Description
Dear Workaway community, we are Veronica and Riccardo. We are both Italians, Veronica from the lower part of Piedmont and Riccardo originally from Sicily. We met in Amsterdam, where we have lived for the past 8 years. We find ourselves in a crucial moment of our lives, where we are deeply questioning our priorities, our vision for the future, and our understanding of this moment in history, as well as the paths that brought us here.
We are envisioning a different direction for our lives; we are both quitting our corporate jobs, and we are imagining a future where community and nature become predominant aspects of our day-to-day lives. Veronica's latest working experience was at the University of Rotterdam as Marketing Officer, and Riccardo has been working as Project Manager in a software development agency. In the last couple of years, we have slowly changed our habits and have got closer to nature: Riccardo has spent a few months volunteering in regenerative and permaculture farms between Portugal and Italy, and recently got certified both as a permaculture designer as well as a regenerative practitioner; Veronica has also attended a couple of courses in permaculture and homesteading. We both volunteer and participate as harvesters in a community support agriculture project on the outskirts of Amsterdam.
While we cherish the steps that we have taken so far to change our perspective and routine, we feel we need a proper, immersive and meaningful change of pace. That's why we are planning to travel for 1 year in South America, starting from Brazil, where we plan to stay at least 3 months from March 2026. We travel with the intention of offering our time, skills, labour and energy to local communities and initiatives that are built around ecological and social regeneration. We are interested to learn and practising natural ways of farming, innovative and indigenous techniques of designing food production, and experiencing governance practices for resilient futures.
---
We want to experience Workaway because we believe the most important lessons aren't found in books, but in the soil and in community. We are learning the theory, and we want to deepen the practice while exploring South America (Abya Yala), as well as its stewards. We're tired of looking at a screen and want to feel the ache in our muscles at the end of a day spent doing work that matters, work that feeds people and heals the land.
We're looking for companions in this journey, not just hosts. We want to be part of the daily flow of a place, to learn not just how to plant a seed, but how to build a consensus, resolve a conflict, and share a life built around common values, not just convenience. We see Workaway as a reliable way to plan this endeavour and to meet beautiful souls along the way.
