We loved our time staying with Carla and Steve. This was our first Workaway experience and we couldn't have been happier with how it all turned out. They were both so welcoming when we first arrived and it only took us a couple of days to feel at home.
Our main jobs included animal care and occasionally some cleaning up of leaves or helping to
… read more sort through the barn. We watched movies together most nights which was really nice and they also had lots of interesting/funny stories to share with us. We loved spending time with the animals, especially Rye and River the 2 dogs. There were also other Workawayers there at the same time as us so it was great to get to meet new people too!
We stayed in their trailer which was actually really cozy considering it was the start of Winter. Originally we were planning on staying with Carla and Steve for around 7 weeks but unfortunately we had to cut this short at 4 weeks due to a family emergency back at home in England. This understandably would have been quite inconvenient for them as 3 weeks is quite a long time to lose help for. However, they were both so understanding and kind about the situation and for that I (Beth) thank you both so much.
We would love to see you guys and the animals again one day, maybe we will be back in Canada in the future!

Ellie's presence and contribution at the farm was a blessing. Ellie settled in very quickly with her kindness, ease in talking with and friendly demeanor. … read more was guided by other volunteers and was comfortable around them within a short time. Ellie has always been kind and respectful with the animals which is important to all of us. As new volunteers arrived she took a leadership role in helping to train them and explain the work with great communication and patience. Ellie is a FANTASTIC vegan cook and took time and pride in preparing meals for all of us. We had some engaging and interesting conversations and enjoyed watching programs together. We will miss her at the farm and welcome her back to the farm anytime. She is a gem of a human.

… read more about our lives together! Everyone I met was lovely and the farm felt like a home away from home, in a time when that was very much needed. The work expected of us was fair and enjoyable (apart from the endless leaves needing to be raked!!! But that is the fault of the season!) and I loved getting to know the animals and their personalities, as well as getting more comfortable around horses as I had no experience with them previously. Overall my first experience on workaway being here was such a blessing, as I learnt so much and received amazing hospitality and kindness from Carla & Steve. The farm is a peacefull place, so nice and very cute. Animals are kind, and they well-being is really respected. I love the way that they talk and take care to their animals, with a lot of love. They have two amazing dogs (I discover the love of dogs with Rye !), lot of funny pigs, horses with each a different behavior to discover.
We spent also time together with Steve, Carla, Michele (Carla’s sister) and other workawayers, because we ate all dinners together. One person cook for others. Also during evening, sometimes we can watch movie together but personally, I spent lot of time talking about lots of different things with them.
Instead of that, they are really friendly, be in this home is like be in your home. They were patient with me and helped me to learn English. At the end I understood almost all Steve’s jokes !
By staying here, I discover more than just hosts, I discover a new family. I know that we will see each other again. I am sure of that, you're not rid of me, I will come back. And maybe one day in France :) ?You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Julen and Elo are a wonderful friendly couple. Over the two month stay they were responsible for feeding all the farm animals as well as cleaning the stalls, paddocks and fields. We really enjoyed getting to know Julen and Elo while chatting over dinner and watching movies together. We feel grateful they volunteered at our farm and would welcome them back any time. Thank you for your time with us.

Elias and Frieda are both very friendly and we had great evening conversations over dinner (which they also took part in preparing alternating with the other volunteer). We really enjoyed getting to know them both.
They never complained and were always up for other tasks that needed to be done. A highlight was their building of 3 wooden bridges for the animals to cross over the waterway in our field. We have nothing but great things to say about them. We would welcome them back anytime and it was a pleasure to have them with us.

Julius and I came here at the end of July, he went back beginning of September because of university and I stayed for another 4 weeks. After our time here we came to one conclusion: this was our best workaway ever!!!

… read more we felt like home immediately. We loved hearing you stories and sharing ours with you. We liked the structure of the days and that we always knew what we had to do. That made planning our free time easy. Even on the hottest days the work wasn’t too exhausting and most of it was done before noon. Spending time with the animals and building a connection with them was the best part for me. I especially miss the everyday snuggles with Indy and Scarlet. Julius, who has had only a little contact with horses up to now, made some four legged friends by the time he left.
Every person we met during our stay at the farm (Lindsay, Robin, Michele,…) was very kind to us, which contributed to the fact that we felt comfortable here. This is a special place. The animals are all so great and super cute and I loved taking care of them. Working around them including feeding and mucking out made the chores didn’t even feel like work. Its really easy to get into the routine and the working part is absolutely fair! I also really enjoyed our movie nights and our conversations helped me a lot getting more into English.
I want to thank Carla and Steve and everybody else from the bottom of my heart, I miss you all so much and will be forever grateful that I was part of the Farmily!!♡ Leaving there was so much worse than leaving Germany for my Work&Travel Experience!
