    Description

We have an immediate need for all volunteers to help with our cats and kittens. It's kitten season and we are inundated as always.

Do you have veterinary nursing or medical experience to help run our clinic, currently full of kittens? We have an immediate need for you too.

    Volunteer with us – 2026/27
Are you passionate about cats and ready to make a real difference?
We rescue sick, injured, and vulnerable cats and kittens in Dahab, Egypt. Every day brings new challenges — from emergency rescues to intensive care — but also incredible rewards as we watch cats recover, trust again, and find their futures.

You will see the direct impact of your help every single day

We are a small, independent, donation-funded rescue. This means every volunteer plays a genuinely important role in the running of our shelters. We are looking for resilient, practical volunteers ready to make a difference.

    What We Do
*Rescue and treat sick, injured, and abandoned cats
*Provide medical care, vaccinations, and neutering
*Rehabilitate and repatriate cats who can survive on the streets
*Offer lifelong sanctuary to those who cannot
*Support the local community with advice and care
*Prepare cats for international adoption and travel
We currently care for around 90+ cats and kittens across two simple, home-based shelters.
This Is Not a “Light” Experience
This work can be physically demanding and emotionally intense.
You may see illness, injury, and difficult situations — but you will also be part of saving lives every single day.

We are looking for people who:
    *Are resilient and emotionally strong
*Can work independently without constant supervision
*Have a genuine love for cats (not just liking animals)
    *Are proactive, reliable, and practical
*Are comfortable with cleaning, routine care, and hands-on work
*Experience in animal care, shelters, veterinary work, or rescue environments is highly valued.

    Your Role
    Volunteers help with:
*Feeding, cleaning, and maintaining the shelters
*Socialising and caring for cats and kittens
*Basic medical support (guided where needed)
    *Monitoring health and reporting concerns
*Supporting adoptions and social media (if skilled)

    What We Offer
    *Shared accommodation
    *Wi-Fi and utilities
*A unique opportunity to live and work in beautiful Dahab
*You’ll work approximately 25 hours per week, leaving plenty of time to explore the sea, desert, and local culture.

    Commitment
    *Minimum stay: 2 weeks
    *Preferred stay: 3+ weeks
*Vets, vet assistants and trainee vets are especially welcome (shorter stays considered) as are those with building and carpentry skills and shelter experience

    Why Join Us?
Because this is not just volunteering —
it’s being part of something that truly matters.
You will leave knowing you made a real, visible difference in the lives of animals who had no one else.

If you are committed, capable, and ready to get involved, we would love to hear from you.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Dahab is a vibrant multi cultural town where Bedouins, ex-pats, Egyptians, dogs, cats and goats live side by side. There is a diversity of religions, predominantly Muslim.

You can learn new languages and skills, get to know the locals and explore a very different kind of world.

You can learn to meditate and attend yoga classes overlooking the sea, learn about the coral, fish and creatures in the Red Sea. There are many groups that you can join to develop skills and gain experiences, wadi walking, climbing and star watching. Beach clean ups are a regular feature

There are lots of opportunities to also get involved in eco projects and language exchange.

  • Help

    Help

We are completely reliant on donations to continue our work. Alongside daily animal care, volunteers play an important role in helping us sustain the shelter through fundraising, creativity, and community engagement.

    You may be involved in:
*Supporting and developing fundraising ideas and events (both online and within Dahab)
*Creating and posting content on social media to encourage donations and engagement
*Assisting with campaigns and donor communication
*Experience in marketing, media, or fundraising is highly valued — but a proactive attitude and willingness to contribute ideas is just as important.

    Cat Care & Welfare
Our shelters are home to many resident cats who rely on us daily. You will be directly involved in their care, including:
    *Feeding, watering, and cleaning

*Socialising, comforting, and building trust with the cats
This is hands-on work and requires patience, consistency, and genuine care.

    You may assist with:
    *Supporting treatment and recovery routines
    *Monitoring behaviour and health
*Maintaining clean and safe recovery spaces
*You do not need prior medical experience — however, a strong willingness to learn and follow guidance carefully is essential.

    *Helping prepare cats for adoption

*Clean litter trays, feeding areas, and shared spaces

    Community Interaction
Our work relies heavily on strong relationships within the local community.
    Volunteers should:
    *Communicate respectfully and clearly
*Assist with enquiries and basic guidance
*Provide feeding stations and medical care for street cats
*Represent in a positive and responsible way
