Description
The village is a 4 acre property located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, surrounded by 3 mountain ranges and just outside the town boundaries of Golden, BC. We have a large garden, a few air bnbs and we're working on a farm stand / gift shop this summer. We are a family of 3 with a 9 year old son. My husband is the Fire Chief in town and loves showing people how they can be more Firesmart at home. I have an online business where I sell superfood drink products. I mainly work from home.
Our family loves building community, staying active and eating healthy. We speak French and English and a bit of Japanese and Spanish! -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
I am a permaculture master gardener and love to share my skills with budding growers! I speak English, French and Spanish and my husband speaks a bit of Japanese. We often have village potluck dinners with our friends who live near the land with us. We love meeting new people and learning their stories. On days off, there are many many places to explore in the area for hiking, biking, swimming, climbing, camping, rafting, sight-seeing, kayaking, etc. Often however, these places require a plan and a vehicle to get to. We can help you coordinate plans and link up with others wanting to go on similar adventures.

Help
We're looking for some extra hands to help us cultivate a pollinator friendly garden, build some forest paths and clear wood for chopping and wildfire prevention. We would also love help with general maintenance and landscaping. My husband and I are often around tending to the land and garden but we also have other jobs that will need our attention. So part of the job may be doing tasks together and other times it may be solo.
Our son is currently on summer break and will be going into French immersion in the fall. It would be a bonus if you speak French because we want to help him build his language skills.
We have 2 cabins that we Airbnb and we also have a little farm stand. Those are managed by other people but you may run into guests every now and then. We do not expect our workaways to do anything related to the cabins or the farm stand, we just like to inform them that multiple activities are constantly happening on the land. -

I speak French but my son is just learning and plans to start a French immersion program in the fall. So it would be a real pleasure to have a French speaking person on site. -
Accommodation
We have a small personal lodging called "the Bunkhouse" where you will have a cozy double bed and some furnishings to call your own. We welcome solo travelers or couples. There is an outhouse nearby. We provide a bar fridge, toaster, kettle, French press and other small items so you can prepare your own breakfast. Lunch and dinner will be provided in our home, but we really appreciate cooking together or taking turns cooking as part of the cultural exchange. You'll have access to the washroom and shower facilities as well as laundry in our home. The "bunkhouse" has a little firepit, twinkly lights, a seating area and a place to park a car if needed. WIFI is spotty at the bunkhouse, but you can use the WIFI at our house anytime.

What else ...
There will be lots of outside time so come prepared with layered clothing for a variety of weather conditions including, rain, heat and mosquitoes!!! There are so many sites to see on your days off including checking out the Golden Skybridge (a few 100 meters away from our place!), or going to see nearby waterfalls like Thompson Falls or Wapta Falls, or swimming at Cedar Lake or hiking to Gorman Lake. Emerald Lake and Field are 30 mins away. Banff is 1.5 hours away and Lake Louise is 45 mins away, so there are lots of wonderful places to see. Radium Hot Springs is 1hr away too. One other thing to note is that we have a cute senior dog who is deaf and 16 years old. There are other dogs that roam in the area who are very kind. If you are allergic to dogs however, this may not be the perfect stay for you!
