WOW! What an experience this was!! Robbie & Sarah were so gracious to allow me to come sooner than we originally had planned and to stay longer as well. My stay ended up being seven weeks. Every morning I would hear the house awaken upstairs with bodies hustling about quickly getting ready for the day. Some mornings I would cooking up some apple, cinnamon pancakes for the kids or maybe an egg muffin sandwich. ( Breakfast is not something you are required to do, I just enjoy cooking for others) Morning and afternoon walks around the fields out back or down to the creek were always nice with their 2 yr old yellow lab, Corey. Wellies are a must in the wet weather! I bought a used pair on FB marketplace for cheap. While everyone was gone during the day I would hang and/or fold laundry if needed, clean up the morning kitchen, sweep /vacuum the main floor and enjoyed finding a cupboard or drawer to organize. At the beginning of the week, either Sarah or Robbie and I would make up a menu plan for the week together. They would do the shopping accordingly and were always gracious to ask if there’s anything I would like. I love to cook so I cooked during the weeknights which is a big help to have supper ready when everyone arrives home from school or work. Supper typically was served at 6 PM Robbie cooked up some delicious meals on the weekend like his yummy stew. 😋 I often enjoyed a walk into Frome to look around, meander thru shops, have a coffee or tea while either people watching or starting a conversation with someone sitting nearby and getting to know a little bit about them. There are plenty of secondhand/thrift shops, coffee/ bakery shops, healthfood, grocery , a theater and plenty of restaurants all within a 20 min walk. I always found the people in Frome friendly and approachable. I even made friends with an older couple in their cul-de-sac. The Architecture was something I really enjoyed seeing. A walk to town and down cobblestone Catherine Hill was always my favorite. Frome station is about a 40 minute walk but Robbie and Sarah were always kind enough to give me a lift when I decided to venture off to Bath or Bristol for the day. Since I arrived at their home on December 2, I was there during the holiday. What a great collection of memories it was! Sarah’s brother and family came from London for the week. Putting together a big puzzle, playing games, lots of good food and plenty of laughter truly made it a memorable time I will always cherish. I have sooo many pictures! I enjoyed my time with Edith and Ewan as well teaching them a new card game, making paper, snowflakes to hang, kicking the soccer ball ⚽️ or being Edith’s New card trick demo buddy. She’s getting good! 😊 One night while their parents went out I enjoyed making homemade pizza which the kids loved! Afterwards we had just a scoop of ice cream and then making homemade buttered popcorn all while watching the sound of music. It was a lot, but it was fun and the kids had never seen the movie before, and it turned out to be a good experience for them. My bedroom downstairs had plenty of space with a bedside table, comfortable chair , desk/dresser and a window looking out to the front of the house. My bathroom just outside of my bedroom was complete with shower, toilet and sink. Sarah gave me a heater so I kept plenty warm. I was treated very well at the home and will forever cherish my time. I would definitely recommend a stay here as you will likely go away with lasting memories. Thank you Robbie, Sarah, Edith & Ewan for inviting me into your home. 🤗

I stayed with Anne for two months in the autumn and truly loved every minute of my time there. Even now, more than a month and a half after being back in Italy, I still miss that experience. The work was a real pleasure, spending time with the dogs, making sure they were fed, happy and well cared for never felt like a chore. They were such good company. The area is beautiful, perfect for the dogs and for long, varied walks surrounded by nature. Anne is a wonderful, warm and genuinely kind person. She’s very friendly, easy to get along with, and it didn’t take long before we became good friends. I felt welcome from the very beginning and at home throughout my stay. I’m very grateful for this experience and would absolutely recommend Anne as a Workaway host to anyone looking for a positive, meaningful and caring place to stay.

I truly had the best time at Samatha and Bill’s place!! They were incredibly welcoming and always there if I had any questions. While I was house-sitting, their friends and family were also around and were very supportive and helpful, which made the experience even better. I loved spending time with Biscuit and had lots of opportunities to explore the area. I’ll definitely miss her a lot:)

Nina, Tim, and Miles were a pleasure to have. Nina - who is an interior designer - helped us design the outside garden area of our new home. She also beautifully photographed my recent ceramics. Tim made huge strides in the garden and then built us a very cool stone and wood bench. Miles is quiet and full of joy. He follows Nina everywhere. They were wonderful company and we'd welcome them back anytime they'd like to be here!

I couldn’t have asked for a better first Workaway experience! I stayed with Shannon for two months and felt welcomed from the very beginning. Life off-grid, surrounded by nature and wonderful animals (dogs, chickens, ducks, and horses), was truly special. Game nights, great food, and lots of laughter made it even better. I wouldn’t have wanted to miss this experience for anything — thank you, Shannon!!

Audrey and Leo are an amazing couple of workawayers. Quiet and gentle and oh so kind. Caring and compassionate, amazing in the kitchen and in the workshop too. If you choose to host them, you get the full meal deal. They are tidy and clean and very careful. The only bad thing about hosting them, is that it will break your heart to say goodbye. All the best in your southward adventure! Henry and your farmily.

Kate is a capable cabinet maker. She is highly autonomous - she required nothing more than a general idea of what was wanted and from there she made her way around our tool shop and wood pile with confidence. She made a collection of beautiful wood pieces to help our guests put their clothes away!

I spent 3 months here, and I can tell you, I felt incredibly good. You will be very well accommodated, either in a guest room or in a repurposed shipping container turned into a private Workaway room with a bathroom, a large window, a view of the forest, and just a 15 second walk from a stunning view of the valley and mountains, and most importantly, a great discreet spot to watch the monkeys every day. You will be incredibly well fed, and from the hotel terrace or the pool, you will have an amazing view of the mountains and the opportunity to do various activities. But the most important thing is that you will meet people you will never forget. For me, the most important part of a Workaway is the human aspect that’s what matters most. Shelley and Stewart, the owners, are incredibly kind and will do everything to make you feel welcome. Communication from the first contact to my arrival was perfect, especially when taking the risk of traveling over 10,000 km with no plan B. Shown, who was my work supervisor and the manager of the gardening/maintenance/room service teams, was amazing and kind. It was very enjoyable working with him, and he will help you with anything you need. I did general maintenance work of all kinds and had two major projects: sanding and varnishing all the hotel benches as well as the exterior doors of the guest rooms. Don’t worry the well being of guests always comes first. A big thank you to you, Shown, for your kindness and to all your team. I also worked with Leroy, the manager of the kitchen and restaurant/bar teams, helping him clean the restaurant chairs and the garden he loves for cooking. Leroy will enjoy teaching you lots of African expressions. If you’re French like me, talk to him about rugby he loves it. Tell him we’re the best ;-) Thank you, Leroy, and thanks to all your team, and thank you for taking care of me the day I had that awful migraine. I also had the opportunity to work for a week with James, Shelley’s son. I learned how to renovate a beautiful house door made from noble wood a project that took several days. He will take all the time needed to explain exactly what to do. You will learn a lot from him, and you will be proud of the work you accomplish. Thank you, James. The reception/office team is equally lovely and will help with any question with a big smile. Thank you, Antoinette, for that Sunday together at the barbecue. Thanks to all the kitchen staff who prepare your meals every day you will really enjoy them. It was a dream come true every day for me, because I love eating but not cooking. Of course, I can’t mention everyone because the team is huge and that’s exactly what made it amazing, because ABSOLUTELY everyone, every team, each individual person made me feel welcome and integrated me incredibly well. But I have to mention one person in particular: you, Thami (the bartender). THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for your friendship. As you can tell, I will never forget it.

My two weeks staying with William and Jovia were absolutely amazing. On the weekdays, I spent the days volunteering here. I taught English and nutrition lessons and taught the kids how to make bracelets. Everyone in the community was so welcoming and kind. William was able to organize two safaris for myself at Queen Elizabeth and Bwindi. I would have liked to bring some of the kids who dorm at the school with me, but the timing didn’t work out. That could be something fun for next time or for another volunteer to plan! Leaving the community was sooo hard, but that’s also how I knew this experience was so special. I would highly recommend visiting William and this amazing community to anyone. Thank you William and Jovia for everything!

If you're looking for an experience where you truly get a glimpse into the life of a Canadian family, then this is the perfect place. I stayed with the family almost a month and I just loved ist. The family was welcoming me with a open heart and I felt right at home. The family always invited me to spend their free time with them. I met many of the family's friends and was able to celebrate two children's birthday parties with them. We took a boat trip, went to the Christmas market together, and I was also invited when the fire department drove around the island, in decorated fire trucks to collect donations for Christmas. I also loved playing games with the children, watching Christmas movies, and decorating the Christmas tree with them. It was exactly the experience I was looking for. I was truly able to immerse myself in the life of a Canadian family. I liked it that the work was varied. It included everything from gardening, caring for animals, building a sauna, helping with household chores, and even babysitting. There was another volunteer there as well, which always made the work more fun. On my days off, I was allowed to borrow a bicycle and cycle around the island to explore the island on my own. I was also allowed to take the dogs for a run. I thoroughly enjoyed my time on Gabriola Island and would like to sincerely thank the family again for the wonderful memories I was able to create.

I stayed with Kim, Peter, and Cristina for a month, and it was a wonderful experience. They are kind, generous, and attentive people, and I truly felt welcomed into their home. Working with Kim was an absolute pleasure. She wears her heart on her sleeve, and I learned so much from her. The animals are incredibly well cared for. I had such a great time petting, brushing and spending time with the donkeys and horses, riding, lunging, and walking the dogs. Pete is always happy to share stories and jokes, try out his tricks with you, and show you his building skills. The surroundings are breathtaking, with mesmerizing sunrises every morning. I am very grateful for this experience and for the opportunities you gave me. Thank you for everything, and I hope to see you soon!

I’ve only been away for one day and I already miss Katharina and Naila so much. I truly loved my time with them in Nerja. Whether we were sitting together cozily, talking, drinking tea, or going on little adventures and doing DIY projects – it never felt boring for a single moment. Especially thanks to Katharina’s daughter Naila, who constantly put a smile on my face. I will also always remember the van on the property where I got to sleep 🙂 Thank you both from the bottom of my heart for the wonderful time we shared. With you, the “work” never felt like work at all, but much more like living together, and that is something I truly appreciate. Hopefully our paths will cross again one day – I would love that very much. Until then, I wish you all the best and hope that all your plans and dreams for the house will come true❣️❣️

This was my first Workaway, and I honestly couldn’t have imagined how special it was going to be. The sanctuaries are full of the loveliest, most grateful cats you could ever meet. Every stroke and playful moment is so clearly appreciated by these cats, who truly deserve loving homes. Gillian does the best she can to give them a good life, and the sanctuary relies heavily on dedicated volunteers. The work can be tough at times, especially when cats arrive needing full round the clock, medical care, but it’s incredibly rewarding. The day is split into a three-hour morning shift and a two-hour evening shift. The beach is only 15 minutes away, and Dahab is such a chilled, magical place to recharge in your time off. There’s plenty to do too, especially if you enjoy snorkelling, diving, or hiking. The sanctuary needs people who are willing to fully immerse themselves and be genuinely committed to working hard, and I think if you come with that attitude, you’ll get so much back. It was a wonderful experience, one I’ll never forget, and I made so many good connections with my fellow volunteers and Mahmoud, who were all amazing . If you are thinking of coming here, just do it, you will be in cat heaven! I learnt a lot, gave a lot, and came home with a lot of incredible memories. Thank you, Gillian, for accepting me for this opportunity and for helping so many cats, I miss them so much already.

Normally, I wouldn’t host a Workawayer anymore in October. However, there was still a job to be done in the garden, mainly leveling parts of it. Ileana did this perfectly. All the excess sand was neatly gathered into a mound (and later collected). She tidied up my garden, created pathways, decorated the garden and was not afraid of physical work. She is very enthusiastic and full of ideas and initiative. On top of that, she is also a great cook.

I spent two lovely weeks with Géneieve and Luc. They were incredibly welcoming from day one, and they really made me feel at home. The work was rewarding and their hospitality was heartwarming. Although I spoke only a bit of French, they were patient and took the time to explain things, in English when possible. Géneieve even set out time in the afternoons so that she could teach me. Also I really enjoyed the movie nights organised by Luc, from his extensive collection of great films.

Haley is one of the most genuinely kind-hearted, generous and positive people I have met! You can tell that she absolutely adores all the animals and wants to give them the best life possible. The tasks were very flexible and chill - as long as you're not scared of getting some dirt under your nails! The communication was always very clear and she shows appreciation for the work that you put in. She also always invited us to join her for whatever activity she was doing (game night, dinner with friends, beach day...) which allowed us to connect with the community and discover the area. I had an amazing time and I'd love to come back asap!

My husband, my dog, and I were welcomed for about three weeks by Ximena, a lovely person who respects her guests. She introduced us to some regional culinary specialties like api (a type of bean), and we worked in her orchard, full of fruit trees, in the mornings. We mainly did pruning and offered to protect the trees with lime. During our stay, we bonded more closely, and we learned about her family history, the history of the cultural center, and we were even invited to a film screening in Sucre, where we drove with her. Ximena is a pleasant and touching person. I highly recommend this stay in a peaceful part of Bolivia, where we were able to experience the charango festival and the Christmas festivities. It's a less touristy part of Bolivia, but authentic without being rural. It's quite well located for exploring the area, but you should allow 3 hours to reach tourist attractions. The roads in Bolivia held some surprises for us, as we experienced national road closures and a lot of uncertainty. Despite this, Bolivia is a fabulous country where we made friends, including Ximena. Her house is perfectly comfortable and well-equipped.

I had the pleasure to host Marion during almost a month and enjoyed her enthusiasm for Puerto Rico and the farm work. She is an independent, strong woman who does not shy away from hard work. She prepared planting beds, deweeded, mulched, harvested and planted, helped around the house and got along with everybody. I can recommend her to future hosts and she's always welcome to return.

A bit of late-ish feedback! I worked for 2 weeks here and although challenging at times, I look back at the experience with extreme fondness! Everyone was totally unique and very quickly the team felt like a family. The activities were fun for the kids and volunteers alike, and I felt very welcomed immediately. There is a lot of creativity and I felt everyone was listened to. The location is beautiful and at times I felt totally at peace. Ed especially was a great host, very kind, accommodating, and caring. I am very thankful for my experience at this camp, and would recommend highly. Thanks for everything Ed!
