Luca and Mirko, it was such a gift having you guys with us for that month. You guys truly became part of the family, and your energy made the hostel feel even more like home for everyone else. We’re especially going to miss the nightly cooking sessions! The kitchen always smelled incredible when you two were in there, and seeing everyone gather around to share a meal was the highlight of our evenings. Thank you for bringing people together through your food and your kindness. We’re so glad you found those deep connections here in JBay. Would highly recommend Luca & Mirko for their kind, honest approach to the hostel, and always going the extra mile. You’ll always have a home here. Safe travels, and don’t be strangers Regards, Daryn, Kiera, and Jason

It was great having Edgar here. He started for a week but ended staying nearly three. He is a hard worker, showed great initiative and was polite and absolutely no fuss to have in the house. Absolutely recommended him as a Workaway.

What can I say about the fellas….enthusiastic, fun, hard working guys. Almost every job I gave them was completed well and usually in half the time I expected. The garden is looking really great because of their work. They also helped get the worksite tidy and did a great job at scraping one of the 18th century ceilings. They were easy housemates to live with. They have a real passion for sport; running, cycling, basketball, football Thank you for your help and good company. Cool Beans!

We are very grateful to Johun for welcoming us into his villa for nearly two weeks. Staying in the mountains was a great experience and a perfect way to disconnect from the noise of the city. The environment is peaceful and unique, and we really enjoyed the time spent there. We also appreciated the opportunity to spend time with the family. Even though there was a language barrier at times, we were able to communicate and share moments in a positive and respectful way. The projects Johun is developing in the villa are very interesting, and it was great to be part of that environment. We are sure it will become something very special in the future. The food was always delicious (even if a bit spicy for us at times), and his mother is not only a great cook but also has a wonderful sense of humor, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Thank you again for everything — we hope to see you again in the future.

This is such a great Workaway to get in touch with nature. I will never forget the three weeks I spent with the super host Xaver in his forest paradise. The food cooked and provided by Xaver was delicious, plentiful and of high quality, some of the best recipes I’ve ever had in my life. The laughter flowed with music, Bavarian beer and great food almost always after a day of physically challenging yet spirituality rewarding work. Thank you Xaver my friend for the teachings and the freedom you provided, I will be back to see you again very soon.

Marissa was with us for about 6 weeks. Great, hard worker. We had two 18th century ceilings in need of cleaning and reinforcing to save them for the next 100 years. Marissa got straight into the task despite it’s challenges. She was absolutely easy to get along, live and work with! Very prompt with her timings and clear in her communications and needs. A neat and tidy housemate. We were fascinated by the stories of her previous career experience. I sincerely respect her dedication to her writing and passion for history :) We would gladly host Marissa again.

We had a very positive experience during our two weeks with this family. From the beginning, communication was clear and everything agreed upon was respected, which made the whole experience smooth and easy. The tasks were well organized and the environment was always comfortable and respectful. The family is very welcoming. The mother is an excellent cook and provides high-quality meals, and she is also very pleasant to spend time with. The father is friendly and communicative, always willing to help and make you feel part of the home. Their daughters are very polite, intelligent, and full of energy. We truly enjoyed the time we spent with them. We would recommend this experience to volunteers looking for a well-organized, family-oriented, and friendly environment. We are very grateful for the opportunity and the trust during our stay.

We had the best time looking after Crosby, Tommy & Rosie! We miss them so much already! Tony is so friendly & helpful and has lots of amazing recommendations. It was such a nice experience and a great way to explore the less touristy areas of Japan. Kumamoto is a really peaceful and relaxing place with everything you need like shopping centres, great restaurants and a castle too! The surrounding area is also beautiful - we recommend for you to go to the Mt Aso area! Tony's home is perfect, it has everything you need to relax but also keep yourself busy. The work is very easy, just taking Crosby the dog out for walks twice a day, cleaning up after the cats and of course cleaning up after yourself, making sure the house is tidy 😊 We really recommend staying with Tony, Crosby and the two cats, we had such an amazing time and we hope we can see them all again one day 😊

Absolutely loved my experience here for my first workaway and wished I could've stayed longer than a month. Everyone is so nice and welcoming. I loved all the animals & taking care of them and it honestly set my bar pretty high it'll be hard to beat!

Stayed at Lisa’s place for 10 days and I had a great time there. Lisa is a great host as she made sure that I can manage my time to explore Blue Mountain and surroundings. Lisa even suggested places to visit based on my preferences. Overall, the task is light, as main Job is to accompany Aloy and a helped a bit on gardening and cleaning. Aloy is a sweet and cute golden retriever. As described, she loves to play and cuddled. If you are naturally someone who cares for a dog, and keen to explore Blue Mountain, I would say Lisa’s place can be at the top of the priority list.

We had a great time at Siri’s place. She is a wonderful person and amazing host. She is very generous and always willing to help with whatever you need and she is also sweet and kind. Teaching and playing with local kids was pure joy, they are so eager to learn and full of energy. Siri has created such a positive, safe and welcoming place for the kids, and it was an honour to contribute to it. We are leaving with a full heart and a wonderful memories. We will never be able to thanks Siri enough ❤️ Grazie Sara and Francesco

Vaidas spent one month at our academy during February and March. He came with a lot of professional experience for creating videos and content. He joined us just before one of our big fitness sporting events, and with a very small amount of notice, he created some amazing promotional videos of the event that we've been able to use across our social media channels. Vaidas was super helpful and spent a lot of time teaching the kids how to improve their video and photography skills, allowing them to explore different ways to create fun and exciting content. He also took the time and effort in his spare time to take action shots and create videos of each of the kids performing martial arts and fitness, overlaid with interviews about their journey as stateless children and how martial arts has helped give them their freedom. Vaidas has a very supportive and calm nature that allowed the kids to feel confident, safe, and empowered. We are truly grateful for all of the time you spent at our academy, getting to know the kids on a deeper level as well as our project, so thank you 🙏 we really hope to see you again in the near future, and we wish you all of the luck in the world with your future adventures.

Meeting Squiz and Nud’s family was one of the most beautiful moment of my adventure in Australia. Squiz and Nud are incredibly kind-hearted people, truly wonderful individuals, and one of the most genuinely caring and benevolent families you could ever meet. From the moment I arrived, I was made to feel like a full member of the family, and I spent a splendid month by their side. The property is stunning, located in the hills of Melbourne in the heart of the Australian bush, with breathtaking views: a little piece of heaven. I have no words to describe how wonderful it was to meet you. Thank you for everything, you are amazing! Annabelle

I hosted Javi for about a week during Ramadan, and it was a really good experience. He’s a reliable and thoughtful person, and he genuinely committed his time and energy to helping improve my cabin. He fixed a hole in the wall, repaired some stairs, and even surprised me by buying some electronic items for the place, which I didn’t expect at all. Beyond the work, we had a great time together. We shared a lot of jokes, watched films (I agree, he has excellent taste), and travelled around locally. We ended up going to the same warung almost every day for lunch, and by the end even the owner knew him well. He also introduced me to Spanish, which I’m actually thinking of continuing to learn this year. Before he left, he painted my cabin. It’s hanging on the wall now. Javi, thank you for spending time at my cabin. I hope the experience stays with you in a good way, as it will for me. Gracias, nos vemos otra vez.

Tomas staying at the campsite for 2 weeks which i'm glad that he can help me to chase away the monkeys so that our durian trees is protected from the monkeys. when Maybe he's trying too hard that he snap my sling shot into half. :))) He also helps me watering the plants everyday as during his stay, we were having the dry season where we don't have any rains for few months. But overall, he's a good guy, can mingle with the other volunteers well and quiet independent.

My experience at La Poza Azul was everything I hoped for and more. Tomah is incredibly kind and welcoming. He learned me all sorts of new skills: working with nature and local materials, cooking from scratch (even chocolate from local cocao beans, so yummy!!) and he is a great Spanish teacher too. Every day was a new adventure. Living outside with an amazing view on the lake. Connecting with locals and making new friends. Playing with his dogs and cat. So fun! The place is quite remote, but it is perfect to slow down and really connect with the society. I worked in the morning and had the rest of the day off. Tomah is really flexible and chill. Communication went smoothly. He really wants the best for you. 10/10 would recommend. Can't wait to go back!!
