    Welcome Travellers / Hi everyone

    What we do:
we run a no-profit organisation taking care of neglected and abandoned animals, mostly cats and dogs, in South-West of Sardinia. We rescued, spayed/neutered and rehomed more than 400 dogs and cats in the last 15 years. We managed to set up local programs to control dogs & cats population that means much less puppies starving around. We run a shelter and a family house WITH NO CAGES: animals live by their own across the properties which is fully fenced. They are free to do almost everything they like and sleep where they like, inside or outside the house. They live in harmony between them and with us.

We also run a fruit garden and a vegetable garden. We make our own olive oil, and local traditional liquor, Mirto, in both white and classic black kind. We welcome to all travellers and nomads around but we mainly look for volunteers to share experiences with and to create a sponsor community for our animals to be rehomed. We strongly need to find a home to those who still have a chance, otherwise we cannot help others. We usually free from municipality kennels 4/5 old dogs/year, but we need more adoptions to breathe.

    What you can do:
    - help us with daily activities for the dogs and cats (walking the dogs around, walking the dogs on the beach, vet visits, feeding and cleaning cats, cleaning cat's house, feeding dogs)
    - help us with general and DIY tasks in the property
    - help us with agricultural works
    - help us organising events (fundraising, food raising events, book presentations, festivals)
    - help us with promotional activities for adoptions, sharing photos and videos

We kindly appreciate an email as first contact, we'll send you a brief interview where you can explain your interests to get in touch and have a quick chat.

    How to reach us:
approx 35km/45 minutes from the golden coast of the island, where beaches are wild and there's not that much of mankind. The nearest railway station (where we can pick you up) is 10 minutes by car from our place and 20 minutes by train to/from Cagliari Airport.
If you travel by car/camper/van is 45 minutes from Cagliari and 2 hours and half from Olbia and Porto Torres where you can arrive by ferries.
There's also a large bus network connecting almost every village on the island.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please understand we can't offer long term volunteering accomodation on summer for the following reasons:
    - Due to extremely hot summer seasons activities are very poor, animals spend the whole day searching for a cool place, beaches are off for dogs in summer and traveling with dogs around (even for a short walk) is not fair.
    - Agricultural and DIY jobs are shortened
We can offer a maximum of 10 days until the end of September.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

The biggest reward for the volunteer is the happiness to save a life, the satisfaction to feel that our actions make a huge difference in the life of animals that would eitherwise die for sickness or human's neglect. Our activities with animals include a level of spiritual and empathic sharing with them and with us as well. Our animals are a family and they are able to accept and include newcomers both animals and humane.

Plus, guests will have the opportunity to discover italian and sardinian languages, and the ancient history of this part of the island. They may visit nuragic sites, the nearest is about 30km from our place. During off-work hours and after dinner we can share time togheter outside the main house patio or, during winter times, in front of our ancient juniper chimney.

We're working to have aircon in the flat as soon as possible.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We understand that rescuing is not for everyone and we would like only volunteers that are really motivated to apply. Rescuing is a roller-coaster. It can be hard and heartbreaking at times, but also extremely rewarding when a dog finds a forever home.

When you're off you can do what you like. If you're with your own car or van you can discover beautiful beaches of Costa Verde, dunes, lakes, nuragic sites, traditional villages or cities like Cagliari, Sassari, Oristano, Alghero or Olbia. If you travel by train+plane you can visit villlages on the railway's network, reaching Cagliari in 20 minutes, Oristano in 30 minutes, Sassari in 4 hours and Olbia in 3 hours and half. There's also a large bus network connecting almost every village on the island.

You can bring your dog if you want if she/he's able to share spaces and to stay in a large group of dogs. (unfortunately we DO NOT accept pit bulls and similiar dogs).
