I spent spent a month with Gio and Patrick in January 2023 with my daughter, and it was truly an unforgettable experience in every way. The place itself is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by stunning nature that makes it a joy to wake up every day. The horses are simply magnificent – not only incredibly beautiful, but also gentle and wonderful to be around. The dogs are equally sweet and quickly become part of your daily life. I give my warmest recommendations to anyone considering a Workaway stay here – it is a truly unique place and an experience we will always cherish.

My main objective for using workaway is to get to know new people, gain skills and get inspiration to reconnect with nature. I therefore really enjoyed my short stay with Marco. Marco is a super friendly and positive guy who has a lot of stories and really makes you feel welcome. We had great conversations about nature, education, future projects, personal development, but also more philosophical conversations about the current state of the world and how to live your best life. I also greatly appreciate the presence of Bandita (a very social cat) and the fresh healthy vegetarian meals that Marco prepared every day using local products. During my stay I did some small things in the garden and constructed a path to improve the access to another part of the property. It was great that Marco was around most of the time to help when needed, but also trusted me enough to go on on my own. He is a creative guy (even taught me to weave a basket) and has many inspiring plans for the future . I really hope 'my' path is suitable for people in a wheelchair :). Unfortunately (this time) my stay with Marco was only 10 days, but I'm sure I will be back in the future! I'm eager to learn how your project develops and wish you all the best! Leo

Mya. Oh my, how do you catch a rainbow in the sky? Or rather, how do you describe an ephemeral angel? Mya was soooo wonderful! She was a little shy at first though soon opened up and joined in everything we were doing here. She learned to manage the woodstove, chop wood, bring it in. Mya adapted quickly to our duck and goose care routine and soon took on the chores of releasing them from their coop, replenishing feed, water and bedding, monitoring outside temperatures for heat and ventilation requirements, and rounding them up to return to the coop. She collected eggs and recorded them. Mya learned to feed the baby Tilapia fish and joined us in watching them mature. She assisted with cleaning their tanks when needed. My helped us with managing winter infrastructure and participated in weeding and some controlled burning in the field. She also did some winter weeding and some moving of winter field and fruit tree debris. She helped with applying the first of the manure to the ornamentals and applied mulch over that. Mya is keenly observant and strives to be of much assistance as she can. She is a blessing in that way!! Mya participated in two of our monthly intentional community WorkPlay days and got to meet every member of our community (& was an invited guests to many of their homes!). Mya (at her own desire) joined us in several Quaker activities, local Game Nights, and attending the Foreign Film series. She was invited to ( and did) join in other activities in our neighborhood, including our annual Mardi Gras parade and potluck. Mya took good advantage of her time off and went to Birmingham, Montgomery (and to the spectacular museums there) and then to Huntsville (with one of our returning guests from South Africa) where they visited Lowe Mill Arts Center. Mya danced into our hearts and will be greatly missed. She is most definitely a fine Workaway guest and is welcome back anytime. She is highly recommended to other Workaway Hosts! WOW 🤩 Thank you, Mya. We hope it isn’t too long before you grace us with a visit. Sara

I stayed with Tanya for around 3 and a 1/2 weeks, i had a super fun time. I had plenty of time off to go and explore fort worth, and other stuff i wanted to do. We also went out to her country house in east texas a bunch of times, it's so pretty out there on the lake, i met some of Tanyas friends and they are all so lovely it was a great experience overall. Tanya was always looking out for me, we had some great and meaningful conversations, and i can't wait to come back!!

I stayed with Sara and Daryl for two months. They are such lovely people! I encourage anyone who stays with them to ask a million questions. Ask about their lives, about the house, and anything else that interests you. I also recommend that you get involved in the community. Common Ground is full of great people. I enjoyed participating in Workdays, going to ukelele on Sundays, and attending game night. If you're up for it, consider going to a Contra dance. Check out the hiking trails as well. I felt comfortable staying with them in the house. There's a wonderful little dog named Echo who brought a lot of joy to my days. Some meals are together and others are on your own. The kitchen is well-stocked, and I always enjoyed my meals. I stayed in the room upstairs and can definitely recommend it to anyone of short stature. The work varies day to day. The tasks related to the ducks and geese are pretty simple. Most of the work I did was outdoors. A lot of weeding. I did some organizational tasks as well, such as organizing the shed and creating a list of Sara's seeds. None of it was especially long or difficult. They truly care that you have a good experience.

Thank you Laurène & Aimé for a truly nourishing few months at this place, where I fell in love with the river and genuinely felt part of the family. I came here directly after arriving in Colombia from the UK with the goal of grounding myself and reconnecting with nature, whilst getting stuck into some hands-on physical work. This was exactly what I found... and more... Laurène & Aimé were managing the final building phase before receiving their first guests in February, so it was a busy period for them. Despite this, they went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable, had interesting tasks to do and felt included (I even spent a wonderful Christmas together with them). This also meant I had the privilege of staying in one of the beautiful finished cabins, and seeing the place undergo incredible transforms in a short space of time. Laurène and Aimé are inspiring, generous, very warm-hearted, and make the BEST home-made crêpes. The place is fairly isolated, which I appreciated, making the most of the 27 hectare terreno by exploring independently and bathing in quiet spots of the river. It is a powerful and evidently sacred place that will gradually reveal itself to you if you take the time, care and attention to connect. I had only planned to stay one month but found myself extending and extending. In my second month I took more walks to nearby Aguas Lindas, Los Moros and El Escudo, getting to know the campesino neighbours, many who are coffee farmers. With a local Wiwa guide I also walked (4 hours) to and stayed overnight in his community Wimake, a beautiful and privileged experience. There is plenty to do here and opportunities to connect with local culture, if you take the initiative. I enjoyed the work, which was varied, and the very reasonable amount of hours asked of volunteers. Un fuerte abrazo amigos. Nos vemos ♥

This was my first Workaway experience, and I couldn’t have asked for a better start. I stayed with Liza, Luke, and their family for 3 weeks and felt at home from the beginning. They’re kind, open-minded, and very patient in helping me improve my English. They were also very understanding when my flight was canceled and I had to stay a few extra days. It’s a peaceful place, with a beautiful lake (if you like kayaking, you’re going to love it!) and, of course, the cutest animals — Nyxie and Vesper. I also enjoyed having my own space and privacy. The work was mostly cleaning, sweeping, and working in the woods — cutting trees and clearing paths. I’ll remember the great moments: board games, guitar with Ivy, and the ska show with Liza. Thank you for everything — highly recommended!

Bitten and her daughter Sara joined us during January 2024 for a period of 4 weeks. They had a very valuable contribution to our farm, especially with their help with the horses and general management of our stables. Furthermore, they had excellent relationships with our other team members. Overall we have had a very positive and useful experience.

Klara and Mike spent about 12 days with me. They are a lovely couple and very interesting to talk with. I just gave them a list of some tasks and they worked really well – didn’t need any direction, just got on with it. They did a lot more work than I expected, and were self-motivated and organised. They did some painting in the house (it was really hot weather) and lots in my garden, including taking the green waste to the tip. I have no hesitation in recommending them as Workawayers and would welcome them back any time. I hope to see them again later in the year if they return to WA. Thanks so much Klara and Mike for all your help.

Brooke and friends needed a last minute stay till their next host and were with us a few nights. During the time they were a great help with some bigger chores and did a splendid job. And even tho it was hard work they kept on smiling. We had some lovely conversations, they are both interesting and interested. Brooke is kind and gentle and Morgan energetic and full of ideas. They have great skills and I would recommend them as helpers.

GRATE EXPERIENCE! 😊 GRAN EXPERIENCIA! 🙏🏻 Thank you so much to all the family, other volunteers and all the people I met there! I had such a good time in El Hierro and a very good workaway experience, highly recomended. About the work, there are allways different tasks to be done, so you will never get bored of something, the food was delicious, with fruits and vegetables from the garden, homemade bread, and very good cooks! The finca is a very special place to live, and the island was beautiful. 💚

Bella and Sam stayed at my place a bit more than a month helping walking my dog. March is one of the busiest periods so their help was such a life saver. We are so lucky to have them. Unfortunately i could spend much time due to my working hours but it was absolutely comfortable for me to have them at my place. Crosby also love them a lot. If you’re reading this to consider whether to host them or not. Don’t hesitate to say yes. They will be always welcome at my place. Please feel free to visit anytime.
