  • Description

HI! Nice to meet you!. We are Edward and Ingrid from the Netherlands. But.... we moved recently to Germany where we bought a very nice and old railwaystation. We fall in love with the old details with a lot of stories to tell. Our station is in the beautiful area of The HARZ, in the centre of Germany. There is a lot of nature. The city Ballenstedt is small, so perfect for people who want to rush of the crowd and stress. But it is also not far from touristic places as Quedlinburg (World Heritage place), Thale (with mountains) and close by cityhubs as Leipzig, Magdeburg (both 1,5 hour) and Berlin (3 hours)

There is a lot to do, and we like to invite you to help us with turning this into our private home. Ingrid travelled also as Workawayer, and she loved it to help other people. Also we like to connect with other people and that's also a reason why we like to work with Workawayers.

The whole building need a big renovation. A lot of work will be done by professionals, like the roof and the windows. But there is still a lot to do in where you can help. We are looking for people who want to help with demolisch, painting, carpenting, building walls, ect. Also there is a lot to do in the garden, like pavement.

We are open, honest and enthusiastic people. We love challenges. We love other people around us. The station is a place to come and go, a start of traveling. We like to connect people on this station, as an experience of their travelstories.
Our English is very good, our German good and Ingrid speaks also a little bit French, Italian and Spanish.

We are looking for maximum 2 at same time. Couples are also welcome.

There is a lot of nature to walk, cycle, mountainbike, and hiking.

The area has a rich cultural history from Roman and Middle Ages.

Quedlinburg is a very nice city with old timbered houses. It is listed on the Unesco World Heritage.

City hubs as Leipzig, Magdeburg, Dresden and Berlin are max 3 hours away and reachable by train.

You can be part of our project and learn a lot of maintenance skills. We can help you with your language skills and you can practice a lot. You can connect with other people and meet new people.
And learn about and taste the East German culture.

  • Accommodation

Of course we provide you a bed and meals, unfortunately that is not possible in our building yet. That is kind a ruin. But from 1 july we rented a house, on walkingdistance of our project, where we can live together. We provide a room for maximum 4 people which the volunteers will share. There is a bathroom with toilet and shower, which we are using private and share with our helpers. we offer 2 to max 4 person bedroom with separate beds.

We offer breakfast, lunch and a meal in the evening. There is also the possibility that they cook by themselves.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We have a passenger bus for 8 people, so after work we can provide nice trips to explore the nature and cultural richdom of the area. Unfortunately there is no railway in front of our station anymore, but there is a busstation right next to our building. Railwaystations are in Quedlinburg and Gernrode.

    We like non-smokers.
