    Description

Hello everyone! We are a family of 5 - mum and dad in mid-late 30s and 3 kids, 2, 4 and 6yos. We live on the beautiful NSW mid-North Coast in a regional city called Coffs Harbour. Our house is about 800m walk to the beach and the creek mouth and we also live very close to a network of walkways along Coffs Creek. It is a beautiful part of the world. I was a helpx(er), which is like workaway, when I was in my early 20s and it really helped me learn french and I am still friends with the family today. My husband speaks good German, fair Swedish, and I speak fairly good French and beginner German. We are trying to teach the kids German. We were living in Leipzig in Germany when we met. Coffs Harbour is home to a bunch of beautiful beaches, cafes, restaurants etc many a walk from our house.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

My husband is English, I am Australian and we have both traveled and lived in different places in the world. We love connecting with people from anywhere and learning about your home and culture. You are welcome to come with us to our church and then while you're here to reach out and connect with other travelers or locals. Staying with families is a great way to work on learning language and was very helpful for me when I lived in France. So we are very happy to help you with English.

  • Help

    Help

We have some projects around the house - painting walls, gardening, garden-bed building, lawn mowing, hedge trimming, replacing fly screens, sanding the deck, house cleaning and cooking, etc that we would love some help with. Alternatively, you could help with the kids while we get the chance to do some of these things. Sometimes we will be doing the tasks with you if we can get the chance with our work and kid demands, other times it will be you doing them by yourselves...kind of like being part of a large family ecosystem.
For now we can host one or 2 travellers (sharing a queen bed) in our spare room upstairs with a shared bathroom. And possibly a small family.

This host offers a language exchange
We've all experienced being language learners in other countries and are very happy to help you learn English! The kids are great with that. We are also happy to work on our German, Swedish (only for my husband, Mark) or French. One day I would also love to learn Spanish

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have a 4 bedroom house with one spare bedroom for you to stay in. It has a queen size bed. We also have a fold-out couch in the living room that could accommodate 1 or 2 more people but really is only possible for short stays. So it would suit 1 or 2 travellers happy to share a queen bed. It would also be possible to fit a few kids on mattresses on the floor if a family wanted to come but might also be a shorter-term stay.

Food would be shared provided for all meals and you would be able to eat whatever we have in the house. If you like cooking, we would be happy for some of the work to be in food preparation and cooking.

    What else ...

We live a walk away from the beach. It is possible to access Central coffs harbour with a bike and even neighbouring Sawtell by bike if you're keen for a 30 minute cycle. We can also drop you places when we can.

    Can possibly accept pets

We have a pet sitting business, which is really only dog hosting. So if you had an animal that wasn't ok with other animals or potentially a cat, then it might not work.

A young girl stands barefoot on a rocky beach, surrounded by sand, stones, and lush green bushes under a blue sky with scattered clouds.
A person in a blue robe stands on a deck, watering a garden bed below with a hose, surrounded by green grass and trees.
Three children play on a sandy beach. Two sit on driftwood, one digs with a stick. Toys, sand, and the ocean create a joyful, adventurous atmosphere.
