I spent 2 and a half weeks in Popayan. I did a variety of things for my volunteering here. I participated in English conversation nights three times a week. I prepared a presentation about Canada and shared it with each of the English classes and once for guests. I went on the Peace Walking Tour with Melania and then worked with her to translate one part of her tour into English. All the people involved, from the staff to the students are so kind and welcoming. Miguel always went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable, it felt like I was staying with family. This place really feels like a community. Popayan itself is a very chill city. It has wonderful food, the best menu del dia I’ve had while traveling, as well as cute cafes with great coffee and excellent ice-cream shops! I really enjoyed the walking tours and learning about Popayan and the history and culture here. I recommend this place to volunteer and to explore Popayan! I would love to come back some day :)

We had the opportunity to welcome Andy into our home. From the moment I saw him at the bus station, I knew he would be a great volunteer, and I wasn't wrong. He's truly a very dedicated young man, a lover of reading and exercise. A very hard worker, he put a lot of effort into the garden and the carpentry. Thank you so much, Andy. May God bless your journey.

I had a really lovely experience staying with them for two weeks of house and pet sitting. Even though I only saw them at the beginning and the end, they were very kind, explained everything clearly, and made me feel comfortable and safe in their home. The house is beautiful, with an amazing view and great walking opportunities nearby. The dog is wonderful — very sweet, energetic, and always happy to go outside. The cat is also very affectionate and gentle, and I truly enjoyed spending time with both of them. Overall, it was a great experience and I’m very grateful for the opportunity. I would definitely recommend staying here!

Monsieur Safa. At your age, to be thinking and planning projects that will include people who will be offering tour guides, will run a bakery place, and will manage a chicken farm… All I can say is that I hope I will have the same enthusiasm when I reach your age… if I reach your age. Future volunteers, if you are interested in history, archeology, religion and rock formations, and you speak Russian or French, look no further. Thank you Safa.

Elisa is an incredible human being who brings sunshine and light with her. She never stops smiling and is one of the kindest human beings you'll ever meet. Everything we asked of Elisa, she did and nothing was ever too much trouble for her. Despite having limited experience with dogs she was happy to get involved and in particular was incredibly kind and patient with Mickey. We would have absolute no hesitation in recommending Elisa and hope she'll come back for a visit soon 🙏

Having Graziano here with us was a pleasure. Always in a good mood, he brought into the house those positive vibes that I really value, and he blended perfectly into the everyday rhythm of our life. He is a great conversation partner and, above all, a very good listener — a rare quality nowadays. Highly recommended to all future hosts

We wound up booking with Michael when a workaway we had booked previously didn't work out due to poor communication. This was a perfect example of trusting the process. Staying at Michaels was great. Sure it's not for everyone, you have to be self motivating, sufficiant, communicative and no matter what you are doing put some love and care in it. In return you get flexibility, appriciation and a chill relaxed enviroment. I have a feeling this will not be the last time we meet. Highly recommend.

From the moment they arrived at our farmhouse, in rural Northern Germany, they brought warmth, curiosity, and positive energy into our home. For it being their first Workaway experience, we were deeply impressed by how open-minded, hardworking, and adaptable they were. They truly embraced life here — not just the renovation projects, but our family, our village, and the cultural exchange that makes this kind of experience so special. Over the six weeks Marayke and Will stayed with us, they helped tremendously with renovation work on our old farmhouse. Doing renovation work ourselves for almost thirty years now, we have rarely seen anybody approaching even the most complicated tasks with this degree of care, reliability, astonishing accuracy, and the willingness to deliver the best result possible. It was great to see how Marayke and Will tackled one construction challenge after the other. But what made their stay so meaningful went far beyond the work. Marayke and Will became part of our daily life. They shared their stories, their traditions, and their recipes. Our dinner table was filled with laughter, thoughtful conversations, and wonderful cultural exchange. They connected beautifully with our dog Willem and it was lovely to see that bond form so naturally. Hosting them reminded us exactly why we love this exchange — the friendships, the shared experiences, and the inspiration that comes from welcoming the world into your home. We are incredibly grateful for the time we spent together and already miss them dearly. Any host would be lucky to welcome Marayke and Will — we recommend them wholeheartedly and without hesitation.

Anton was really a 'gift from heaven'. At the moment that he came, we just started with quite a big project, to renovate the entire palm roof of the Tambo. Specialized workers came to do that, but the 'old' palm was everywhere, and Anton was there to collect, move and pile up all the old palm. Apart from that, he helped my daughter with her English classes, which she very much like, because Anton is calm, very kind and patient. All three of us (my kids and me) we very much enjoyed the company of Anton during his two weeks stay at our place. We highly recommend him.

Jacob… SO MUCH LOVE right back at you From all of us here, thank you for your beautiful words. Having you with us for almost two months was truly a gift. You were an amazing guy with such a beautiful soul. From the first day, you brought so much positive energy, enthusiasm, and kindness into our school. You were always active, always ready to help, and genuinely excited to teach. That passion made a real difference in the classroom. The students absolutely loved you and so did the team. You created such great vibes between the volunteers and the students. Your presence made everything lighter, happier, and more connected. You didn’t just teach lessons… you built relationships. We are so grateful for the effort you put into every class. You understood that teaching here is not just conversation it’s real instruction, real impact and you gave it your best every time. Thank you for your respect, your honesty in our meetings, and for being part of our little family. This place will always be your home in Casablanca. Shukran bzaaf, Jacob 🤍 We can’t wait to welcome you back anytime.

Although the weather was totally bad when I was there, I had the best time with Lucy and Dave. I was totally warmly welcomed and felt very comfortable. Of course, the dogs were especially great (of course, especially the Workaway dog Mickey). I was very happy to help where I could, for example feeding dogs, getting wood, being the personal Taxi-driver and much more. I will be very happy to come back!

I joined Elvis and his parents' place for two weeks and was thrilled to have the opportunity to get to know this wonderful little family farm and its inhabitants. I can highly recommend it to anyone who loves nature, country life, and plants. The work to be done was very pleasant and very fair in relation to the offered benefits. I mainly mowed the lawn, which grows very quickly at this time of year in the summer in February, trimmed very tall grass with a Stihl brushcutter, and helped wash used wine bottles that are recycled for homemade wine. Many thanks to Elvis and family!

Literally, it was a paradise for us!! We stayed with her for 16 days in total. Mostly at the house in Sixilla, painting and cooking and rest of the time we had a relaxing time to enjoying a natural pool, the house itself and the beautiful almost magical area. Cintia, she is an exceptionally kind and generous person. Relaxed and easy going. We love her very much. We would highly recommend a stay here for a very rewarding local experience. Would rate 10 stars if we could!!!

What makes Alicia and Jorge's place and the La Petrera area so extraordinary? It's that wonderful feeling of being exactly where you're meant to be, of feeling at ease from the very beginning! Nestled in nature – just minutes from the beach – Alicia and Jorge have created a haven filled with quirky art and an organic garden, which they share with their guests. Here, you can feel their genuine hospitality, the joy of shared conversations and meals, their curiosity, and their willingness to share. I was given a lovely room upstairs and enjoyed the sound of the sea and the amazing views of nature. Alicia and Jorge are excellent cooks, and the meals are delicious – plentiful, traditional, and featuring many ingredients from their own garden. My project was to add two garden gates to the property. Using a few old wooden-and metal doors, a bed, and a variety of small metal parts from their "junkyard," I was able to bring my design to life. Thank you for giving me this freedom. I hope they blend in with the overall picture and bring joy for many years to come. Yes, and finally I must greet the two dogs, Petra and Dobby. They were my daily companions to the beach and around La Petrera and I had a lot of joy with them. Thank you and nice greetings Thomas
