Well, where should I even begin? Staying in Batusangkar at Mr. Edison’s home, with his wife and sons, has been one of the most meaningful and enriching experiences I’ve ever had. From the very first moment, they made me feel welcomed, safe, and part of their family. They took care of me with so much kindness and were always checking that I was happy and doing well. I stayed for two weeks, but honestly, a part of me wishes I could have stayed much longer. During the week, you’ll have conversation classes from Monday to Saturday, usually from 3 to 6 pm. In the mornings, you’ll help promote the school in local schools, but you’ll also have time to yourself — to walk around, explore the town, and discover local food and daily life. One important thing to know is that you won’t be alone while teaching. There will always be a teacher with you in the classroom to support you. So if you don’t have teaching experience, or if you’re not a native English speaker, you really don’t need to worry. What truly matters is your attitude, your willingness to share, and your openness to connect with the students. The students and teachers are truly special. They are full of energy, curiosity, and warmth. They welcomed me with open arms, took me to explore the surrounding areas during the weekends, and even surprised me with so many thoughtful gestures and gifts. Their generosity and kindness touched me deeply. Be ready to be the center of attention — you’ll most likely be the only bule 😂 — but it comes with so many smiles, laughter, and genuine human connection. I also had the chance to discover traditional food, drinks, customs, and real local life. One of the most unforgettable moments was being invited to a wedding — something I never expected, and will never forget. This experience gave me so much more than I could have imagined. Not just memories, but real connections and lessons. I truly, wholeheartedly recommend this experience.

She was always helpful and ready to lend a hand whenever needed. She brought cheerful energy and good vibes to the team. We truly appreciated her presence and contribution during her stay. She would be a great addition to any host.

I loved my time at the Lodge! The place is amazing with great nature and things to see every day. I was there for 3.5 weeks and it was an experience I'll never forget. The guides are amazing, special shout-out to Walter, Riley, Cade and Izak, who always made us workawayers feel welcome and at home. Shout out to my Capitán Laura, who I got to practice my Spanish with, and who I shared many a busy days doing work! Shout out Allan, who drove the car to perfection and was always helpful. A great guy to practice Spanish with! Kirk and Johanna were also wonderful hosts, who always did their best to meet the needs of the WorkAwayers, guides, and of course, the customers. But the most special thing I associate this trip with are the friendships I've made. The connections I made with my fellow WorkAwayers and guides are some I won't soon forget. Hopefully I will get to meet them again wherever they are! I went alone and I loved it, so if you have any reservations about doing it solo, don't you worry! Next time I'm in Costa Rica I will be back for sure.

Dario was an excellent workerawayer and an absolute pleasure to host while he was in Edmonton. His stay with us was longer than average, but we would have happily allowed him to stay longer if he wished. His willingness to try new things and ability to work independently made it easy to assign him tasks and complete them at his pace. While he was assisting in a furnace install, my contractor even offered to hire him! I would encourage any host that Dario contacts to welcome him as a worker and guest. He is low maintenance and a very hard worker. He will also offer interesting stories of his travels. If you're ever back in Edmonton Dario, please feel free to contact us for a stay.

Grateful for Lena's warm welcome to her household and charming town of Mangawhai. Her house is gorgeous, she is an excellent cook and her art work is very beautiful. Her dog is so sweet and friendly, it was hard to bid farewell.

We truly had a wonderful experience with Gloria, she is an angel that anyone would be lucky to have! She handled the tasks like a champion, not being afraid of getting her hands dirty and being able to look after our two kids at the same time takes an impeccable amount of skill! There are so many things that we can say about this sweet lady, her heart is BIG and her desire to help was on another level including her thoughtfulness towards us and this parenthood journey, no one has ever offered to look after our kids in order for us both to have a sleep in. This was one of the most kindest gestures, that we couldn't believe it! But she did. Gloria has such a beautiful spirit. She was very friendly towards the other volunteers and her sincere communication and positivity added such a sweet and uplifting element to the space. We are immensely grateful for this volunteering experience, and will hold it in our hearts for the moments spent were heartwarming and special. Sending many blessings for the way ✨💚✨🦋🌿

Staying at Anja's was wonderful ! I've been doing few workaways already and this is one of my favorite 🤩. Anja makes you feel welcome and part of the family as soon as you arrive. I stayed in Terrigal for 2 weeks, one week with Emily (an other workaway), the other by myself. I took care of the lovely Pipo 🐶 and help Anja with few jobs around the house including repainting her hallway (I'm still not sure about the colour 😉). Anja has always been very clear about what she needed from us, giving us a lot of freedom about how and when we wanted to do things to also be able to enjoy our time there. After I left her place, she helped me by keeping my bags and Alberto gave it back to me later on. Anja and Alberto are two very nice persons, caring and sweet, they will open their house for you and share a part of their peaceful life. If you have the chance, go for it !

We really enjoyed Fer's stay. She's lovely and has great energy. I appreciate all her help with making cardboard pots, glass potters, and watching the dogs so we could travel for the day. She has a great attitude and a nice conversationalist. Thank you Fer!

Thank you, Donna and Cath for the loveliest workaway stay! If you ever get a chance for WA stay, dont hesitate. I did some painting and was rewarded by a lovely food, lovely company by Donna, Cath, and of course Berry (Pickles was not so impressed by me). Thank you for all your help and a great time!

This was my first Workaway experience, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better one. Lisa made me feel welcome straight away, and from the beginning it felt like being in a warm and cozy home. I felt comfortable and included the whole time. I helped hang Christmas lights, which turned out to be such a fun and festive job. It really got me into the holiday spirit! Everything felt relaxed. Lisa is kind, creative, and inspiring , and I really enjoyed spending time together and having good conversations. And of course, sweet Aloy made the experience even more special 🐾 I would definitely recommend staying with Lisa. It was such a lovely first Workaway experience, and I’m truly grateful Thank you again!

Taylor and her brother Aiden were an excellent addition to our daily life. They were willing and helpful in every way. They had great skills with both home life (cooking, cleaning, childcare) and outdoor practical jobs (weeding, raking, spraying, helping with animals). They were easy to talk to and yet also enjoyed their own space and making the most of seeing the area. We really enjoyed their company and wish them all the best for the rest of their trip together around NZ. Cheers guys!

We had the absolute pleasure of hosting Issy for a month, and she truly became a part of our family. From the moment she arrived, her kindness and generosity shone through. She surprised us with sweets and shared beautiful stories about her own family, creating a wonderful bond between us. Key Highlights of Her Stay: Dedicated Educator: Issy has a natural talent and a genuine love for teaching. She taught English to our students with so much passion, successfully motivating them and boosting their confidence. Proactive & Helpful: On her very first day, she went above and beyond by offering travel grants during our one-day workshop. She is incredibly active and always looking for ways to contribute. Easy-Going Personality: Issy is very adaptable and friendly. She never had a single complaint and embraced our way of life with an open heart. Cultural Immersion: One of our favorite memories was attending a traditional Sri Lankan wedding together. She looked absolutely stunning in a sari and embraced our culture with grace and respect. Issy is a vibrant, generous, and easy-going person who brings light into any home she enters. We are so thankful for her time here and wish her every success in her future travels. Issy, you are welcome back anytime! We hope to see you again soon. 🙌

Anna brought such wonderful energy and enthusiasm to our home. She was attentive, punctual, polite, and always willing to help. Even without prior experience, she showed an incredible attitude—eager to learn, open to feedback, and happy to share her knowledge and skills with us. Her positive spirit made every day lighter and more enjoyable. She also left us with spectacular photographs that we will truly treasure. We are very grateful for the time she spent with us and for everything she contributed. Thank you, Anna — we wish you all the best in your next adventures!

Kris and his three friends from Denmark were an absolute pleasure to host. They brought the best energy into our home from day one — always positive, respectful, and incredibly well-mannered. Their quality as people truly stood out. They were always punctual, responsible, and hardworking. No matter the task, they never said no and consistently gave their maximum effort. Their commitment and attitude made a real difference in everything they helped us with. Beyond work, they fully embraced daily life with us. They shared meals, played football, got to know the town, and genuinely integrated into our routine and community. It felt less like hosting volunteers and more like having friends at home. We are very grateful for their time here and we are already looking forward to welcoming them back soon!
