Description
Hello!
Join our welcoming family on our beautiful, wild farm near São Pedro do Sul, Portugal! We are currently finishing the DIY renovation of our home and looking for an au pair to be a part of our daily lives.
**About Us:**
We are François, Suzie & our happy 2 year-old son Ulysse. In the warm season, we host many volunteers, so winter is a quiet time to rest and prepare for the next season.
**What We Offer:**
- A cozy caravan as your accommodation, providing you with your own space.
- All food provided—let us know your preferences! (not all meals are shared, but we all sit down together for at least one meal per day to connect & enjoy)
- An immersive experience in rural life, where you can learn about farm activities and contribute to the daily routine.
- A safe & supportive environment in the heart of nature
**Who we're looking for:**
- kind, positive, adventurous person who likes spending time with small children
- Help with childcare and some basic household chores (4-5hrs/day, weekends off)
- Occasional help on the farm, depending on the weather (we are in the mountains, so winter is quite cold and rainy, but we usually also get some nice sunny days when we work comfortably outside in T-shirts!)
- Someone who is independent, enjoys their own company, and values quiet time after working hours. We are very social the rest of the year, so we need someone more independent in the winter while we rest ourselves.
If you are passionate about nature, love spending time with families, and seek a meaningful experience in a picturesque setting, we would be thrilled to hear from you!

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We are a cross-cultural family/village group of all ages with diverse life, travel, and volunteer experiences; knowledge in permaculture, agroforestry, soil science, homesteading, eco-living, herbalism, French/world cooking, fermentation, animal husbandry, nutrition , meditation, etc.
The farm is part of a small traditional Portuguese village with a few older people still living the old way& another expat family we collaborate with who are also building up their project nextdoor.
We’re part of a vibrant international community of expats living in the region with many fun & diverse events happening regularly.
The farm also backs up to a vast mountain wilderness with pure rivers, hiking trails, and picturesque views.

Help
Ideally our winter helper would spend 2-3 hours per day with our little boy, and the remaining 1-2 hours helping with other basic chores such as meal prep, cleaning, doing dishes or folding laundry. Ideally you already have some experience with small children, so we don't need to teach you all the basics ;)
Our little boy is easy-going, playful, and of course, full of energy to explore the world. He is used to many people coming and going, so he is well-socialized and will probably take your hand to show you around the farm as soon as he meets you! His languages are English, French & Portuguese. He loves to be outside (weather permitting--he isn't a fan of rain), helping with cooking, taking care of the animals, or anything involving tools (his passion lol). His safety is our main priority, but we are quite relaxed parents. We believe in allowing him to try things, explaining and redirecting if it is unsafe, but generally otherwise letting him do his thing (or ideally "working" alongside us on the task at hand.)
