    Description

I live with my sister Denise in beautiful Queenstown. I was encouraged to join Workaway after hearing about the many brilliant connections made by my daughter Caro, a long time Workaway host in Rotorua. I look forward to hosting guests here in exchange for help with gardening, routine property maintenance and various household chores. As I've become older, it is frustrating not being able to keep up with the outdoor and heavier tasks I've always taken such pride in doing... I hope you will enjoy some of the many fabulous attractions Queenstown has to offer, knowing that your stay will also make a wonderfully positive difference in our own personal lives.

I was born in Cromwell 80+ years ago. I have lots of happy memories dating back to my early childhood growing up in this region. My grandfather was a high country farm worker. His son, my Uncle Ernie, was one of the last pioneers panning for gold on the Arrow River. Both owned what are now highly treasured historic stone cottages built in the 1800s. While today Queenstown and Arrowtown bear little resemblance to the streets of our childhood, we feel very privileged to have returned to live in such a special, beautiful part of New Zealand. Aside from two energetic dogs, we have a quiet somewhat aloof cat, and three chickens.

    Help

Basic gardening chores - pruning, raking leaves, weeding, sweeping paths. We also have some obvious outdoor trip hazards that can hopefully be minimised if not eliminated. If you have any particular expertise or work experience to draw on to make our home safer and better maintained, we'd love to hear from you! If you're a dog-person, Willow and River enjoy lots of walks and they'd both benefit also from some additional training. We have a few chickens and a coop that needs routine care. And there is a list of minor routine household cleaning and property maintenance issues you may have the skills and knowledge to tackle. If you're able to help with the ongoing reorganising and decluttering needed after combining two households of furniture and personal effects - mine and my sister's - we'd be really glad to explore those ideas with you also.

Work exchange is for 5 hours help per person, 5 days a week (25 hrs for 7 nights accommodation), includes all meals.

    What else ...

We are centrally located, a few minutes from Queenstown airport and the Frankton shops. If you rely on public transport, there is a bus stop just across the road from our house. This suburb is Lake Hayes Estate, a relatively new housing area, roughly half-way between Arrowtown and Queenstown... we're ideally located for sightseeing, skiing, and visiting the many adventure tourism activities and cycling trails in this spectacular part of the country.
