    Description

Beautiful century farmhouse and artist studio located just outside the village of Keene, Ontario, on 100 acres of rolling hills. I am interested in self-sufficiency and plant a large organic garden every year. Depending on the time of year you arrive, help will include tilling, planting, weeding and mulching the garden, with food preservation (freezing, cooking, canning) later in the season. This winter we are building a wood storage shed and are interested in anyone that has a construction background.

The village of Keene is a small farming community with Lang Pioneer Village, an interesting tourist attraction. Trips to the nearby city of Peterborough are also possible. Accommodation for 2 in a studio on the property with access to wifi. We will work and eat together. You will eat well as I enjoy cooking and the garden provides and abundance of organic food in the summer. I occasionally eat meat but am happy to accomodate vegetarians. You're also welcome to cook with me. I'm looking for help all year.

Depending on what we are doing, help would be approx. 4 - 5 hours a day, 5 days a week. Weekends are yours to explore the area. Come experience life on a small Ontario farm!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

As I am in the Arts there are many opportunities to meet many professional artists, writers etc. There is always an opportunity to go to Manitoulin Island, stay on Lake Huron and enjoy the lake. There are many cultural activities to do there , eg learn about our First Nations People, fisheries. You will also learn about our heritage in Keene. I try to fulfill any of my volunteers interests during their stay with me. It is always fun to learn from each other!!!
