    Description

We have a requirement for people during 2026, who are passionate about cats and would like to help us run our shelters in Dahab

We rescue sick, injured and vulnerable cats and kittens, get them healthy, neutered and vaccinated and then repatriate those that can survive on the streets. For those who can't, we keep at the shelter or have adopted.

The aim of our small non-profit is to have a healthy and well cared-for population of cats and look after those that can't look after themselves. We find adopters, medicate and treat the cats, take in abandoned kittens, neuter and spay, prepare cats for travel, offer hotel facilities when owners are travelling and give help and advice to the community.

We have 2 simple home based sanctuaries and currently care for around 90 cats and kittens. Our work is entirely funded by donations and every penny raised goes to help the hundreds of cats here. We keep our overheads low by recycling, upcycling and using inexpensive options and volunteers. We face a lot of challenges and the work can be both upsetting and rewarding.

We would like to welcome volunteers who are available to stay between 2 and 6 weeks. We provide good accommodation, utilities and wifi but not food. We ask for 25 hours per week and encourage everyone to enjoy Dahab in their spare time. There's so much to discover here. We need self motivated and managed volunteers who care deeply about cats and can give them plenty of love.

We would love vets and trainee vets to come and work with us and would consider shorter periods of time for their volunteering.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Dahab is a vibrant multi cultural town where Bedouins, ex-pats, Egyptians, dogs, cats and goats live side by side. There is a diversity of religions, predominantly Muslim.

You can learn new languages and skills, get to know the locals and explore a very different kind of world.

You can learn to meditate and attend yoga classes overlooking the sea, learn about the coral, fish and creatures in the Red Sea. There are many groups that you can join to develop skills and gain experiences, wadi walking, climbing and star watching. Beach clean ups are a regular feature

There are lots of opportunities to also get involved in eco projects and language exchange.

We are completely reliant upon donations and we run fundraising events online and within Dahab. You may be required to come up with fresh ideas, help run and manage events and post on social media to encourage donations. Marketing or media experience would be great but not essential

We have resident cats in the cat house and you will be required to look after the cats, cuddle, feed and medicate etc

We often have aftercare, injured and sick cats in our hospital room and you would be required to assist with their treatment and recovery. You do not need to have experience in this but a willingness to learn is essential

We adopt and Foster cats out within the community, Egypt and abroad. You may be required to assist in this process and post on social media about the cats we have for adoption.

Keeping the cat house clean and tidy is a requirement as is cleaning the areas used by the cats.

Liaising with the community is vital to our work so good communication skills are essential

You will be working and living with other volunteers in a 3 bedroomed bedouin house. You should be used to sharing a home and have good team working skills. You may have to share a bedroom. Please note the house might be mixed, both male and female.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have a one level bedouin house with an enclosed garden. It has a well equipped kitchen with cooker, washing machine, microwave, freezer, fridge etc. A good size sitting room. A shared bathroom with shower, 2 twin rooms and one single. AC is in both larger rooms

There is plenty of cooking equipment and buying food and preparing meals is easy. But meals out are not expensive and there is plenty of take away and delivery options

The house is in a bedouin area, with goats roaming the streets, very close to shops and just 15 minutes walk to the sea. Taxis are very cheap, but we provide bikes and everything in Dahab is within walking distance

The town is bohemian and rustic. Its a holiday destination predominantly for city based Egyptians and foreign tourists who come to dive. It can be busy and vibrant but there are always quiet places to be found.

You are responsible here for your own wellbeing and safety. We do not have insurance. You should follow your governments advice during these difficult times and have your own insurance.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Diving, snorkeling, wadi and desert walking, climbing, swimming and exploring are some of the activities in the town and windsurfing, kite boarding, canoeing are very popular due the winds that are generally blowing.

This is the home of the famous Blue Hole, wonderful coral and many different fish

For foodies there is a huge variety from all different countries and suiting all different tastes. Vegetarian and vegan choices are readily available and an abundance of fresh fruit, vegetables and fish come regularly from Suez

A huge choice of Yoga classes, meditation and spiritual activities are available every day, trips into the desert, sleeping under the stars, quad biking and horse riding.

Plus of course you can swim, sunbathe and relax in sea side restaurants and cafes or take a trip on a boat and snorkel or dive in different areas with an on board lunch

Sharm El Sheikh, St Catherines, Nuweiba and Cairo are a bus drive away and by air from Sharm Cairo is only 1 hour.
