Hi, I’m Gisela — a curious German woman who apparently never quite learned how to stay in one place for very long. 😊

I love travelling, discovering new countries and cultures, meeting interesting people and, most of all, learning how other people live, work and see the world.

I’m a trained social worker, Waldorf teacher, raw-food chef and educator, but my real education has happened on the road. Over the years I’ve lived and worked in South Africa, New Zealand, Switzerland, Europe, North and South America — and spent about 8½ years travelling through the USA, Canada, Central and South America.

I’ve worked on organic farms, in health and wellness centres, herbal farms, eco-villages, hotels, animal sanctuaries, schools and education centres, and had the privilege of learning from some wonderful people who were absolute masters in their fields.

More recently, I’ve also worked as a tour guide for cruise ship guests in Norway and as a guide for travellers exploring the Panamericana in their own motorhomes. I love meeting people from all over the world, sharing stories and helping travellers discover new places.

So yes, I know a bit about organic farming, nutrition, medicinal herbs, healthy living, education, community life and guiding. I can cook, teach, organise, communicate with people from all walks of life, get my hands dirty — and happily learn something completely new. 🌱

I especially loved a year of travelling through Africa, volunteering on organic farms, in schools and orphanages.

And I’m still not finished learning.
That’s probably one of the reasons I love Workaway so much. I still have the curiosity of a child: give me something new, and I’ll probably want to know how it works, why it works and whether I can try it myself.

I’m healthy, active, adaptable and easy-going. I enjoy good conversations, good food, nature, laughter and people who are passionate about what they do.

Basically, I’m a lifelong student with a backpack, always happy to add another skill, story or adventure to it. 🌎✨
