Christian was a very discreet, respectful, and pleasant Workawayer. He fully respected the house rules and showed great autonomy throughout his stay. He has strong DIY skills, particularly in garden maintenance, forestry work, and outdoor painting, all of which he carried out with care and efficiency. His help was truly valuable and allowed us to make significant progress on our project. We sincerely thank him for his involvement and would highly recommend him without hesitation.

Jose stayed here, camping on the land and helping out with a variety of tasks, including the olive harvest. He worked well, was reliable, and put in a solid effort each day. He followed instructions, showed initiative when needed, and completed the work to a good standard. Beyond the work, he was friendly, respectful, and easy to have around, which made the experience very enjoyable. I appreciated his positive attitude and willingness to help. I would definitely recommend him to other hosts and would be happy to host him again in the future.

I spent two months with Johanna and her family, and it was truly a special and unforgettable experience! Johanna is a kind, energetic, and hardworking person. She is very skilled in crafts, and she and her mother taught me how to make traditional Sami handicrafts. During my stay, Johanna also made sure I had many opportunities to try Sami traditional foods, as well as Norwegian and Swedish dishes. It was fascinating to experience how reindeer and moose meat are part of everyday meals. I also enjoyed cooking for the family as they always gave me great compliments!😆 Heaika is equally kind and hardworking (and he was really good at making me giggle!) He has great knowledge about reindeer and taught me many things. Learning directly from someone so deeply connected to reindeer herding was an incredible experience. In Karasjok, I lived in a van, and Johanna and Heaika made sure it was always warm and comfortable. In Kiruna, I had my own room in their house. I loved having the chance to live in both Norway and Sweden. As their work locations change with the seasons, workawayers may have the opportunity to stay in several different places, which makes the experience even more unique! One highlight I absolutely must mention is that they took me to reindeer separation, one of the most important events in Sami reindeer herding. I was able to see—and even help with—an incredible number of reindeer alongside local Sami herders. I feel very fortunate to have witnessed this practice and to learn how this tradition is still maintained today. My daily tasks included household chores and spending time with their lovely, energetic children. Playing outside with them—kicksledding, skiing, building snow castles, and going for walks—was so much fun. Watching them learn and grow day by day was truly heartwarming. Spending time with the children gave me many new perspectives, and I also learned a lot about caring for a baby from their youngest daughter, who is 1.5 years old! Thank you so much, Johanna and Heaika, for welcoming me into your family, sharing your beautiful way of life, and teaching me about Sami traditions. I hope you will visit Japan one day, so I can share my culture with you as well!✨

I cannot recommend this volunteering experience enough. I arrived on the first day of Ramadan, not knowing how long I would stay, and I ended up staying for more than six months. From the first day, you are welcomed like part of a family. The teachers and students are kind, happy, and curious to meet people from all over the world. You will have many chances to join classes, feel supported and guided, and also suggest your own activities — whether it’s art, gardening, English, cooking, and more. The school is located in a beautiful area, surrounded by nature. You are fully immersed in the daily life and rhythm of the school, and you will also have many opportunities to take part in cultural and community events. This is a truly beautiful and unique opportunity to support an amazing project and to immerse yourself in everyday life in Lombok, Indonesia.

Elisabeth was a huge help. I can truly recommend hosting her, as she is super motivated, fun to talk to, and has lots of skills. After staying with us for the first time, she came back several times, and I'm always happy to see her again. Hopefully we'll have many more encounters, and thank you for everything.

This is a beautiful spot near the lake, kept pure with monkeys everywhere! I enjoyed the peaceful outside and the variety of work from gardening to creating a natural wall/border for the land. Whenever it got too hot I could switch to some shade and clear the fallen leaves and pile the branches for firewood. Thank you Marco for sharing this beautiful little paradise!

Geirgianna & Owen are wonderful people and fantastic volunteers. During their stay with us, they helped with a wide range of tasks — from picking mandarins and cleaning rooms to assisting with painting and helping in the kitchen. They were always willing to help, very proactive, and handled every task responsibly and on time. Beyond the practical help, they brought a great energy to the place. Both are positive, polite, and genuinely interesting people to talk to, and it was a pleasure sharing everyday life with them. We spent a very fruitful month together, after which they continued their journey. I would be very happy to host them again in the future — either as volunteers or simply as guests — and can warmly recommend them to any host.

Rafa's house is a great way to truly experience rural Mexico. He is an excellent communicator, always keeping me in the loop with what needed done or when food was ready or just checking in with me. The jobs were simple and easily accomplished. I would work in the garden weeding, or helping to water the lawn and plants. Several days while I was there we had large groups of guests so that would mean helping to clean or do laundry. It was never too much and there was usually plenty of time to get the things finished. Rafa would also always help if he was home. I enjoyed walking to the local market daily to see and experience daily life in a small Mexican town. We went to see the pyramids that are close by for a nice day trip. We also went to Mexico City to explore and we stayed with his parents, who are so kind and welcoming. The food situation worked out well for me. I would buy a few things for myself that I specifically wanted and most days Rafa would cook the meals, which were always delicious!! I would chip in for the cost of the food sometimes when we were in the market and I could help. I never minded because it wasn't that expensive and to me, this is what 'sharing the food expenses' means. And I can't complete this feedback without mentioning his sweet dog, Sanson. I connected with this sweet pup instantly and he became a fast friend! I would be weeding in the garden and Sanson was never far away, such a sweet pup!! Thank you Rafa for a great and memorable first time in Mexico! I am grateful for your kindness, hospitality and generosity. You and your family welcomed me and treated me like family. Thank you!

This was my first Workaway experience, and I stayed with Jara for two months. I never would have thought that Jara and the kids would take such a special place in my heart ❤️ From the very beginning, Jara made me feel like part of the family, like a friend, like a sister. Even though my Spanish is basic, I was able to communicate well with the kids, and staying alone with them felt safe right from the start. Putting the kids to bed or going to the park quickly became part of my daily routine, and I truly enjoyed it. Jara and I shared the tasks, and I never felt overwhelmed. We also did many things together, like going to the beach or the mountains. But to be honest, it was the simple moments like laughing until we had tears in our eyes at dinner that made this stay so special. (And Jara is an amazing cook 🤫) Gracias por todo. Os echo de menos. <3

Ramon has enriched our family life for two months in a wonderful way. He was very careful and reliable with all household tasks, cooked regularly, and was incredibly warm and patient with our children. Ramon is easygoing, open-minded, and genuinely interested in the people and culture around him. He is very well self-organized, always helpful, and absolutely trustworthy. We felt very lucky to have him as part of our family! We highly recommend Ramon to future hosts and would be more than happy to welcome him back to our home anytime.

My Workaway stay with Danie and Suzanne was truly amazing. Working on the farm itself was not only enjoyable but also grounding — it really brought me back down to earth. I loved the variety of work, especially because I was always welcome to bring in my own ideas and be creative. I stayed for three weeks, and somehow it felt more like three days. Time just flew by, and I would definitely recommend staying longer if you can. From the very beginning, Danie, Suzanne, the kids, and life on the farm made me feel completely at ease. Everything was pretty chilled, and I always felt welcome — whether it was spending time in their house or simply asking for anything I needed. I stayed in my own small cabin, which was cozy, comfortable, and had everything I needed. Playing with Miah was a lot of fun, and at the same time I always felt respected — whenever I needed a break or some alone time, it was never a problem. To sum it up: a beautiful place with even more beautiful people. I’m already looking forward to coming back one day.

Thank you, Santiago & Daniela, for such a thoughtful and honest reflection of your time and experience with us. We really appreciate the way you captured the spirit of the place and the intention behind what we’re building here. It was a pleasure hosting you, and we’re grateful for the energy and care you brought to the Jardin. Your positive vibes, playful energy, and willingness to help with a variety of tasks and projects made you excellent volunteers. We enjoyed hearing you laugh and share cultures with the other volunteers and are very thankful for all that we learned, shared and improved on together during your stay. These are great people, adaptable, understanding, highly social, smart, fun to be around, collaborative and generally good energy, don't hesitate to host them. We would highly recommend both of you to any and all other hosts that you are interested in volunteering with and welcome you back to the Jardin with open arms for anytime that you would like to spend in our region. Wishing you both meaningful travels ahead. Best wishes, Darrell & Clarissa

Staying in the Hostel was wonderful, Camila and Chris are really nice people, very warm and ready to help in every way they can. Our plan was to stay with them 1 month, but as we got really comfortable with them and the volunteering we ended staying for almost 3!! The work is really good, we did 5 hours per 4 days a Week, and the other days were free, the place is really good and we had a staff room so we were relaxed with our stuff. I really recommend to come to the Hostel, make it your home and a place to meet people and make friends.

oh ziggy, the wonderhost. If there was ever a person that embodies the spirit of Workaway, it is this man. So open to every type of person, ecouraging each soul to put whatever love into the land they're called to, he really offers a fantastic exchange opportunity. Everyday, Ziggy falls in love with his land, an energy that cannot help but to wiggle it's way into your body. Careful coming here, because you might return home utterly inspired to drop it all, go off grid and commune with the wonders of nature everyday. Ziggy is incredibly open, and committed to find a living//working structure that works for everyone. He worked with me to find our best rhythm for together, doing a split of gardening, carpentry, water management (drainage ditches), and off grid living duties: cooking, cleaning, composting etc.. As a budding builder, it was incredible to get to work with and learn from a man whose spent all his life in the building trades. He has a real eye for detail, beauty and harmony. I would go back in a heartbeat to learn more skills in the craft. Ziggy was also committed to showing me the magic of Connemara, with rural roadtrips and weekend adventures to Westport for music. I recommend anyone thinking about off grid, slower ways of life to take the leap with zyg, you will surely remember it for the rest of your life. I have experienced real healing of the body and soul in that wonderful valley, things I cannot forget. Many blessings to this man and this land, I hope our paths cross in the future.
