Ju and Jacques are fun, energetic and engaging hosts. Their energy and enthusiasm for hosting and teaching volunteers has no bounds. No two days were the same - weeding, building, cooking, painting and so so so much more. We stayed in the pink house, with 2 other volunteers- the space is incredible literally feels like home, with everything you need to cook and feel comfortable. Basic provisions are provided and the local shops have everything else you need. We went to two incredible waterfalls with J & J, and shared pizzas and BBQs at the weekends.

Mo is a very relaxed, easygoing man to have around. He always sees the sunny side of life, even when things go wrong. We’ve shared a lot of laughs. Thank you for your stories and for all the work you’ve done. Now it's winter and we use the logs you prepared to stay warm!

I feel very lucky that my first stop in Brasil got to be this wild and magical place . It was the perfect place to deeply connect with Brasils nature - being surrounded by the elements, listening to the sounds of the Jungle while falling asleep, living and working with animals and tasting freshly cooked local foods. I also started to learn portuguese there, learn about the brasilian culture, made beautiful connections with other workers. For my work I was taking care of the horses there which was a very fulfilling task--they are such powerful and special beings that to me were very healing to spend time with as well as teaching me a lot about myself. The community life in Mari was super sweet--eating together everyday, hiking together, having movie nights, pool hangouts, parties and talks beneath the stars.. Also the accomondations were a dream! The huge property with so many small paths leading to different little cabins, tree houses, temples and things to discover was fascinating. Outside bathrooms, open kitchens, living so close to nature.. Very inspiring to see what can be made possible. My five weeks there went by super quickly but at the same time were filled with endless beautiful moments and so many diverse experiences and many new learnings. Meeting Mari was a true pleasure as well, what an inspiring, colorful and cool person, for real! Thank you endlessly for having me in your home, I love to dream back to my time! Lots of love, Dani!! <3

Aidan stayed at our place for 6 weeks looking after my dog and cat while I was away and did an excellent job!! He's great with animals and was proactive about doing maintenance around the place. He was very communicative before and during the workaway placement, making everything easy and stress free. Would definitely recommend Aidan if you're looking for a genuine hard working lad :)

Aly is al really nice, respectful and colaborative person, she help me a lot in the restoration process, sanding, painting, cleaning, removing some paint, plastering the walls. She learns very quickly and have a great energy and always want to help, She's the kind of person who gives her all, not just the bare minimum. Thank you so much, Aly, for all your help. I hope we can stay in touch soon and that you can visit us again whenever you like. 100% recommended! 😊

Gracias gracias gracias 🙌🏼❤️❤️

We truly enjoyed our stay here. The work was great - physical, outdoors, and working with well-trained horses made the work even more enjoyable. The communication with Shandelle was very direct. While this coudl be intense at times, it always ensured clarity. We really appreciated that we coudl talk to her about anything. She is very kind and caring, and always made sure we had everything we needed to feel comfortable. The family is lovely! Everly was always appreciative of our help, Taya is full of energy and laughters, and the youngest is simply adorable. Also, everyone else on the farm were great to work with. Overall, we enjoyed our time in Cowichan Bay a lot, and are very thankful for the experience and the people we met along the way. Thanks for everything!

I finished an amazing 4 month stay last summer working at the hotel Resort on Lake Garda, and I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences on workaway! The location is pure magic right on stunning Lago di Garda, with breathtaking lake views, easy access to swimming spots, hiking trails, and charming villages My hosts, Mathis and Verina, were wonderful. They run the place with passion and care, and they made me feel truly welcome from day one. And the rest of the kite team super nice too! Everyone was friendly, fun, and supportive we laughed a lot, helped each other out during busy shifts, and often hung out together after work. It felt like a real family/team vibe, which made the whole stay so enjoyable. my work was mainly in the hotel bar: mixing and serving drinks (including some great Italian spritzes and cocktails), taking orders, keeping things clean and stocked, handling guests, and pitching in for events or peak evenings. with plenty of free time to explore the lake, relax, or just soak up the sun. Accommodation was comfortable and practical, with access to the work place by bikes good facilities in an historic village. I learned much about bar service, Italian hospitality, The best parts were the stunning setting, the great team spirit, the laughs with colleagues, and feeling like I was part of something special. If you're into hospitality work water sport trail love beautiful nature, want a longer stay to really immerse yourself, and appreciate a friendly, positive team this is a perfect ! Huge thanks to Mathis, Verina, and the whole crew for making it such a memorable, happy time. I left with a big smile. Would work again: Definitely yes!

Before meeting SJ and Diwr, when we were exchanging audio messages on What'sApp, I was impressed with their clear communications with me. It was a great way to begin, and gave me confidence to have them come to my farm. A friend, who has had volunteers through WorkAway, had told me to not have volunteers who are under 25 years old. SJ and Diwr proved that to be wrong. SJ and Diwr are mature young people and it was a pleasure to have them around. As I write now, they have been here for over seven weeks, in two sessions. My experience with them has been 5 star. They have been very easy to work with. I am a 75 y..o. man, and it has been like having my grandchildren here. They are quiet and respectful of me and my personal space. They have gracefully endured the challenges in their living quarters, as we bumped into and solved problems that I was unaware of. SJ and Diwr have an excellent work ethic; always on time for the work day, always willing to do what I needed done. They enjoy working together, and did the tasks that I had for them better than I expected, going above and beyond. I highly recommend SJ and Diwr.

Wowowow. How could I possibly put this experience into words? I have been bragging about my time in the Ariege for months! This was my first Workaway experience, and I couldn't be happier with it. Ian and Noemi immediately took me in as a member of their family. Work was varied, though we focused on the carpentry side of things (I'm a carpenter), but I got the sense that they would cater to anyone's abilities and strengths. We aimed for 5 hours shifts with a nice long lunch in the middle of the day, but some days were shorter, and some days were field trips! Work was very straight forward, well communicated, and never stressful. They also made a big effort to introduce me to their friends and neighbors, who were all super lovely despite my horrible French speaking skills. In my free time I often went for long walks to neighboring villages, sometimes on bike rides to further villages (thanks Noemi!), and sometimes on very unique adventures- like a hike in the Pyrenees, and even a trip to the local circus (thanks Ian!). They also took me to a Tango class! In regards to their hospitality, I feel super grateful to have chosen these two as my hosts. I had some life stuff going on and they were so kind and understanding and intuitive about giving me support and space. When I moved into Bussie, it just so happened to also be a nice warm place for a few resident spiders to keep warm in the fall season, which I did my best with, but eventually I ended up moving into the house for my final couple weeks which I am incredibly grateful for Noemi and Ian for being so accommodating. The bus was stunning though and so private and well located on the property, and I did enjoy my time spent there. The river is only a few steps away, as well as a pool and lovely outdoor shower. Lastly, I just want to comment on Noemi and Ian's characters. I feel like I made true friends during my stay in the beautiful Ariege, and though life still persisted despite our plans to spend so much time together, I feel that their humanness made me feel so comfortable, and they were so patient and caring. The food was INCREDIBLE - the meals were often a large spread of dishes, mostly garden fresh - thanks again to Noemi for all of your efforts, and Ian as well on the days Noemi had other plans! I am so grateful for this experience and for really getting to witness the culture of this special area of France, with the most exceptional hosts. I would love to come back for a visit, and would highly recommend reaching out to these two beautiful souls for your next workaway! Love, Kaitie x x x x

My time in this project was truly special. From the very beginning, I felt like one more member of the family. This family is incredibly loving, open-hearted, and unique. They touched my heart, and after spending time with them, I feel that my soul is fuller and deeply rewarded. They are truly special people. Living off-grid with them is not just volunteering, but a meaningful life experience. Daily activities are shared with intention, warmth, and care, and there is always something to learn. Their way of living, based on simplicity, cooperation, and respect for nature, is inspiring and grounding. Thomas is very knowledgeable in homestead, building and self sufficiency, and Jacintha’s warmth and ability to hold community and family life together gives the place a beautiful balance. The atmosphere of the home is full of care, music, shared meals, and genuine connection. I met most of their family, and they are really lovely people with very special names! I am deeply grateful for this experience and for having met such extraordinary people. I would highly recommend this project to anyone seeking an authentic off-grid experience, human connection, and a slower, more conscious way of living. Much love. Neus

Ladina stayed with us from October through December 2025. And we miss her already! She settled so quickly into our busy life, had in no time a clear understanding how all the elderly animals needed to be treated with all their different meds and treatments. She became especially attached to Archie, our senior rabbit but no animal - great or small - posed a difficulty for her. She was also a great help in the house, confident when cooking meals, super efficient cleaning and always with a big smile. We had so much fun playing cards in the evening, doing crafts and Christmas cooking and baking. Time simply flew by. We give her the BEST references and hope very much to see her again soon, even if it is for a shorter time or just a visit!

I spent six weeks on the farm with Katelyn and Marguerite. It was my first Workaway experience and I couldn't have imagined anything better. Every day, I fed the horses in the morning and evening. The rest of the work was always varied, which kept things interesting. For example, I got to do groundwork with the ponies, groom them, or ride them in the arena or the forest. Sometimes we stacked firewood for the cold winter days, worked in the garden, or I helped Marguerite frame her paintings for her art exhibitions. I lived in a small house next to the main house where I had my own room with a view to the horse paddocks. Katelyn's teahouse is also on the farm, and it's really beautifully decorated. There was leftover hot chocolate and crêpes almost every day. Meals were cooked twice a day for everyone, either by Katelyn or together with the other volunteers. I really appreciated how much trust Marguerite had in me when it came to the horses. I really enjoyed being able to work so much with the horses and ponies. I would definitely come back anytime and would highly recommend this Workaway placement to horse lovers.
