  • Description

    Hi hosts!
My name is Leah, and I am a twenty-one year old student living in Edmonton, Canada - hoping to find my next big adventure in life.
I am currently in my fourth year of university, studying animal health science. Once my degree is complete, I hope to work with animal welfare and rehabilitation organizations. I have two dogs, named Stella and Oliver. I love them very much, and spending time with them on walks and playing with them at home is my favourite part of the day. When I'm not attending university lectures or studying in the library, I love spending time with friends and family - preferably doing something outside like hiking or walking through the river valley. I share my love for plants and gardening with my mom. During the summer, we love to work in the garden together, planting new vegetables or trying out new flowers in our front yard. I have experience working in three restaurant kitchens, and I have love cooking for friends and family - coming up with new recipes and creations.
I love exploring new, beautiful places. I'm really drawn to adventure, and I often find comfort in the unknown - scary as it may be sometimes.
That is a little bit about me! Thank you so much for your time, and I hope you have a lovely day!
    Sincerely,
    Leah

  • More details about your skills

I am currently studying animal health sciences at university. I have a lot of knowledge of all sorts of animals, like dogs, cats, horses, and cows. And I have also gone to pig and poultry farms to partake in laboratory work.
I have been volunteering at an animal shelter for the past couple of years, taking the dogs on walks, feeding them, and most importantly, giving them the love and care they deserve. I find that work to be extremely rewarding, and something I plan to do much more of in the future.
I have worked in three restaurants, giving me nearly two years' worth of experience in the culinary department. I worked as both a line cook and a baker - and I love both positions. Working in such a fast-paced environment, I learnt that I work very well under high pressure. My mom is an amazing cook, and I have grown up learning how to make good food. I love to share meals and food with people, and cooking has always been a way for me to build new connections with friends and family.
I worked as a garbage picker-upper for one summer, cleaning up parks and grounds after festivals. In addition, I have worked as a general labourer at a warehouse, cleaning up, handling tools and materials, and working in production assembly.
I was an assistant referee in soccer for four years, where I learnt how to communicate with and organize coaches, parents, and children. I babysat for well over five years of my life, so I am very experienced and enjoy working with children.
I volunteered at senior homes for a total of three years, where I kept residents company, took them to activities that their homes were hosting, and even brought my dogs with me for some animal companion therapy!

  • What else ...

If someone were to ask me what my favourite thing to do outdoors in the summer is, I would say hiking. I love being out in nature, and I get such an extreme amount of joy when I reach the top of a mountain. I spend a fair amount of time researching new hikes and adventures I can do all over the world. Wherever I travel to, I would love to experience what my surroundings can show me, and teach me.
