    Description

I am a Canadian marine biologist living and working in Mozambique. I run a small research center in Praia de Zavora, a small, remote fishing village. I work on various conservation projects, with the overall goal of protecting species and habitats within Zavora Bay. Zavora is a beautiful, quiet place surrounded by nature, Mozambican culture, and beautiful beaches. If you come to stay in Zavora, you will really get a feel for what it's like to live in rural Africa!

Travelers will be immersed in Mozambican culture and life in rural Africa. They will learn how to live a simple life with just the basics (don't worry, we have running water, electricity and internet connection)! Travelers can learn to cook local dishes with our neighbours, have a beer at the local village, and explore Zavora's natural beauty.

    Help

I am looking for someone who has building/construction experience that can help me with basic maintenance and building around the research center. Due to Zavora's remoteness and the difficulty of getting "modern" items, creativity is a must!

    What else ...

If you are an outdoorsy person, there is lots to do in Zavora. Snorkel in our local rock pool (the diversity is amazing!), long walks on the beach, trips up to the lighthouse or Lake Poelela for sunset, or simply just relaxing in hammock with a book. If you are looking for a more social scene, Tofo/Barra is a 2 hour drive from Zavora, and here you can eat from a selection of nice restaurants and bars, and even enjoy some upbeat nightlife. There are other towns and villages around that we can also recommend, and would be happy to help you plan a weekend away!
