Moriz is a fantastic guy who's been with us for a month. He's been a real joy to watch; I don't think you could have imagined the place he'd end up in... the group of people he'd met and, above all, everything he'd been able to enjoy. Although he's German, which is a challenging starting point... he's very Latin-minded... he appreciates company... he's climbed a lot... he's even learned to build stone walls... I just want to say that he's welcome back... he's been a really nice volunteer

It was so amazing to share our home with Anna for a week! She is such an easy-going, very reliable and open-minded person. So thanks to her, our balcony is now ready for the spring and summer and all our indoor plants are happy again in their bigger pots (in the right soil for sure)! On top, we had such a great time while doing so many things together like eating (with some unknown food for Anna and ice-cream for sure), going to a café, sight-seeing in Nürnberg (with all the old churches) and birding (including all the new German and English birdnames) and we loved all the chats in between. We shared so many thaughts and stories and got an insight in our different lives. Anna, even when it just has been a week, we really enjoyed having you around and hope to see you again - in Nürnberg or somewhere else! There are some birds we have to find (or plant, not sure about this) together and there will be no Quark for you, promised! Have a great journey! 🧡

We have been delighted to share our work and some memorable moments with Louis; he is a young man of strong values and principles in a society that is failing young people by devouring their future. He knows exactly what we mean, as he has been a climate activist and has fought to ensure that the future of young people does not end in collapse; yet the dominant gerontocracy neither recognises the Climate Emergency nor acts accordingly, and worse still, provokes wars over dirty and lethal oil. Louis is a hard-working, attentive, kind and empathetic person who is 100% trustworthy; despite being aware of what is happening around him on a global scale, he always has a smile and lives life with love and intensity. He is a profoundly intelligent person. Whilst he was with us, in his spare time he threw himself into reading and practising Bo Staff Freestyle and Japanese Jo, at which he is very good, and we believe he will not give up practising, learning more techniques and new tricks; this, of course, fills us with pride, as Louis has valued and taken on board all the knowledge we could offer him. We have made a new friend and we recommend Louis to all hosts for his kindness, sincerity and skill, and we hope he will surprise us with another visit when he sees fit and wishes our paths to cross once more. A big hug, Louis, and our very best wishes to you always. América and Marcos.

Eva was a delight to have with us at the rescue centre, she was a calm, easygoing presence happy to get involved and make herself helpful. The love and patience she showed for our animals really shone through and we are so grateful for the time she spent here. She was kind and considerate and an all-round great volunteer.

I spent two weeks at this beautiful place and let me tell you, it wasn’t nearly enough. Surrounded by a forest, a river and cuddly animals coming to greet me every day, I truly found a way to calm down and breathe a little here. At first I was a bit nervous about being so remote but honestly, it was such an amazing experience to be surrounded by nothing but nature and quietness. Take a good book with you and you’re all set!:) Sabine immediately made me feel welcomed and safe, regularly checking if I was okay and coming to the rescue with any struggles or questions I had (unfortunately I didn’t get to meet Yvonne, who was in the Netherlands while I was there). Communication was never a problem and especially helpful regarding public transport - I don’t think I could’ve managed it without her explanations and advice. I never had to do anything I wasn’t comfortable with and could take breaks whenever necessary. We also had some sweet and fun conversations, I think I enjoyed talking to her a bit too much.:D The work was fairly manageable and varied from day to day, so it never got boring. My time here went by so fast, I think I could’ve stayed for at least double the amount of time I did. I miss all of you guys so much, thank you for this unique and warm experience. I hope I’ll be back someday in the future!!<3

It was an extraordinary and intense experience. Marilyn was a wonderful host and a patient teacher when we needed her to be. The whole staff went out of their way to accomodate us. This mostly unknown part of the world where two distinct cultures have learned to coexist, though, is the real show: unique, undeveloped, and wild, it is sometimes a harsh place. The work can be hard, but with a little effort, rewarding. We soon felt at home here. An exceptional experience in an authentic place that we highly recommend.

I had the amazing opportunity to stay with Ms. Dung and her daughters for three weeks. Her daughters are absolutely lovely, energetic, and fun to be around. My daily routine mainly involved one-on-one English lessons with Strawberry, the youngest. She is incredibly smart, and keeping her focused required creativity, but it was such a rewarding challenge, and it was clear she is very well-educated. I also had the chance to visit the Hope Center, where we shared some drawings for the children to paint. Meeting them was truly heartwarming. I also joined in on some of Ms. Dung’s daughters’ activities, which gave me a full and immersive local experience. Overall, it was a memorable and enriching time that I will always cherish.

It's been a long time since I've workawayed in Galatina but I still carry such warm memories of my time there, and references are really important so after 1.5 year, this is the exact moment that I feel like writing. Francesco created a special place in that little town in the heel of Italy. A true community, based on movement. There are a lot of events going on and a lot of classes for all ages. I had a blast, hanging around in the silk, on the ball. Everybody can play, that's the theme om this place. Francesco and the other volunteer took me to other events of their community; lunch, dance evening, a market, jam sessions, the beach. This is the Workaway where I felt the most welcome, and included in their circle. This was my fifth workaway, and right now, after my 10th workaway, I still feel the same. Francesco seemed to be in at least 4 places at the same time so the working schedule was flexible and fragmented. We had a lot of fun with painting a sign and sweeping and photographing was just a nice job to do. My tiny loft space was also the yoga studio, and thanks to that I now know 'inspiro & espiro' (breath in, breath out). Great memories, even after such a time. I hope you're still keeping up the good work! It's been a while, thanks for these memories : )

What can I say, Mara was a breath of fresh air. Committed, hardworking, able to follow details and instructions but also adaptable and positively accepting of changes. She was able to adjust her routine tasks if needed to be altered due to weather, or the anarchy of Greek deliveries never being on time etc. She is a strong character but also deeply caring and goes the extra mile, always wanting to do a good job and getting satisfaction from doing something well. Mara is capable of coping with tensions that can sometimes arise when an animal gets sick or a fence is broken and needs mending quickly, before a whole group of ponies gets out or the neighbours herd of sheep get in and cause havoc, trailing all our electric fences and posts behind them!!! These situations when they occasionally arise, can be stressful as the are frequently emergent and need to be dealt with in a split second via a direct command of voice that some people could be offended by - but due to Mara's experience with ponies and livestock she dealt with it in an objective and impersonal manner. Totally committed to doing here best for all the animals and accepting boundaries and approaches necessary to control our very lively rescue dogs whilst also making a real effort to communicate basic commands to the dogs in Greek, which was so nice to see. I deeply appreciated her kindness, consistency, attention to detail, ability to just get on with a job and do it well with a limited need for direction. Mara can be part of a team or work under her own initiative, able to connect with people or get on with her own thing. She is mature and has a good sense of herself, enjoys her own company and appeared to really enjoy the quietness of the farm. In her downtime she would find her own entertainment either reading a good book, taking photographs, editing short videos, going for walks to the beach or observing the interactions of the ponies and other animals. She was low maintenance and independent, whilst able to enjoy and participate in quality conversations both with myself and the other volunteers here, whilst also being fully aware and supportive of my need to at times take my own space and time out. She is very respectful of boundaries and I deeply appreciated this. Even though only here for a short time she came in with direct energy and concentrated effort and was a real blessing, I so look forward to seeing her again later in the year.

Eleni and Zoe welcomed me with open arms when I was last-minute looking for a host. My week flew by and I'm sad to leave this bold, bright and slightly chaotic household. Eleni needed some help with deconstructing her exhibition which was an honour to help with. I felt really appreciated in everything that I did. We had a lot of good conversations about art, purpose, life and society. Eleni is a passionate, fierce woman with a lot of wisdom and ideologies to share. The other members of the household are both expressive and full of joy. Zoe never runs out of energy and so we danced together and sang a lot of Disney songs : ). Her understanding of English is pretty good and she told me a lot about her friends and everything she likes in life. The dog Coco is a lovely, cuddly creature who is always down for a walk or a stroke. Exarcheia is a cool neighbourhood. Through this area I fell in love with Athens. Only half an hour by foot from the Acropolis, and I had lots of time to explore. The four working hours a day were really flexible so there were some days that I ran around the city all day long and some days were I stayed in and helped with household tasks, computer stuff, had fun with Zoe and walked with Coco. There's always something to do and everything is entangled so never boring times : ). Thanks for your openness, incredible hospitality and perspectives. See you in a month!

I stayed at the sanctuary for 6 weeks and it was an amazing experience. I learned so much about animals and met some truly wonderful people. The place is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by untouched nature, and you can even see the ocean from there. I also had the chance to explore the whole island during my days off, and Lanzarote is stunning. It’s an experience I would recommend to anyone. I had such a great time, with many special moments and unforgettable experiences. Liala has created a truly beautiful sanctuary. I will definitely come back!!

The wonderful island of Aegina was an experience for sure. The island is very pretty and so is the hotel when it's ready for the season. We worked mostly in painting and gardening, which was usually satisfying and sometimes frustrating to do. I am a perfectionist and very precise and that was just not a good fit with the work in this hotel. Notis is a funny guy but he is under a lot of pressure before the start of the season. He cares about the wellbeing of the workawayers; bought a kettle when we asked, arranged a personal room for a light sleeper, was generous with food and drove us to town. But he also has this hotel to open in three weeks and it was hard to meet his pace and match his expectations. When you enjoy big tasks, prefer high-speed working over precise, and perhaps have some experience in painting, this is the place for you. I wish Notis and his hotel all the best!

The two weeks we had at Sofí's farm were truly special - she is one of the most caring people you'll ever meet, and she is warm, generous and kind. She takes such good care of all her volunteers and genuinely wants everyone to have the best experience, and you can really feel this when you're working with her. Her project on the farm is really interesting, even to us who had no prior knowledge of the industry. Usually we would work from 9-1 everyday, followed by a huge lunch with Sofí and her family. Then we would have all afternoon and evening free to explore and relax by ourselves. For the accommodation for volunteers, there are two cabins a few metres away from the main house, both of which are well-equipped with everything you could need, and you're guaranteed to have a private bedroom even if there are other volunteers there at the same time as you. The farm is about a half hour walk from the main road, where buses run regularly into the town, but it was super safe to hitch lifts off passing cars to save us the walk! Overall, we were made to feel like part of the family right from the start, with lots of chatting, sharing meals, and the offer of sharing trips together. This was such an amazing volunteering opportunity and we would recommend it to anyone, even if you've never done anything similar before. Sofí truly understands the ethos of Workaway, and we feel so lucky to have spent two weeks of our trip with her.

I’ve just spent a brilliant month with Meri and Marcos. They’re both incredibly generous individuals, who love to share their knowledge. I’ve learned a great deal both about flow arts and martial arts, and about sourcing healthy vegetarian produce. The most important point of exchange, however, was about the climate crisis. They’re very knowledgeable, and have none of the delusions of our society that we use to hide the state of the world from ourselves. Be prepared to talk about the serious stuff! Understand that deep ecology, as they put it, means more than a bit of recycling: it means staring reality in the face, without illusions, and acting accordingly! The house is indeed on fire…Thank you once again, Meri and Marcos, for having me, teaching me, and for your patience with my dodgy Spanish! I wish all the best to you and your many animals, and hope we’ll meet again :)

I stayed at this stable from september 2025 to march 2026, and I had a great experience. The stable is in a beautiful location right by some mountains, and the trails for riding and hiking are endless. From the town you can take the bus to Arezzo, and from there you can take the train to other cities, like Firenze. You can absolutely explore around when you're not working. I lived in a cute and small cabin-style place on the property, which included a kitchen, bedroom and a bathroom. The work was mostly feeding, moving horses in and out, cleaning the stables and paddocks, and Andrea was teaching everything i needed to know. I started feeding at 7 and would feed in the afternoon around 16-17. Sometimes I also assisted in childrens riding lessons or walks. Alexandra was super kind and friendly, and made me feel welcome. She would usually take me on a trail ride on sunday, and sometimes we went sightseeing in the nearby areas during the lunch break. The stable is owned by a larger company that makes wine, olive oil, lots of good sauces and more, so you will for sure try some good food. I absolutely recommend going!
