    Description

    Hi there! We are a cheerful German - Icelandic family of 4 living in beautiful countryside in South Iceland, about 100 km from Reykjavík, the Icelandic capital. We live on a farm, but it is not a working farm, our animals are strictly pets. We have a few horses, rabbits, chicken, cat and a dog - most of them rescues!

    We live in stunning landscape with views of volcanoes and glaciers. Great area for hiking. I am usually working from home, my husband works in a nearby community. We have had aupair girls for about 10 years and it has been a lovely experience. They have been like our daughters and have returned many times as friends. But now our kids have outgrown the babysitters and we just need a little help in the house and with the pets. Also some house & farm sitting so that we - as a family - can get away once in a while for a town or ski excursion. Since our kids are already 20 and 17 years old, they do not need anybody to watch over them anymore, but it is nice to have somebody "adult" around to care for the animals, when we, the parents, are away. So we thought we give workaway a try as a form of cultural exchange to get to know you and to give you a chance to get to know the daily life in Iceland, learn about its amazing geology and history. I am a professional tour guide and love to talk about Iceland and its many wonders!
    Hours would be max 25 light help per week in exchange for accommodation and food. You would have your own little cozy and bright studio apartment with a sleeping couch and private bathroom. Meals are taken with the family. The help needed would be light house/garden work (1-2 hours daily) and some help with the pets (2 -3 hours daily) and once in a while some house sitting. Native English, Scandinavian or German speakers would be preferable.

    We would favor a female workaway who loves horses and animals and has already some experience in taking care of horses and animals in general, but you do not need to be an expert rider!

    In general:
    Strictly non-smokers only. We can also only accommodate ONE person at a time, so please refrain from applying if you are a couple or family. We hope you understand. Thank you !

    ============
    We have been lucky to find enough wonderful workaways for 2025 but we are now accepting applications for 2026.
    Please only apply if you can come for a whole period of 10 - 12 weeks in 2026. A week to and fro is not a problem, but we simply do not offer short term placements of a few weeks only. We hope you understand!

    Period A: ca. January 3rd - ca. March 31st 2026, approx. 10- 12 weeks
    Period B: ca. April 1st - ca. June 30th 2026, approx. 10-12 weeks
    Period C: ca. July 1st - ca. September 30th 2026, approx. 10- 12 weeks
    Period D: ca. October 1st - ca. December 18th 2026, approx. 9-10 weeks

    All the best to you!
