  • Description

Hi folks! I’m Anna, a 24 year old from southern Ontario, Canada. I just finished my undergraduate degree in biology, so now that I have some free time on my hands, I’m planning to spend this spring travelling in Europe! I’ll be travelling France, Germany, Austria, Czechia, the Netherlands, England, and Scotland over the months of March-May. I previously did a couple workaways on a shorter trip to France in early 2020 and so I’m looking forward to doing it again!

With this trip, I’m very excited to experience new places and to connect with people and the natural world wherever I go, as well as to get to know myself better through new experiences and relationships! Workaway fits my style of travel because it allows for meeting new people, learning new skills, and encountering new ideas in a way that typical tourism does not. I appreciate that it lets me give back to the places I visit and avoid some of the negative social impacts of (over)tourism. Equally, I’m not in a rush to see as many places as I can as quickly as possible and I value the ability to incorporate some rest into my travel.

I can be a bit quiet when first meeting new people and certainly appreciate having alone time on occasion, but I’ve also learned over the last few years what great value there is in connecting with people both similar and different from myself wherever I go. I’m most interested in workaways where there’s some opportunity to be included in the daily life/household of my host, and in staying with hosts who are open to showing me some of the area where they live or giving me pointers on where to go.

In my free time, I also enjoy baking, reading, fibre crafts (especially crochet), drawing and painting, gardening and growing house plants, drinking tea, and cuddling my cat. I’m also passionate about spending time in the natural world, particularly hiking, birding, and learning to identify plants and insects. If you’re a birder, I’d love to learn about your favourite birds and birding spots in your area! I would also love to learn new skills in any of the areas mentioned above, or am happy to share what I know. I’d particularly love to learn hand spinning and weaving, so if those are things you know how to do, let me know!

In terms of work, I’m open to a wide variety of opportunities! I am reliable worker and take great satisfaction in a job well done. I enjoy and have experience with gardening, general farm labour, cooking, painting and small renovations, organizing things, pet care, and anything art/craft related. Or I’m open helping out in other ways, as long as we both think it would be a good fit! Please note I am not looking for work that involves supervising children.

Also to note, I am only looking for queer-friendly places to stay!

My itinerary is still a bit fuzzy at this point, but I am most likely looking for workaways in Germany (and maybe France) in March, Berlin and the Netherlands in April, and England or Scotland in May. Since I’m aiming to go quite a few places in 3 months, I’m looking for workaway opportunities that are 1-2 weeks long.
