    Description

My husband, Trevor; our 2 daughters Taylor (18) and Makenzie (16); and I (Carol) live in North Cowichan on Vancouver Island, Canada. Trevor has a self-loading logging truck business and I am a pastry chef. We have a large heritage private home on 6.5 acres in a rural setting where we raise sheep, pigs and occasionally meat chickens.

We have 2 Great Danes, a Chihuahua, and 2 indoor Oriental Shorthair cats. We are an active, fun family. We camp in the summer and have lots of indoor social gatherings with friends as well as outdoor fire pit gatherings.

We have had several students from Spain stay with us for the summer months and we have always loved hearing their English language skills improve. We love showing off our beautiful Vancouver Island and introducing our new friends to our many beautiful sights.

We always need help with farm tasks. We have a few fences to build, and some pens to build and maintain. We will be bringing in some firewood that will need to be stacked and our house is in need of some sanding and painting. Cooking skills are an appreciated - I enjoy a break from the kitchen now and then. We love all foods, especially curried dishes.....Yum! Knowledge of fence building would be an asset. Help caring for animals would be great as well.

We are looking for help keeping the wood stove going, moving firewood, and other odds and sods. March brings lambing season and i need someone with barn smarts to keep an eye on the flock and let me know when they are lambing.

I work in town Tuesday to Saturday and could always give you a lift into town at that time (and home). There are tons of parks to visit and areas to hike/camp. Salt Spring Island and their Saturday market are a quick and interesting ferry ride away and there are plenty of larger city centres nearby for exciting sightseeing, shopping, and socializing.

We are a non-smoking, drug-free home and would expect our workaway to respect this part of our lives and refrain from smoking and drug use on or around our property and us.
