Hi there! We are a family of 4 living in beautiful countryside in South Iceland, about 100 km from Reykjavík, the Icelandic capital. We live on a farm, but it is not a working farm (just pets). We have a few horses, pet goat, rabbits, chicken, dog and cat - most of them rescues! We live in stunning landscape with views of volcanoes and glaciers. Great area for hiking and horseback riding. Both parents work from home office but have to travel once in a while. But one parent is always at home. We have had aupair girls for about 10 years and it has been a lovely experience. They have been like our daughters and have returned many times as friends. But now our kids have outgrown the babysitters and we just need a little help in the house, with the pets and mainly some house & farm sitting so we can get away once in a while for a town or ski excursion. Since our kids are already 15 and 13 years old they do not need watching, just nice to have somebody adult around, since the next farm is about 2 km away. So we thought we give workaway a try! :-) Hours would be max 25 light help per week in exchange for accommodation and food. You would have your own little studio apartment with sleeping couch and private bathroom. Help would be light housework and some help with the pets and once in a while some house sitting. Native English or German speakers preferred. We prefer workaways that can stay a min. of 4-6 weeks and we can only accommodate one person at a time. Strictly non-smokers only.

We live in stunning landscape with views of volcanoes and glaciers. Great area for hiking and horseback riding. If you are a horse person, you might be able to ride with us in your free time (only possible from March/April to September). Please note: Not beginners horses, only for experienced horse riders. Mother is a professional tour guide and works for a tour operator called Exploring Iceland and can provide lots of information about Icelandic geology, history and culture.

Perfect area for hiking and horse back riding! There are local buses to Reykjavík but only once a day. Please note that we can accommodate vegetarians as we eat hardly any meat ourselves but unfortunately we cannot accommodate vegans. Accommodating people with special diets such as gluten or lactose allergies could be tricky due to long distance to shops and needs to be discussed on a individual basis. We live rather remote in the countryside, about 2 km to the next farm but please note there are no bars, pubs or cafés around ;-) Just good to know for you! If you come to stay with us you need to be able to fill your free time with hiking, playing with the animals, reading or that kind of stuff. We do not have WIFI, instead we talk to each other! You can bring a LAN connection to connect to the Ethernet. We do not have unlimited usage so make sure that you can survive without scrolling your mobile phone all day long. But we have tons of books, games and we are always up for a chat. We are a very cheerful and active family :-)
Please note: Iceland's borders have remained open to other EU and Schengen states throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, but Iceland continues to implement travel restrictions and testing and quarantine measures, which you will have to follow strictly. More information on travel restrictions on official Icelandic government sites.
