Description
We (Stewart & Deborah) live in the beautiful village of Naramata, B.C in Canada. We have 2 children who are at college. We used to travel extensively before settling down in the Okanagan Valley. We worked on private yachts for 8 years. Our 1.3 acre property consists of a small vineyard, a vegetable garden and lots of trees. We need help in the spring and Autumn with general upkeep of the property. This will mostly consist of things like pruning bushes and trees, weeding, painting outdoor structures, and some carpentry projects.
We run a small business and are generally pretty busy during the week. It would be helpful if workawayers could take their 2 days off during the week so we could work together at weekends. Workers would be asked to help 4-5 hours per day, 5 days per week in return for room and board. Workawayers should be comfortable being left to do tasks without constant supervision as we may not be around much during the week. Most of our meals are vegetarian based. We occasionally eat fish.
We have 2 dogs and 2 cats so anyone with allergies to these animals would not be suited to our house.
We like to drink wine occasionally but do not want any drugs on the property.Types of help and learning opportunities
Gardening
DIY and building projects
Help around the house
General Maintenance
Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We have travelled a lot and are very happy to swap experiences with travellers and help them improve their English. There are many wineries in the area for those interested in learning more about wine and winemaking.
Help
Our workawayers so far have helped tidy up the property immensely with a mix of garden work and painting . We had some experienced carpenters who also built some awesome raised beds. Basically any help with yard work /gardening is great and if someone has carpentry experience to work on fencing or other woodwork projects that's a bonus.

Accommodation
Accommodations for workawayers is a lovely self contained area with its own bathroom and cooking area. If we are not around to make and share meals we ask that workawayers cook their own meals with food we would provide. This would not be very often. We can accommodate either one couple or 2 individuals who would each have their own room with a shared bathroom and a shared living space.
What else ...
Naramata is a quiet village about 15 minutes drive from the nearest town of Penticton. There is a beautiful lake and lovely beaches. We have a store and a pub in the village. We have a canoe that can be used on the lake. There is a very limited bus service twice per day. Volunteers would be welcome to catch a ride into town whenever we are heading in for groceries or errands. There are lots of lovely hiking trails, beautiful bike rides and lots of wineries to visit. The area is not suitable for people who are looking for an exciting night life. Having a car would be helpful if you want to sight see beyond Naramata. We have bikes that can be used to sightsee locally and try to show our workawayers the area as much as possible when time allows.
We cannot accommodate other pets or families with young children.A little more information

When I arrived, I first met Deborah who welcomed me into their home, guided me around the grounds, talked through jobs, and introduced me to the village. Due to a family emergency, Deborah had to leave during my stay to go back to the UK. However, she… read more
