  • Description

    Description

We are a small, emerging non-profit initiative called Mitusu Oasis, based in a rural area between Madrid and Guadalajara, Spain.

Our intention is to create spaces for learning, connection, and community, exploring more sustainable and regenerative ways of living. We are at an early stage of the project, currently listening to the needs of the local community and starting to organise workshop about permaculture, giving language clases and having monthly gatherings with interested people to help each other.

We are especially inspired by themes such as environmental education, natural building, appropriate technology, community building, creativity, and simple, nature-based living.

This is not a finished project, but something that is growing step by step, with care and intention. We value openness, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas, and we see Workaway as a beautiful opportunity to connect with people who feel called to be part of this process.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Depending on your interests and experience, you may have the opportunity to learn about permaculture and more regenerative ways of living — including gardening, natural building, and simple, nature-based lifestyles.

Beyond practical skills, we also value the human side of the experience: living together, communication, collaboration, personal responsibility, and self-reflection. We see this as a space for learning not only how to do things, but also how to be together.

We are a Spanish-Slovenian couple, used to living and working with people from different cultures. We really enjoy cultural exchange — from conversations and shared perspectives to food and everyday life.

In terms of language, Marina speaks Spanish, French and English fluently (and understands some Italian and Portuguese), and Jošt speaks Slovenian, English, Spanish and Serbo-Croatian. Depending on your language, this can make communication easier and richer.

We live on a 2,400 m² piece of land in a quiet and quite remote area. Life here is simple and connected to nature. There are not many nearby attractions (except for the river which is nearby and you can enjoy nice walks by it) , but we are less than 100 km from Madrid, with a direct bus (351) that allows you to explore the city and experience Spanish culture more widely.

We are located in Castilla-La Mancha — the land of Don Quixote — so if you know the story, you might already have a feeling for the landscape and atmosphere.

  • Help

    Help

At this early stage of the project, we are mainly looking for people who would like to be part of a growing community initiative and contribute in different, flexible ways.

The kind of help can vary depending on the moment and your interests, but may include:

    – Assisting with communication (social media, content, design, etc.)
    – Light outdoor tasks connected to rural living (gardening, digging for new water system, small improvements, natural building with wood, clay and/or lime, etc.)
    – Supporting the organisation of small activities (local workshops about Natural agriculture or Low-tech examples, or Neighbour gatherings to exchange help)
    - Playing with our 2,5 years old daughter
    – Helping with creative ideas (From idea to implementation),
    – General support in shaping and developing the project.
    - Help with building the kitchen and outdoor compost toilet (depends when you come)

We really value people who are proactive, open-minded, and enjoy sharing ideas and co-creating. This is not just about helping, but about being part of a process.

We aim to keep a relaxed and balanced rhythm, usually around 4–5 hours per day, leaving plenty of time to rest, explore the area, or enjoy the surroundings.

As we share the space, we also expect everyone to take part in daily life, such as cooking, cleaning, and keeping the space tidy. We see this as a natural part of living together, based on respect, collaboration, and shared responsibility.

Since this project is still growing, we truly appreciate hearing your thoughts, feedback and reflections during and at the end of your stay — it helps us learn and evolve.

Marina is actually a language teacher (English, French and Spanish)! And is interested in learning the basics of any language and to go deeper in the ones that she's started learning (Slovenian, Italian and Portuguese). Jošt speaks Slovenian, English and Spanish and can also have a basic conversation in Serbo-Croatian. Also some very basic conversation in Russian :P

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

    – SLEEPING: You will stay in a tent with an inflatable mat, warm blankets, and pillows. If you prefer, we can also arrange a bed inside the house (for example in the library space).

    – HYGIENE: We have a washing machine available. The toilets we use are compost/dry toilets. Warm shower is also available

    – FOOD: We usually share meals together. Breakfast is simple (usually oat porridge with fruit and nuts) , lunch is a warm vegetarian meal, and dinner is lighter (bread, spreads, cheese, yogurt, etc.). You’re welcome to have fruit or snacks throughout the day.

We aim to create a simple, relaxed and respectful living environment.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We live in a quiet rural area, surrounded by other houses that are mostly used as second homes, so the atmosphere is generally calm and peaceful — especially during weekdays.

In your free time, you can enjoy nature, go for walks, rest, read, or simply disconnect from a busy lifestyle. It’s a good place for people who appreciate simplicity, slower rhythms, and being outdoors.

If you feel like exploring more, Madrid is less than 100 km away and can be reached by bus (line 351), which gives you the opportunity to experience the city, culture, and daily life in Spain.

We share the space with two medium-sized dogs (Pira and Lipa - 3 years old), who are energetic but well trained. It’s important for us that their boundaries are respected (for example, no jumping, no feeding during meals, etc.). We will of course explain everything so you feel comfortable.

We also have a cat, who is very affectionate and would most certainly love to visit you at nigh— so you might need to gently make your boundaries clear to her :)
