Wow! The hostel is literally a blessing. All of the staff is so lovely, everything is well organized, everyone is so understanding. It was such a great experience for me to get even more comfortable guiding meditations. I highly recommend it here! I miss it so much. Everyone felt like family. Markus was such a lovely manger and very kind and easy to talk to and feel comfortable around. He took everything into consideration! Also the hostel attracts the most lovely people. It feels like home away from home with many people extending so you get to make long term friends. side note: I recommend learning how to drive a scooter so that you can get around the island because there is no public transportation. (I was so scared at first but very easily got comfortable when I drove slow and to the far left, being very cautious until I got comfortable).

We had the pleasure of hosting Ada from China for a few weeks this month, and she was a wonderful addition to our home. Ada worked hard and was always willing to help, keeping the house tidy and organised. She was also fantastic with the kids. They really enjoyed spending time with her, especially learning about her culture and doing crafts together to celebrate Chinese New Year. Her delicious cooking was definitely a highlight as well. On a personal level, I really appreciated Ada’s honesty, thoughtfulness, and the interesting conversations we shared about life. She brought a calm and positive energy into our home. We are very grateful for the time we had with Ada and wish her all the very best for her next adventures.

Caterina and Adrian were a pleasure to host, easy to have around, respectful of us all biddies' timing and space. They worked diligently and very effectively, with minum supervision, at every - rather boring - job I gave them, weeding, painting, cleaning, etc. If I had a complaint, it would be that they didn't stay long enough to get to know them more, maybe next time. I heartily recommend them, and wish them the best.

Francisco stayed with us for about three and a half months and took care of our home and our four cats with great care and reliability. We felt completely at ease leaving both the house and the pets in his hands, even for extended periods. Thanks to Francisco, we were able to travel with peace of mind. He also completed many helpful tasks around the house, such as painting windows and laying a floor, always with dedication and precision. He was consistently helpful, proactive, and never had an issue when asked to lend a hand. We’re truly grateful for his support and would highly recommend him to any future hosts!

I stayed for two weeks and worked together with Laura. Most of my tasks were in the garden (weeding and other jobs that came up), and I also did some light cleaning. Laura always gave me clear instructions, so I knew exactly what to do, and I really enjoyed working with her - I learned a lot about plants, and we had great conversations with plenty of laughs. I also loved staying in the cabin on their land, which offered both privacy and a very peaceful atmosphere. Once a week, Laura kindly took me to Pak’nSave for groceries and even invited me on a day trip, which I truly appreciated. She also gave me helpful tips on what to do and see in the area. Thank you very much for everything Laura and John.😊

The two weeks spent with them were an irreplaceable and unforgettable time.😍 First, Ariana and Francisco explained Italian food, culture, history, values, and daily life to me in great detail and with great care; every conversation was a pleasure!! Despite their busy schedules, they not only gave me such in-depth explanations but also took me sightseeing around Bologna, where we enjoyed pizza and explored historical buildings and the city's landmarks together! Thanks to them, I truly understood how deeply historic and beautiful Bologna is! Furthermore, we discovered differences and similarities between Japan and Italy, leading to fascinating conversations! For meals, they treated me to Italian home cooking and traditional dishes – things I couldn't get in Japan. I absolutely loved them all and now find myself craving pasta!🍝 The children were lively, bright, and full of energy! Even though I couldn't speak Italian, they were kind, sometimes teaching me words, drawing pictures together, and doing origami! They were utterly adorable and my little angels during my stay! Ariana, Francesco, Olivia, and Margot possessed curiosity, an inquiring mind, and open-mindedness, ensuring my stay was always comfortable and enjoyable. I am truly grateful.🥳 There couldn't be a more perfect family for a WorkAway host. I also met many of their friends, sometimes going out together and enjoying parties!! I genuinely adore everyone I met here. I will definitely go back to see them. I look forward to meeting them again in Japan!! Ciaooo;) Chihiro

Sangdeok stayed with us one and a half month, mostly at the finca and a few days at the beach house too We really feel so blessed meeting him and sharing this time with him, he is an amazing human being, extremely kind, interesting, funny, but serious and hard working, quick and perfectionnist in the meantime..., so nice with the children...and such an amazing cook! we had the impression to get corean restaurant catering at home! so delicious the way he cooks and patient to explain me lots of things. He was helping us with many different things: repairing tents with sewing, mixing concrete, cleaning and tidying up outdoor areas, accommodations, painting, diy jobs and technical jobs, helping looking after and playing with the children, taking care of the dog, cats, chicken and chicken babies, guinea pigs, even when we were not there, teaching us many times Korean words,.always patiently :) he has got such a nice, calming, friendly energy, it felt very good having him around, we all miss him and the kids send him voice messages almost every day! thank you for your gladly offered help, delicious meals and all conversations and fun we had! hope to see you again soon!

Beautiful souls like Kate restore ones faith in humanity, they remind you of why you opened your door, and to continue to do so. Kate stayed over a month with us. She emersed herself into the farm life and adopted the furry babies as her own, she loved, and genuinely cared for them. She was part of the family and whomever met her just loved her. Her beautiful friendly smile is magical, and her serious facial expression will leave you warned. If she reach out to you (hosts), welcome her with open warm arms. She came alone and left with plus one 💚🫒 True adventurer, we miss you and love to see you back.

I had a fantastic week with Blue. The area and Blue's house are gorgeous and definitely feel like a little piece of paradise. Blue taught me lots of new things and I got to drive a tractor for the first time. Working with Blue is fun and you have to ask him to give you enough to do. The absolute highlight, however, was the great conversations I had with Blue! I had one of the best weeks here in New Zealand and wish I could stay longer! Happy to see you again Blue!

Raymond stayed with me for a week, and I really enjoyed having him here. He is very polite, kind, easy going, and respectful. He was interested in everything happening here, asked questions, and made an effort to interact and connect with everyone staying here at the time, even tho some other workawayers staying here couldn't speak such great English. He cooked some great dishes from Malaysia to share with us all on his cooking nights, and also another time just so we could try a special breakfast dish from Malaysia. He happily applied himself to any task asked of him around the gardens, and inside and outside the house. And really put a lot of care in to everything he did so that it was done to a high standard. I would welcome Raymond back any time and recommend him to other hosts.

Marissa came in may 2025, and stayed a month. From day one it was a delight to have her around. Very happy personality and helpful. I noticed that I never had to ask her to do her chores, or some smal extras, she just planed all herself, and all of a sudden e.g. my house was cleaner than it had been for years. She was keen on seeing and visiting smal and big sights nearby. We had fun driving around, she wanted to drive herself, and pretty soon she funtioned as my private chauffeur. She also went on weekend trips on her own, or hooked up with other travelers. Overall I recomend her, and sure would welcome her again some time. Thanks Marissa.

Hi, we had Marie stay with us for 10 days, she is a lovely woman who is very capable working in the garden and anything else within our home. We enjoyed having Marie stay with us and enjoyed our conversation. Marie was wanting to improve her English but we felt it was very good and there was only one or two words that she stumbled on. Marie enjoyed looking around Oamaru and going for walks. We wish Marie well on her travels and she is always welcome to call into our home again. Safe travels Marie, kind regards Brenda and Ernest.

We stayed for more than three weeks at Casa de Barro and absolutely fell in love with the place. The hostel itself is truly one of a kind, and Luna and Victor are the most joyful hosts. We worked six days a week for four hours a day (cleaning, reception, chores, etc.) and had one day off to explore the surroundings. We absolutely loved the experience, thank you for having us!

we were here in February for about two weeks. during this time we picked and organized sticks for fires, picked fresh dried thyme, trimmed the vines in the vineyards, harvested potatoes/black berries and other vegetables, and cleaned the cabins when guests would come/go. it was super relaxed being here- the stars were absolutely amazing to see at night! you'll be living with Tanza (hey Tanza!) and she plus Will will tell you what needs to be done each day. a lot of the food you'll be provided is from the garden on the property. there is a cat and two dogs (used to be three) on the property who are all friendly. super peaceful place to be- remember to bring cash with you when you get there btw! a minimum of 50,000 because there are no atms. there are a couple of tiny stores in Las Peñas you can get chips and yogurt and beer from. the river was also great for swimming. super chill, beautiful and peaceful area to be, would recommend, especially if you want to be somewhere immersed in nature and take a break from loud cities!

A week-long stay that extends to almost two, it’s always good sign: the moments shared with Coni and Michel in this piece of paradise will remain forever engraved in our memories. We discussed, learned, cooked, ate, laughed, played, worked, ... lived, and well lived. Seeing with what enthusiasm and love this place, and the people who have the chance to stay there, are treated is a pleasure to see. We can only recommend the experience to our peers, go there without questioning yourself more. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Léo and Chadi.

I had an excellent time at the finca! it was quite a difference from my regular day to day life, but Brian was so cool to talk to, so full of information and very understanding. His passion and excitement for what he's creating is palpable and admirable and he was an excellent host. If you want to get out of your comfort zone and have a really cool experience, you should definitely check this place out. I tried more fruits than I could've imagined and got to learn about deforestation and natural building, which was awesome! Brian, thanks so much for hosting me and being a really welcoming and understanding person. I appreciate the conversations as well. I would love to see some updated pictures in the future! (I also ate a whole watermelon for breakfast yesterday and that was a lot 😂).

Staying with Jennifer, Cory & team here was an experience we’ll always be grateful for. From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely looked after and included, which made the whole experience feel much more like staying with friends than volunteering somewhere new. The accommodation alone made the stay exceptional. Having our own little house was such a luxury — comfortable, peaceful, and fully kitted out with a proper kitchen and everything we needed. It gave us space to relax after work and made it easy to settle into a rhythm while we were there. The work was varied and satisfying. Watering the plants each day, hunting for bamboo shoots, helping build trails, and painting the wooden furniture around the property were all tasks where you can actually see the difference you’ve made straight away. It felt meaningful and hands-on in the best way. The yoga studio was another highlight. It’s such a warm, peaceful space and quickly became our favourite spot to do our workouts and stretch after a day of projects. And the food deserves a special mention. The rice, beans and eggs that were shared with us kept us very well fed — especially the beans, which were honestly some of the tastiest we’ve had. We definitely didn’t expect to eat that well (or that much!). All in all, we left feeling grateful, well fed, and really glad we came and could contribute. It’s a warm, welcoming place created with real care, and we would absolutely recommend staying with Jennifer, Cory & family.
