver and cozy movie nights that made the stay extra special. But fair warning! Hilarie is an amazing cook, and once you taste her food, you might never want to leave . And then there’s Charlie the sweetest cuddle expert on four paws, who walks politely on the leash and will absolutely steal your heart. I can truly recommend staying with them. It’s the kind of place where you arrive as a volunteer and leave feeling like part of the family.
